Poetry Devotions: Receiving Inspiration from Him
Author

Gabriel Bridgmon

Gabriel has been writing poems since high school. In the last three years he has been working to make those years of poetry writing available for people to share and experience their excitement, enlightenment, and inspiration. Reading other people’s books has given Gabriel great encouragement to write his own book. He believes the hours spent in prayer and meditation upon God’s Word has motivated him to share what God has been speaking to his heart. He believes the poems inspired during time spent alone with the Lord will minister to individuals just as they ministered to him. Gabriel and his wife Nina are currently residing in West Lafayette, Indiana while participating in Purdue University Chi Alpha’s Campus Ministry training program.

    Poetry Devotions - Gabriel Bridgmon

    JANUARY 1

Start the New Year off with the greatest—LOVE.

    1Corintians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. NIV

    LOVE SEES

Love knows no color, Love sees no colors.

Love identifies you as a sister or brother.

Love treats you like a loving father or mother.

Love knows Love sees no color.

    Love sees.

Love sees your behavior, Love knows your behavior.

    Love sees beyond your behavior.

    Love gives loving favor.

Love desires to give you another chance.

    Love believes you will advance.

Love sees your behavior, Love knows your behavior.

    Love sees.

Love sees your heart, Love knows your heart.

    Love sees behind your speech.

Love knows you’re not out of Love’s reach.

Love knows you’re crying out in pain.

Love has the power to break every chain.

Love sees your heart, Love knows your heart.

    Love sees.

Now prayerfully meditate on God’s love and write down what the Holy Spirit is speaking to your heart about God’s love for you and others.

    JANUARY 2

Approach the second day of the New Year with the attitude: "I ‘m refusing to go back to my old life of sin and determined to live my new life in Jesus Christ.

2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old is gone, the new has come! NIV

    BEEN THERE DONE THAT.

Been there done that, never want to go there again.

Been there done that, new life I’ve began.

That old life can never be my friend again.

Cause I’ve been there done that.

Caught up in a world of trouble, impact of it all doubled.

I went flat on my face, cried out for God’s grace.

    He turned it all around.

He put my feet on solid ground.

Been there done that, never want to go there again.

Been there done that, new life I’ve began.

That old lie can never be my friend again.

Cause I’ve been there done that.

Now I’m facing my life differently.

Cause I got a hold of God’s possibility.

I’m no longer walking with my head down.

Grab a hold of His joy for that old sad frown.

He’s the One who picked me up when I was down

Been there done that, no more regrets.

Been there done that, He’s not through with me yet.

Been there done that, Thank God Jesus paid my debt.

Meditate: Like a CD or song on your phone, mp3 player, tablet, or computer playing over and over again, you become tired of that old life of sin.

Pray: Lord, I’m 100% with You, I don’t want to live that old life of sin again.

Now prayerfully meditate on the great salvation God have given you through Jesus Christ your savior and write down what the Holy Spirit breathes into your heart and spirit about it’s worth and value.

    JANUARY 3

It’s a New Year, new life and new way of living as a believer in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live, not I, but Christ lives within me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loves me, and gave Himself for me. NKJV

    NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

They say I’ll never recover from my messed up life.

They say what I discovered would be short lived, it won’t last.

Now it’s been years ago when I opened my heart’s door.

And since then I’ve never been the same.

    What I have is real.

It’s not just something I feel.

It’s not just a short lived thrill.

    It’s not only long lasting.

Its everlasting the new life I have in Christ.

Once upon a time has come and gone.

I used to feel all alone with people all around me.

He changed that you see, with His life, love, and liberty.

    What I have is real.

It’s not just something I feel.

It’s not just a short lived thrill.

    It’s not only long lasting.

Its everlasting the new life I have in Christ.

Now I have a future, new life in Christ.

Now He is my future, new life in Christ.

He made all things new, new life in Christ.

    What I have is real.

It’s not just something I feel.

It’s not just a short lived thrill.

    It’s not only long lasting.

Its everlasting the new life I have in Christ.

Thought: Since you have a new life in Christ that means the old one is gone.

Pray: Lord, help me to life out the new life you’ve given me and refuse live according to the old one.

    JANUARY 4

There’s a friend who will be with you through storms, sun shine, good, and difficult times.

Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends, must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. NKJV

    STICK CLOSER

    There’s someone who’s always present.

Never away, always near, and never absent.

He’s ever present in times of trouble and ever present in times of need.

He sticks closer than a brother.

