ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to acknowledge my niece, Sandie! She read my rough draft and gave me the confidence to bring my ideas in front of the world. I also want to acknowledge all my friends who inspired me in the book. I would also like to mention everyone who encouraged me on my Facebook page. All of you made it possible.
Where It All Began
I am an avid reader, and during sequestration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to contribute to the reading world with the help of experiences that I gained through volunteering at a rescue and my subsequent travel to China. This book is about what has brought me here. This is the first book of the series. I have already completed the sequel. I am on book three now.
This book is about my trip to China and bringing home the fur babies. I have added spicy drama and mystery to my book! I laughed a lot, adding the names of the people and the dogs in the mystery, as all of them are my family and friends.
This trip taught me that there are many animals all around the world that need to be rescued. All they need is our love and attention. I feel my book will appeal to every animal lover around the globe.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did while writing it.

SPOT: a smiling, playful, and loving bull terrier.
He has kind, brown eyes, a small black nose, and pointy
ears. He is my fur baby with a black ring around his left eye.
CHAPTER 1
HOME IS WHERE THE DOGS ARE
58515.jpgT HE FIRST SUNRAY shining through the dense green trees turned the silence of the night into a peaceful morning. The speck of sunlight sparkled on the window glass, lighting up the room.
Chirping bird sounds and welcoming coffee aroma was the perfect combination to wake me up. However, this time it was a cheerful woof that made my eyes fly open. I rubbed my eyes, stretched, and wondered what it was. I rolled over to the other side of the bed. A pair of adorable eyes popped out from under the bed.
Woof! Woof!
I saw a wide-open mouth with pulled-back lips and a tongue lapping over the teeth. It was Spot! A smile spread across my face. No doubt, happiness is a warm dog. Spot came into my life like a blessing eleven years ago, all thanks to my sister, Christina. She bred her Stella with a spud-eye bully, Mack, and then I was blessed with Spot. The bull terrier is a quirky breed, stubborn yet fun to be around.
I yawned as I got out of my bed. Tying my hair up, I wandered through the hallway behind the scent of coffee tickling my nose. Looking up at Spot’s photographs hanging on the walls as I walked took me back to my best memories. The photograph of Christina holding Spot in her arms with affection was one of my favorites.
I stepped into the kitchen and found the cup of freshly brewed coffee resting on the table. With creamer and Splenda, it was strong enough to start my morning on the right foot. Sandie had made it just the way I like it. She knew every way around my house. She had come to the United States from China ten years ago. She had worked with her husband, Ching Lau, at a rescue before coming to the United States. She’d left her husband and taken a job as a nanny for a well-to-do Chinese family. Her credentials made her the right fit as a housekeeper for my place—not just any housekeeper but the sweetest cook, who had the power to bring everyone together with her double-chocolate muffins, not to forget this morning’s coffee too. She’d become a treasured friend.
