About this ebook

The purpose of life is a life of purpose. Robert Byrne

I have officiated many funerals in which I and the family communicate that we are not here to simply mourn the death but to celebrate the life of the deceased. Have you ever attended such a memorial service?

One in which no one struggles to come up with something great to say. This person impacted, influenced and inspired, others everywhere and anywhere they went.

In the movie Braveheart William Wallace states that, "Every man dies, not every man really lives."

Our U.S. Army encourages, Be all you can be.

You are more important in the lives of others than you probably realize but you can most definitely increase your impact, your value and significance.

I want to live a life worth celebrating.

I hope to do that very thing with every page of this book by inspiring you, causing you to want and do the same.

Page one of chapter one may begin somewhat controversial for you, then again it may not, but please, read on.

Ron surrendered to the call of God on his life to be a youth pastor in 1980. That fall he enrolled in Bible College in Missouri where he met his bride to be and they were married in the summer of 1983. Upon graduating from college in 1984, he began serving as a full-time youth pastor in Arlington, Texas. After eight years, the Lord moved Ron and his family back to Missouri to be youth pastor in the church he attended while going to college. Twelve years later and the Lord saw fit to move the Hullett family to Florida. This is where Ron currently serves as youth pastor. He is the father of two beautiful daughters. He is grandfather to five terrific grandsons. Ron is a second-degree black belt and Alumni of the FBI Citizens Academy. Ron’s summery of all of this? “All I can say is, I AM BLESSED.”

    Introduction

The purpose of life is a life of purpose.

    —Robert Byrne

I have officiated many funerals in which the family and I agreed we were not there to simply mourn the death but to celebrate the life of the deceased. Have you ever attended this kind of memorial service? It’s a service where no one has to struggle with what to say about the person who has died because this person impacted, influenced, and inspired others everywhere he or she went. I want to live a life that is worth celebrating. I hope every page of this book will inspire and cause you to want to do the same.

In the movie Braveheart, William Wallace says, Every man dies, not every man really lives. There is a big difference between just existing and really living. Our US army encourages, Be all you can be. Let’s not settle for average when so much more awaits us.

You are more important in the lives of others than you probably realize. In addition, you can increase your impact, value, and significance.

I want to live a life worth celebrating, and I hope I can inspire you to do the same with every page of this book.

    Chapter 1

    The Condition

    God’s Gifts

G od’s love is unconditional, matchless, incredible, never ending, and offered to us no matter who we are, where we come from, what skin color we have, or how terrible our sins are. His love is absolutely free. We do not have to do anything to make our Creator love us. Because He loves the entire world, He offers His salvation as a free gift to everyone. He extends His inconceivable mercy and grace to every man, woman, and child.

Even though His gifts are unconditional, He does ask something of us. The apostle Paul says that God comforts us in all our tribulations—our trials, our sorrows, our pain, our suffering, and our discouragement—so we may be able to show other people the same comfort God has shown us (see 2 Corinthians 1:3–4). God does not say that He will withhold His assistance if we refuse to assist others. However, He makes it clear that God helps us so we will help others.

Perhaps you, like I, thought that the reason God so often helps us in our time of trouble was simply because He loves us so. Wrong!

Yes, God’s love is unconditional, but His help is not!

How long then can we expect God to rescue us if we refuse to do the same?

The book of James 4:2 reminds us to pray Then in verse 3, James says that we ask but don’t receive because we are simply attempting to fulfill our own selfish desires. We are only thinking of ourselves. Philippians 2:4 reminds us not only to take care of our own needs but the needs of others.

Yes, God does require something from us, which could be seen as a condition. This condition is not, however, for His gain but for ours. Oddly, when we fulfill this condition, He keeps helping us.

We don’t serve or do things to get God’s love. We serve or do things because we have God’s love—and because we want to be just like Him.

    Times of Trouble

In the Bible, Job wrote, Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble (Job 14:1). John 16:33 testified to the fact that while we are here on earth, we will face tough times. Though our problems may vary, none of us is a stranger to trouble.

However, John also reminds us that we can be joyful when we follow Jesus’s lead because He is an overcomer. We follow His lead by being His servant—yes, a servant—and helping each other through these difficult
