Most people get excited when it comes to school field trips. But when they actually go to the field trip, it isn’t as fun as expected. Especially if you are split up into groups and end up with the most cruel bully of the planet. As of today’s field trip, I’m in a group of four with my best friend Mason, a friendly nerd named Larry, and as you guessed, the school bully, Gerall. Gerall has bullied me ever since my first year at Sir Franks N. Benes Academy. He has been threatening to kill me, throwing rocks at me, and stealing my schoolbooks and never bringing them back, and he once even tried to push me off a balcony on a school trip to Germany. This time, there is no balcony. We are at a beach right on the Pacific Coast near Long Beach. I don’t know how to swim, which makes it much worse. If he pushes me into the water, I will probably drown.

I am Bruce Finnegan. My mother has been missing for a while, which is kinda sad. I am a wimpy loser who is so short that I can be used as an armrest for tall guys. My eyes are ocean blue, and my hair is black. Completely black. A hundred percent black.

Mason is my best friend. He tries to defend me from Gerall. (He isn’t as good.) He helps me whenever I need help on homework, cleaning my locker, etc. However, the teachers hate us the most, and they will usually catch us doing things we aren’t supposed to do. Even when another teacher tells us to do it, we still get in trouble no matter what excuse we make.

Larry is what I consider the smartest kid in the school. He has been studying this book he found in Croatia, an ancient mythology about a man who controls the seas and can access minds, and I think he’s the only one in the school who knows about it. He said that most people just weren’t interested in it. He is also one of the best people at swimming and always is either first or second in math competitions. He doesn’t usually stick around with me at school, so he doesn’t get in trouble as much as me and Mason. But the best part of him is that he can defend anyone from Gerall by saying very good comebacks. He
