INTRODUCTION
My name is Thomas and I am one of hundreds of demon hunters in the world. It is 2639 and there are vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, warlocks, gypsies, and trolls everywhere.
The hunter gene is passed on from hunter to first born. It comes with superhuman abilities such as strength, speed, durability, sight, hearing, and flexibility. Hunters also have nine lives, I’m on seven. The first life I lost wrecking my hover car. My parachute didn’t open, I hit the ground hard. That one really hurt, but not as much as the second. I woke up on fire one night. The pain was unbearable; the smell, horrendous. I tried to make it to the shower, but didn’t make it in time. We all died that night, we learned later that it was a witch’s revenge for killing her mate. We also had to move after that because the house was too badly burnt.
I ran in a pack because it is safer to hunt in groups, I am the leader. The members of my pack are my best friends; they mean the world to me. Elizabeth (Lizzy) was the smartest person I’ve ever meet. She was short with long brown hair, blue eyes, a small nose, and full lips. Henry was great at strategy, as strong as an ox, and as big as a refrigerator. He had short red hair, green eyes, big ears, and is ususally whistling.
William (Will) was tall and muscular; he moved like a ninja and hardly ever got hurt. He had black hair, brown eyes, and a long skinny nose. Katherine (Katie) was an amazing mechanic and engineer. She had long blond hair, green eyes, full lips, and a long nose with a bump in it.
She walked with a limp. Josh was my second in command, he had brilliant ideas and could out run all of us. He had sandy blond hair, blue eyes, and a short skinny nose. Jack was our dog, he was a spirit animal, he didn’t die until the rest of us were dead. He was a black timber wolf who loved action and adventure.
CHAPTER 1
We slowly and cautiously approached the abandoned building. The target was a den of vampires. We surrounded the building, weapons drawn. The only way to kill pure bred vampires is to cut off their heads and burn their bodies. We caught them off guard when we burst through the door. There were at least a dozen of them, but it was barely a fight, they seemed weak. I did get a gash on my face, Josh had a dislocated shoulder, and Elizabeth had a bite on her neck. Will, Katie, and Henry triumphed without a scratch. We made sure we got them all, and burned down the house, bodies and all. Then we made it back to our van and went home to tend to our wounds.
The next morning we had one of our famous breakfast meetings.
Katherine and Elizabeth did a great job on their recon mission. They found a family who is being haunted by a demonic spirit,
I informed them all.
Josh asked, So what’s the plan, boss?
We need bundles of sage, salt, and our bible. We leave at night fall, the family is gone, but I have a key to get in.
We pulled up to the house, it looked still and quiet. We gathered our weapons and went inside. The house started to shake. Each of us had a bundle of sage that we all lit and started to go around to all the corners of the house. Books, fine china, awards, pictures, and anything that wasn’t nailed down started to fly around the house. William was knocked out by the flying television and went down hard. Katherine ran to him and made sure he was alright, he wasn’t bleeding so we left him there, took our sage, and slowly worked our way upstairs. The stairs started to crack and fall apart as we went up them. When we got upstairs, beds, dressers, desks, and chairs were floating in mid air. We split up and each took a room, I took the master bedroom and bathroom. When I walked into the room the bed flew at me, I ducked, and it hit the wall and smashed. I stood back up and finished what I was doing. On my way out of the room, the mirror shattered and shards of glass went everywhere; one nearly sliced my neck open, but I threw my arms up in front of my face. The furniture suddenly fell as I re-entered the hallway. The others were done and waiting for me by the attic door. We went up to the attic; it was full of hope chests. Lizzy almost fell through the floor. The roof split wide open. When we finished, we rushed down the broken stairs. William was gone, just vanished. The next step was to use the salt. We spread the salt along every window seal and every base board. The house started to violently shake, throwing us around like rag dolls. We quickly moved upstairs to the bedrooms then the attic. We were almost done when the roof flew off and the wind stirred the salt around. We fixed it and hurried up and went back down the broken stairs. I grabbed the Bible and began to read Mattew:6 verses 4-13, the Lord’s Prayer.
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
As I read things really got crazy, cabinets, doors, and windows, started opening and slamming shut. Dishes, knick knacks, and lamps started to fly and shatter against walls.
The televisions, stereo, and lights began to turn on and off. The house began to collapse in on us, and I was bit and scratched by something unseen. When I finished, everything suddenly stopped, and the vibe in the house became light and friendly. Will came stumbling out of the kitchen with a piece of cheese. Our mission was successful, we went to the bar to celebrate.
While we were at the bar, I smelled zombie flesh. Zombies look like normal people, but they smell like rotting flesh, only hunters can smell it. I looked around and found two of them.
They were hitting on two drunk girls, who seemed really into them. A little while later, they all left out the back way, which led to the alley. I took Josh and we followed them outside.
Just as the zombies were about to take a bite out of those girls, Josh and I knocked them outs with bricks to the head. The only way to kill a zombie is to drown them, so we drug their bodies to a local fountain and held their heads under until they stopped moving. Jack got rid of the bodies, and we went back inside.
The next day we did recon work. William and I took downtown, Josh and Elizabeth took the east and south sides, and Katherine and Henry took the west and north sides. We all met up
