Sandie Heckman has been writing devotionals for three years. Healing from a total knee and hip replacement brought many days of solitude, and a passion for Jesus Christ. Prayers and writing are one way she speaks to God. Over the past few years, these words have been shared with her pastors, family and friends and handed out in the streets to the homeless and human trafficking survivors who she devotes her spare time to helping. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she moved to Missouri ten years ago where she became a single mom working to help put her daughter through college. Her daughter now advocates for abused and neglected children. Everyone deserves to know Jesus, everyone deserves to feel a Touch of the Son.

PREFACE

IT’S NOT EASY to live a God driven life. Our world is filled with chaos and noise, and we sometimes become distracted, often missing the tiny love notes that God places on our paths. God. Is. So Good.

One morning, I sat on my porch and Jesus showed up in the sunrise of my life. He painted the most beautiful sunrise to catch my attention. My heart became full, as I found Him between the pinks and blues swirling around in the morning sky. How can a God so big, love so large, and make our heart so full that it seems to overflow? Believe in Him and He’ll show you this great love.

For we walk by faith [we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervor; thus, we walk] not by sight or appearance. II Corinthians 5:7

Day in and day out Jesus pursues our hearts. His love is timeless, and His plan for our lives is unimaginable. Asking Him into your heart is a gift only you can give yourself. This gift of having a relationship with Jesus goes on without end, as it comes with a ticket to heaven. Imagine, as we live our lives here on earth and form this everlasting bond, this loving relationship will continue when we reach His heavenly home.

I started writing short devotionals and prayers three years ago. Writing became an everyday love of mine, as I healed from a total knee replacement. Jesus will meet us at the edge of sunrise, where the sun rises at the edge of a new morning. I found Jesus three years ago on one of my darkest days of healing. A total knee replacement is one of the most painful surgeries, but as I healed Jesus filled a void of loneliness that I had been suffering from. As I lay in my bed in my tiny apartment, Jesus showed up in a heartfelt embrace as the beautiful sunrise streamed through my window. On one of the hardest healing days of my life, Jesus came and I safely tucked Him into my heart. His healing grace washed over me and our relationship began to grow. I grew in my faith as I read the word of God. I started writing the words of my heart, words of devotion to Jesus. Three years ago, I began a writing journey and I soon shared my words with family and friends. I began to realize that these words soothed their souls and gave them great peace. I wanted everyone to know how it felt to have Jesus in their lives.

I started attending a local church in my area. I noticed what a difficult job it can be for a pastor to minister to their congregation and continue to stay focused on their relationship with Jesus Christ. Life happens, and as I watched my pastor’s offer up words of encouragement and healing prayers, I truly felt Jesus put this desire on my heart to lift my pastors up with encouraging words.

Seven Days, Seven Texts to my pastors began as a week of texting my pastor’s uplifting words of encouragement. Even those who preach the gospel need tiny reminders of Jesus’ love. Everyone needs a gentle reminder, a touch of the Son. The more I texted my pastors, the better I felt. I became Sondrenched in blessing others with encouragement. When friends and other church members realized what I was doing, they too wanted to receive these daily texts of uplifting words. More than one hundred people now receive a daily dose of the Son, a daily reminder of Jesus’ love nudging us all closer to our Heavenly Father and His Kingdom that awaits us, when we open our hearts to Him.

Sondrenched is my gift to you. My hope is that you find a touch of Jesus on these pages, written with love in my heart for a man who died for you and me. I’ve discovered that Jesus touches my heart the most at sunrise and sunset. I’ve grouped some early morning prayers and devotionals into a collaboration called Sonrise. If He meets you in the evening, you’ll find readings you can find peace in called Sonset. I hope these words calm your soul as you rise for your day or as you drift off to sleep. Find the fine lines of grace in the sunrises and sunsets of your life. The fine line of red and blue that greet each other at dawn, or at the end of the day as dusk settles in. Jesus will meet you at these fine lines where He’ll fill your heart with love. He adores you and wants nothing more than to have a relationship with you. Meet Jesus at the fine lines in your life and become Sondrenched in His love. Jesus is pursuing us daily. He’s sending tiny love notes in the form of sunrises, sunsets and in the tiny smiles of your family and friends.

I pray that your love for Jesus will multiply with every word and devotion on these pages. May your love for Jesus extend and develop to its fullest, and may your knowledge of this love provide keen insight and discernment. May you live a God-driven life knowing that someday we will all meet Jesus in Heaven.
