Healing Thoughts: Workable Views for Healing and Inspiration
()
About this ebook
Misfortune has no color, shape or form. Life happens and tragedies abound; relationships fail; people lose their fortunes; and people get sick and die. No matter who you are, as long as you are physically alive you will experience challenges, but the presence of God is within us as a mighty healing force and perfection in all things. The I within cannot be sick, limited, or afraid. The I within us cannot die. It is eternal. It is the living Spirit of God.
In Healing Thoughts, author Marjorie Daun Timberlake-Linton shares that when there is a conscious realization of the presence and power of God within, we can handle any situation that confronts us. It is the answer to every need, every desire, and all heartache. In moments of sickness and disease, doubts and anxiety, God is the answer. There is therefore nothing to heal or demonstrate, only the presence of God to be revealed.
Timberlake Linton, an ordained minister, presents advice and suggests ways of embracing Gods healing including faith, rest, prayer, surrender and thanksgiving. Using a variety of personal anecdotes she covers such subjects as dealing with health challenges, stress and fear. At the end of each chapter, she offers a call to action and lists steps you can take to facilitate healing.
Filled with encouragement and inspiration Healing Thoughts urges you to maintain a meaningful relationship with God, step out in faith, trust Gods promises that all things are possible, do what you can humanly do, and leave the rest to God.

24945.pngPREFACE
M y parents were ardent Christians, my mother a layman professor of truth in my eyes, often proving the wonderful working power of divine presence, unseen but nonetheless real and tangible. Her prayer habits were disciplined beyond measure, and gradually I began to follow suit.
Unfortunately, after high school I became distracted with the things of the world, and I subconsciously ventured out on my journey of self-discovery. Despite my worldly distractions, however, the biblical quotation in Romans 8:28—All things for together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose
—has worked to completion in myriad ways in my life. It took a failed marriage for me to realize the depth of my spirituality; the diagnosis of diabetes for me to become conscious of my body, mind, and spirit connection; and many other trying circumstances to pursue a relationship with the divine presence.
In an attempt to justify and reconcile my pains, sorrows, discomfort, and disappointments, I learned to unveil my true potential and discover my divine purpose by opening myself to be used by the great universal power. I felt like a magnet; the more I searched for answers, the more revelation I received, and step-by-step I began to unravel my destiny.
I believed I had found the pearl of great price
after finding my spiritual home, Unity of Jamaica. My original belief in God—one up in the sky who punishes us when we are bad and rewards us when we are good—fell to naught. The teaching of Unity reshaped my entire belief system, and I began to see the happenings in my life not as a challenge to deter me but as an opportunity to demonstrate the presence and power of God working in and through me.
Each day as I became more open and receptive to the word of God, my blessings multiplied and my constant practice of truth principles made me increasingly aware of the omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of God. My reward came later when, after many obstacles I was accepted into the ministerial educational program at the Unity School of Christianity in Kansas City, Missouri, to pursue a ministerial career. I was ordained in 2002 with an undergraduate degree.
Unity is a worldwide nondenominational spiritual movement over 120 years old that emphasizes the divine potential within every child of God. Unity teaches that through a practical understanding of what Jesus taught, every person can express his or her potential to live a happy and successful life.
Cofounder Charles Fillmore stated, Unity is a link in the educational movement, inaugurated by Jesus Christ. Our objective is to discern the truth in Christianity and prove it. The truth that we teach is not new; it’s not our own but revealed and interpreted by Jesus Christ. We do not claim special revelation or discoveries of new religious principles. Our purpose is to help and teach mankind to use and prove the eternal truth taught by our Master, Jesus.
Unity first began as a prayer ministry, and its spiritual purpose was defined and accelerated when cofounder Myrtle Fillmore realized complete healing after being diagnosed with tuberculosis, which at the time was termed incurable.
My exposure to this arena of truth was enormous—inspiring, worthwhile, and uplifting. Among many truth teachings of Unity are five basic truth principles, which have garnered my attention and taken root in my mind. They are not only practical but also logical and workable. They are as follows:
God is absolute good, equally present everywhere.
We are individualized expressions of the Christ.
Thoughts held in mind create after their kind.
Prayer and meditation is the connecting link to God.
We receive ultimate results when we practice the truth that we know.
Above all, I learned that because God is good, I did not have to plead and placate Him to receive good. I learned that I am a cocreator with God and that I therefore have the power within me, with the acknowledgment of the divine presence, to change my circumstances and create my world of God.
As I availed myself more and more to the great universal power, acknowledging my powerlessness of myself, my time spent in God’s presence intensified through prayer and meditation. I learned and proved that putting God first and focusing on His presence was the ultimate goal, after which all things were added.
Life happens; there are many lessons to be learned, as the law of cause and effect is perfect and just. Nevertheless, because God is all good, the law works to cancel our debts through God’s redeeming grace, made possible through Jesus, the Christ, with His death and resurrection. Consequently, no matter how many times we fall short, we can always try again as many times as we require, thanks to Jesus, the Christ.
My first assignment after my ordination was in the United States Virgin Islands, where I served as a minister for ten years. I also served in many aspects of church ministry, as well as facilitating a weekly radio and television broadcast.
I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, but this was coupled with many challenges. Nevertheless, it all seemed to be a part of the divine plan, as I gained unceasing strength and vigilance, having had to dig deeper into my spiritual well to find answers to illuminate far-reaching obstacles. When the answers were not forthcoming, assuming a state of surrender was my only resolve, and it never failed that God’s truth finally thundered in the silence of my heart.
Even though challenges often seemed insurmountable, I still felt somewhat grounded in Saint Croix. It was difficult to sever ties, having developed a kinship with my many people, acquired a home, and sustained a partnership deal in a very lucrative business. Despite this, however, underneath was a deep yearning to go back to Jamaica.
Eventually, the great spirit of truth had its way, landing me back in my homeland of Jamaica. This was not entirely my choice, as my work permit, which had expired, warranted my return to Jamaica before a renewal was possible.
I went to Jamaica with many mixed feelings, and it took me about two years to find my focus. Slowly, I am beginning to see the bigger picture. I strongly await further divine instructions on how to proceed, and I know that the coming years will be greater than those in the past. Whatever it may be, I am open and receptive to be used by Spirit.
In the meantime, I am fulfilled by teaching classes at the Unity church in Jamaica; conducting workshops in the Caribbean and in the United States; promoting my first book, Embracing Truth in Times of Adversity; and writing this book, Healing Thoughts.
