About this ebook
I saw faces that just stare. Scenes of this life were captured in everything. I could hear the voices. They whispered to me.
A man walked with answers, and he tried to give it away. But no one could carry it, and he died.

The lake was at the bottom of a hill, the hill at the bottom of a bigger hill. Finally, a mountain. All the waters were fed by the snow caps and occasional rain.
Trees as old as the Earth—pine, cedar, oak. The air was full of pollen. The breeze blew gently that day as we walked down the trail across the open places.
Many times we planted trees, and some had grown tall. We were like brothers, and this place was our home from youth. Though our parents weren’t the same, we even looked alike and had deep emotional ties.
When we were younger, we mixed our blood and swore an oath to be by the others’ side unto death. That unreal, childlike view kept on surfacin’, though times called to be more mature.
The lake was a mile across, and it was always too cold to swim. Always did anyway. We stayed up here a lot because the towns had become too difficult to navigate, and keep it together.
I knew there were people buried up here, at the bottom of the lake. Some never came off the mountain. The papers gave credit to wild bears or cats—which had some truth, I did believe Many a time had a run in with the like. Don’t know what happened to everyone. Used to go around the neighborhood mown grass, always finding people in a good mood, plantin’ flowers and gossipin’ with their neighbors. Then one day it just changed—no one smiled any. No one seemed happy.
My friend was called Ace, he was a wiry little shit. Stocky, full of fire. Never told him he could not, he did whatever it was at that moment just to spite, just to show he could. That spirit was the reason he was who he is. Many times we walked ten miles just to be together—just sit and talk all night, smoked a lot of dope, shared a lot of dreams.
Many years have passed since then and now. Now, things are different. Smoked dope to ease the pain, not to dream. Still have dreams, just different ones.
The lake was like no other place on Earth. There were rocks and boulders all over the place. Someone had took to sculptin’ them, because they all told stories, they had faces, seemed to communicate, and now would be forever history hidden in this spot.
Locals had the information about it, but still even though amazing to behold, no one came to see, no one came to behold. No one came to discover. I thanked the Heavens many times for that.
So we walked.
There was a cabin hidden so well, no one could find it, but us. We would soon be there.
Past the familiar land marks, a hollow tree, a certain rock. The most amazing was a limestone pool at the bottom of a waterfall. There was a cave behind it; it wasn’t deep, but a cave behind a waterfall nonetheless.
This place held magic, you could feel the aura dance to its own pace. If you tuned in, you would never be the same.
Hey Ace! Slow down, bro, I’m having trouble keeping up. You said we would take a break before the tree. That was two miles back.
"I’m not in a hurry, just got lost in my mind.