Though your father and mother forsake you and though others fail to be true.

    They may let you down.

When in need of help nowhere to be found.

He sticks closer than a brother.

He promised to never leave or forsake you.

He sticks closer than a brother.

He said He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

He sticks closer than a brother.

He said, I’m the Lord and I change not.

He sticks closer than a brother.

He said, I will keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Me, because you trust in Me.

He sticks closer than a brother.

    MEDITATE

: There are glues, that have very strong adhesiveness, but they can’t stick closer to you than the Lord. Pray: Father thank You, You are that Friend who sticks closer than a sister, brother, mother, or father.

    JANUARY 5

The light of Jesus shines in our lives and dispels all darkness. Darkness has no choice but to flee when the light of Jesus arrives on the scene.

    John 1:4&5

In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. NKJV

    PIERCING LIGHT

When it seems like the powers of darkness is surrounding you and lurking all about you.

Remember His Word says the light shines in the darkness and the darkness doesn’t understand the light.

    Piercing Light

When darkness surrounds you and your future seems so dim.

When you’re left with no options and things look so grim.

You don’t know what to do you need the Lord to see you through.

That’s the time His love comes shining through.

It’s a piercing light shining so bright.

He dispels the darkness with His great light.

Changing sadness and sorrows to joy.

Changing hopelessness and despair into a hopeful future.

Yes His piercing light shining so bright into your heart, spirit, and soul.

    THINK

: Jesus’ love pierced the darkness in your life and imparted you with eternal life.

    THANKSGIVING:

Jesus thank you for piercing the darkness in my life.

    JANUARY 6

You need to understand that you possess something that God can use to touch other people’s lives. Don’t allow the enemy to trick you into saying you don’t have anything.

John 6:9 There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes, but what are they among so many? NKJV

    HE TAKES WHAT YOU HAVE

He has placed talents and gifts within you.

Some are evident and others you don’t see.

He takes what you have as a means to bring liberty.

There are many who are longing to be free.

    They’re trapped behind unseen bars.

They are in prison by emotional pain and scars.

You have within you His gift and power to set them free.

He continues to urge you only believe.

He takes what you have as a means to bring liberty.

Now it’s up to you to see the possibility.

You can experience lost and unsaved people giving their lives to the Lord.

People no longer divided living in one according.

Because He takes what you have.

Think: If Jesus can use what the lad with the five loaves of bread and two fishes had, surely He can use what He has given you.

Pray: Lord, I bring what you given me use it to set captive people free.

    JANUARY 7

Nothing remains the same or last forever only the things of God. Your current situation, circumstance, or problem will pass away.

Isaiah 40:6-8 The voice said, Cry out!And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass. And all its loveliness is like the flower of the fields. The grass withers, the flower fades. Because the breath of the Lord blows on it. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades. But the word of our God stands forever. NKJV

    THIS TOO SHALL PASS

Just lost your job and bills stacked sky high.

What you’re going to do now?

It’s weighing heavily on your mind.

People, keep on asking how are you doing?

    You say, just fine!

Inside your heart is beating fast.

You wonder if you’re up to the task.

    This too shall past.

    God will see you through.

    You’re in transition.

He’s got something in stored for you.

    This too shall past.

Hold your head up your life is not over.

Jesus is the author and finisher of your faith.

He is in the process of making you over.

    This too shall pass.

    You see we’re going through.

You’re about to enter something or coming out of something.

This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall past.

    God will see you through.

    You’re in transition.

He’s got something in stored for you.

    This too shall pass.

Late at night you pace the floor.

Found out your child snuck out the door.

    Praying they’ll be alright.

Phone rings it’s them on the other side.

They cry I’m at the police station please come and get me.

This one thing changed their wayward tide.

    This too shall pass.

    Meditate

    :

Only the Lord is forever. What you’re going through may seem like it’s lasting forever. It too shall pass. Pray: God help me to place my focus on You because You’re eternal and everything else is temporal.

    JANUARY 8

Rise from the ash heap of sin since you have the King of kings who gave you His new life living within.

    Romans 6:4

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. NKJV

    RISE UP!

You’re no longer dead in your sins.

You have a new nature the Spirit of God within.

No longer live according to your past life.

No longer walk in envy, jealousy, and strife.

No longer hold your head down.

    No longer wear a frown.

No longer live with the old man mentality.

Rise up and live out God’s reality.

Rise up and live out God’s vitality.

Rise Up! Rise UP! Rise UP!

