Look at me now

Sitting in the drama classroom as everyone got into pairs, I frantically looked for a partner.

Odd one out, yet again, I thought, feeling disheartened.

‘Right Jess, you’re with me,’ my drama teacher smiled.

It was the same old story.

I was 12, and ever since I had started secondary school the year before, in 2007, I’d been left out and picked on.

I was tall for my age, with bright, coppery hair, glasses and braces, and the other kids in my class made fun of my appearance.

Things had been fine in primary school, but now, in high school, I found myself struggling to make friends.
