My worst moment: ‘Insecure’ star Natasha Rothwell on learning she’s enough and doesn’t need gimmicks

As part of the core group of friends on “Insecure,” now in its fifth and final season, Natasha Rothwell’s Kelli has always been a standout: Confident in her charms, a loyal friend to the end and outrageous enough to randomly adopt a British accent when meeting someone new.

Rothwell’s comedy bona fides also include a stint as a writer on “Saturday Night Live,” but recently she ventured into more serious territory on “The White Lotus,” giving a wonderfully layered performance as the undervalued spa manager, Belinda. These days, Rothwell is in the United Kingdom filming the “Wonka” prequel with Timothee Chalamet.

The film is a musical. And funny thing about musicals — when asked about a worst moment in her career, a memorable audition for one is what came to mind.