    Think

    :

Don’t forget whose you are, and who you are. You are alive in Christ Jesus.

Pray: God continue to remind me by Your Word, Whose I am, and who I am in Christ Jesus.

    JANUARY 9

Trust in God the door opener.

    John 10:9

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. NKJV

    OPEN DOOR

They all seemed closed, the doors to success, the door of opportunity, and the door of progress. I had almost given up.

I had almost thrown in the towel.

But He said, "Just wait a while there’s no need to walk around with a frown.

He said He’ll be my open door.

Closed doors will be no more.

For He is the door no one can close.

Now I’m going in and out.

Free to succeed. He made me free indeed.

Progress I’m making. His new life I’ve been taking. He said He’ll be my open door.

Closed door will be no more.

For He is the door no one can close.

Meditate: Every door that’s closed is closed for a reason. Every door that’s open is open for a reason. Is it the will of God that is closed or open?

Pray: God I want the door open You want me to walk through and close the one You don’t want me to walk through.

    JANUARY 10

When it seems like there’s no way you’re going to be able to make it through and there seems to be no way out, don’t bow down to doubt.

    Matthew 19:26

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. NKJV

    WAY OUT OF NO WAY

There’s no way I could get over.

There’s no way I could get under.

There’s no way I could get around.

There’s no way to be found.

That’s when I turn to You.

I know You’ll see me through.

That’s when I turn to You.

I know You’ll bring me out.

You make a way out of no way.

You say believe and don’t doubt.

You’ll make a path where none exist.

You’ll be the turn my eyes missed.

When searching for a way out.

None seem seems to come about.

Wrecking my brains to find a solution, but there seems to be no resolution.

That’s when I turn to you.

I know You’ll bring me out.

You make a way out of no way.

You’ll become the solution to the problem.

You’re the only One who can solve them.

You say believe what my word says.

You’ll make a way out of no way.

    Meditate

    :

    He is the way out.

Pray: God help me to come to the conclusion, You are the way.

    JANUARY 11

When feeling weak remember the source of your strengthen is the Lord. God by His Holy Spirit will strengthen you.

    Joel 3:10

Beat your plowshares into words and your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, I am strong. NKJV

    STRENGTH IN TIMES OF WEAKNESS

The weight of things is heavy.

So heavy is the weight to carry.

I feel like my strength is almost gone.

    Sometimes I feel so weak.

Thank God He says, Let the weak I’m strong.

I know from experience He is my strength in times of weakness.

Sometimes it seems like I’m carrying a heavy load.

Yes things in my life seem to weigh heavy on my soul.

I ‘m dealing with my job, concern about my future, can I provide for my wife, and children.

Yes, I’ll admit I forget sometimes I’m just a pilgrim.

See when I take my eyes off Him I become weak.

See when put my eyes on them I become weak.

Thank God He says, Let the weak say I’m strong.

I know from experience He is my strength in times of weakness.

    Meditate: He is our strength.

Pray: Lord you are my strength.

    JANUARY 12

When doubt and unbelief arise He dispels them with faith.

    Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. NKJV

FAITH IN TIMES OF DOUBT AND UNBELIEF

Only believe all things are possible is what the song says.

The angel even shouted out to Mary, For with God nothing will be impossible.

Hey! When doubt comes my way trying to get me to walk and live in unbelief.

    I cry out to Jesus.

    I look unto Jesus.

Cause He’s my faith in times of doubt and unbelief.

My future appears sometimes to be awful grim.

My chances of success in life seems, oh so slim.

That’s when I remind myself of whose I am.

That’s when I remind myself who I am in Christ Jesus.

    Yes, in Christ my Lord.

    I cry out to Jesus.

    I look to Jesus.

Cause He’s my faith in times of doubt and unbelief.

    (Luke 1:37)

Think: Where else can you draw the faith you need when doubt and unbelief lurks around every corner.

Pray: God through Your Word You give me the faith I need even when it seems difficult to believe.

    JANUARY 13

Every human soul has been stricken with the disease of sin, but God has provided a cure.

    1John 2:2

And Him Himself is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but for the whole world. NKJV

SAVIOR OF THE SIN SICK SOUL

All humanity has been stricken by a disease for which there is no earthly cure.

All humanity has been stricken by a virus for which there is no earthly vaccine.

All humanity has been exposed to hazardous material for which there is no earthly syringe.

God had to provide what no man or woman could invent.

God had to provide what no man or woman could create.

God had to provide what no man or woman could ever think of.

