This book is dedicated to my family and friends,
who inspired me to write this book.
Prologue
There comes a time, when you lose contact with your friends and family. During that time you lose them, is when you need them most. So let’s not leave here as strangers to one another, but friends. We all have to travel our separate ways, but why should we let that stop us from talking to each other? As we head off to college, we always need to hold in our hearts, the memories of great friendships. Though going to college might seem like a big step, or a big change, for some of us, change is a part of life. Sometimes, change brings you to your best. So, we cannot be afraid of change, because, that’s just life. Thank you.
Camille said as she stepped away from the podium. The principal clapped along with the audience and proceeded in calling the names of the graduates. He called the graduates with the last names starting with A, then B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, then came to K.
Jackson Kim.
The principal called, as Jackson walked across the stage wearing the blue graduation gown with his valedictorian sash draped over his shoulders. He shook the principal’s hand and took his diploma. He turned to face the camera and the photographer took a photo. He walked off the stage and the principal continued calling the names. He finished calling all the graduates with the last name K, and started calling the Ls.
Alice Lam.
Alice, who had a big smile on her face, walked confidently in her graduation gown and valedictorian sash towards the principal, shook his hand, received her diploma, and took the picture. With my eavesdropper device, I could hear the principal whisper, Be good Alice.
She nodded and started walking off the stage. She waved to a group of people in the stands and blew kisses toward them. The principal called a few more names, then called her.
Camille Ly.
Camille walked up onto the stage wearing her yellow valedictorian sash and shook the principal’s hand, holding her diploma, taking the photo, etc. She smiled as she walked off the stage, but then her smile was gone. I wondered why she looked so sad, graduating and all. I pushed that thought away as the principal started calling the Ms. I sat bored, through the Ms, but sat back up when he got to N. He called about 10 to 15 people then called the Nguyens.
Kayla Nguyen.
Kayla bounded up the steps, her valedictorian sash practically almost falling off, and ran over to the principal shaking his hand for the picture. After the picture, she put her arms in the air waving her diploma. WOOOO!!!
she screamed. She did a little dance on stage while the audience applauded and went to go sit down. The principal started calling the rest of the names before going through O, P, Q, R, and at least ⅔ of the Ss.
Alexandra Sun.
Alexandra, from where I was ‘seated’, I guess, walked up to the stage in her bright green shoes with the bright yellow valedictorian sash over her shoulders. She smiled, accepted her diploma, shook the principal’s hand, and took the picture. She waved to her family in the stands and went to go sit down. The principal called the rest of the students with last name starting with S and moved onto the Ts. Taft, Tafuri, Talaro, Tarvin, Tata, Tennett, Tharrington, Tian. I heard as I sat bored out of my mind through those last names.
Ana Tran.
I sat up. It’s about time man. I thought, as he finally called one Tran. She did the whole picture-diploma-shaking hands thing and went to go sit down. One down, at least 50 to go. I thought, looking at the program I luckily found on the ground. He called about ½ of the Trans then finally got to Jasmine.
Jasmine Tran.
the principal announced. Jasmine walked up to the principal, who was about half a head taller, and shook his hand. She took her diploma and the picture, then went to go sit down. The principal droned on through the rest of the Ts, then Us, Vs, and finally reached W. There weren’t many people with the last name W, so this was pretty quick.
Bree Wooding.
Bree, in her glammed out graduation gown, walked up to the principal, shook his hand, and took her diploma. She stood for the picture with the principal, then went to her seat. The principal proceeded in calling the rest of the graduates before his farewell speech. So, seniors. Glad to be graduating?
the seniors in the audience laughed politely, I know that you all have worked hard. So I would like to acknowledge the valedictorians again. Please stand where you are when I call your name.
he cleared his throat.
Jackson Kim. Alice Lam. Camille Ly. Kayla Nguyen. Alexandra Sun. Jasmine Tran, and finally, Bree Wooding.
The seven friends stood and stared at each other. "You see, these seven students have worked hard since day one at Montgomery. All As since freshman. Now, that’s, a real accomplish to celebrate. You may sit valedictorians. Now, I wish that you’ve had the best four years at Montgomery High, and I wish you all the best. he paused, dramatically, then continued speaking.
Seniors, please rise. All the students rose and the principal continued,
Please move your tassels from right to left. CONGRATULATIONS MONTGOMERY HIGH GRADUATES!" the principal exclaimed/shouted, and all the seniors threw their graduation caps into the air. At that time, everyone was happy. Well, at least I thought…
After the graduation had finished, I saw Alice, Alexandra, Kayla, Jackson, Camille, Jasmine, and Bree stand in a circle looking at each other. They exchanged no words, but just stared at each other before parting ways. Using my binoculars, I saw that Kayla, Jasmine, Jackson, Alice, and Bree had gone over to their families. Alexandra, however went over to large group
