I have been a speech therapist for special needs children for 35 years. I have worked in a preschool program and I am currently working in an elementary special needs program. My therapy focuses on language development, that includes, expanding the children's vocabulary and improving grammar and sentence structure. Many of my students are visual learners and benefit from pictures, photos, sign language and gestures to facilitate the understanding and use of language. I also work with non verbal children who use speech generating devices to communicate their wants and needs. It is a challenge to develop lessons that motivate them to communicate, but the rewards are immeasurable. The children I have worked with throughout the years have taught me as much as I have taught them and for that I will be ever grateful for.