God Himself had to do what no animal could suffice.

God Himself had to do what no mire man or woman could make the ultimate sacrifice.

You see with His wounds the price of our transgressions were paid.

You see with His bruises the price of our iniquities were paid.

You see with His chastisement our peace was paid.

You see with His stripes the price of our healing was paid.

Cause He is the savior of the sin sick soul.

Meditate: Wounds and bruises was the cost Jesus paid for the cure of sin sick soul.

Thanks: Jesus thank You for paying the cost for the cure I receive for my sickness of sin.

    JANUARY 14

When a person is bound by sin, and Satan they are in need of a deliverer.

    Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. NKJV

    DELIVERER

    He came to my rescue.

    He came to my aid.

I was a slave to sin, self, and Satan.

I was trapped in bondage, chained, shackled and fettered.

Life was a drag even in sun shiny weather.

But He found me when I was so lost.

But He set me free when I was held captive.

He’s my Deliverer my Redeemer, and the Savior of my soul.

    Deliverer!

It was the power of His love that broke my shackles.

It was the power of His blood that washed me from my sin.

I t was the power of His life that crushed the chains of Satan.

You see He is my liberty.

    He is my Deliverer.

    Deliverer!

Meditate: We had an eternal sentence to be forever separated from God and spend eternality with the devil and his angels, but Jesus delivered us.

Pray: Lord, I’m forever grateful and thankful for Jesus delivering me.

    JANUARY 15

He is the Lord God our Healer. He’s the Healer of sicknesses; diseases; emotional scars; and wounds; and broken hearts.

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds NKJV. Exodus 15:26 "…For I am the Lord God who heals you." NKJV

    HEALER

Emotional wounds, scars, and cuts have pierced my heart.

Weighing heavily on my soul I feel like I’m about to fall apart.

I need healing. I’m in need of a cure.

I’ve searched and tried almost every earthly thing, but they wouldn’t do.

That’s when I finally turned and cried out to you.

For I finally realized that You are the Healer.

Physical diseases and sickness plagues one time or another.

    People’s bodies racked with pain.

Crippled, bed ridden, hospitalized and feeling demised.

But one mention of Your Great Name!

But if one person dare to believe in the power of Your Name!

In Your Name causes diseases and sicknesses to leave.

In Your Name crippled walk, bed ridden get up, hospitalized discharged, and the diseased find relief.

    Because You are the Healer.

    MEDITATE:

He is the Healer. Thanks: Father, thank You, You are Jehovah-Rophe, the God who heals.

    JANUARY 16

The Lord is faithful to protect us. The Lord is the One who sustains us and keep us alive.

    Lamentations 3:22-23

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness. NKJV

    PROTECTOR

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is He who protects us.

Though all around winds may blow and though storms may roar.

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is He who protects us.

How many times you can count you could have been dead?

How many times in your life death could have had?

God stepped in said, It’s not your time.

Can you remember let it be recalled back to your mind.

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is He who protects us.

Though the car came close and your side was damaged the most.

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is He who protects us.

Caught in the crossfire with bullets wising by they missed you but hit another guy.

Critically injured they pronounce him DOA.

God allowed you to live through another day.

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is He who protects us.

At anytime there could be a collapse.

At anytime there could be a fatal mishap.

It is He who keeps us alive.

It is he who protects us.

Think: God gave you His breath so you can breathe. It’s not your breath, but God’s.

Pray: God, You gave me my breath so I can breathe, surely You can protect me.

    JANUARY 17

Someone once said, He will keep you if you want to be kept.

    Psalm 121:5

The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. NKJV

    KEEPER

    Jesus will keep you.

God will give you a way out.

When temptation comes to overwhelm you and your resistance can’t be found.

It seems like you’re on shaky ground, He will keep you.

The Holy Spirit gives power to stand and say no to sin.

God has given you the authority to breakthrough and win.

You don’t have to bow down.

You don’t have to fall down.

    You can stand up!

    You can be victorious!

You can be victorious over Satan, sin, and self.

    He will keep you.

    He’s the Keeper.

Mediate: Certainly, He can keep you if you really truly want to be kept.

Pray: God, keep me, for my solely desire is to be kept by you.

    JANUARY 18

Think about this: there has never been a recorded record of God being unavailable.

    (Omnipresent, Jehovah-Shammah)

    Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. NKJV

    EVER PRESENT

    Never absent.

He has always been marked here.

    Ever present He’s ever present.

Not limited by space or time.

    He is everywhere.

    Ever
