About this ebook

For some, it takes time to realise they have actually fallen in love.

Sarah Arva is different. She believes that if someone is made for you, a cup of coffee should fix it all.

She hates the wandering about in a relationship for years, and she believes marriage should be on top of the list. When the flirting begins, it is followed up with confusion and misunderstanding at work.

But when Tobias Kinza gets transferred to San Francisco all of a sudden, just when Sarah has finally agreed she really likes him, she decides to make a move.

Why can’t a girl make the first move? But it has to be sensible. Sarah Arva has a wise plan, and she doesn’t want to regret it when she turns fifty.

But would Tobias Kinza respond the same? Will he declare how he feels? And was Sarah perfectly sure it’s not an infatuation, but Mr. Right?

Heart-warming, and romantic, A First Move is a story that will make you laugh, sad, and support Sarah when she finally realises she doesn’t want to regret whole her life.

    Dear reader

You hold in your hands my first novel. I have many other stories with great morals which would be out soon.

I have written A First Move for so many reasons. Today we are living in a world where almost all of our time are spent at work, and after work we only have a few hours to rest at home.

I have met so many people in life who affirmed that it is extremely difficult to meet the right person nowadays. I reckon that is true, but A First Move would give you an example that nothing is unfeasible in life. And let’s not eradicate the little hope which grows in the hearts, everything has a reason behind. You will meet an amazing character, Sarah Arva, who is totally different and has a mind of her own, she hates dating for long, and believes if you have met the right one, he should propose.

I suppose that is a good perception to resign yourself to, as many dates lead to lots of confusion and waiting too long causes heart ache too. Well, there are many things to consider when it comes to relationship.

A First Move has strong morals, which will give you examples how you could learn someone has lied and how you should just forgive them.

How you should respect your Parents, and do not be judgmental.

And how fair it is for a girl to make a first move.

Anywhere, anytime, things can change, let’s just be optimistic.

I hope you enjoy this story.

A First Move is entirely a work of Fiction. The names, characters and incidents portrayed in it are the work of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events or localities is entirely coincidental.

The company name included in the book is fictional.

Dedicated to all the Parents in the world…

We apologise for any typos if found as they sometimes slip through, this shouldn’t affect the author’s future work as we didn’t carry a professional editing yet.

A First Move is a contemporary romance mostly about girls gossip and relationship.

    CHAPTER ONE

The tawny rays projecting from the sun, flickered, touching the titanium sides of the tall refined buildings. People to and fro, some were stumbling while chasing the yellow cabs, others ambling down the street with their high heels, knocking the ground, red lipstick on and mini skirts.

A city full of buzz just as the surrounding of honeycombs, where foreigners dawdling around holding their small high-tech screens, snapping the amazing scenery, the East river, and the long fabricated exquisite Brooklyn Bridge. It was my most favourite place in the prominent city of New York, with its lights reining the whole city at night, and delivering the most romantic place to me.

I would often stop over at Brooklyn Bridge whenever I needed some time on my own, but for now I had to rush off for a job interview in Manhattan.

I ran after the green double - decker bus, I knew it would flag down since it was nearing a bus stop.

My feet were hardly on the ground since I was racing behind the double - decker – my heart began to throw a heavy beat, and I was worried as my perspiration attempted to slop my fair make up.

I board in the bus, heaving a sigh of relief, wiping off the drops of perspiration on my forehead.

It was a very short journey. I alighted at Manhattan station and walked down as according to my Satellite navigation, it was only a few blocks away from the station.

As I approached the skyscraper with a mix of Greek and futuristic architecture, I slowed down, taking a long breath, with my hands turning out colder. I rubbed and plunged my hands in my pockets and entered the building.

‘Good afternoon, Sir – I have a meeting with Mr Karl today around two o’clock,’ my voice began to quaver at the reception desk.

‘Are you Miss Sarah Arva?’ asked the receptionist as he threw a glance at the computer in front of him.

‘Yeah,’ I wiped off my running nose.

‘First floor, please,’ he answered courteously.

‘Thank you,’ I took a quick peek at my watch.

Then I took the stairs and walked towards the William and Sons’ office.

‘Miss Sarah Arva,’ called a deep voice behind.

I turned round with a faint smile on my face, ‘Yeah I am’.

‘Follow me please,’ said the blacked - haired man.

I went behind him like an obedient child at primary school.

He ducked his head while entering the office and took his seat.

‘Have a seat, please,’ he said with a smile creasing across his pale, round face.

‘Well, my name is Karl,’ introduced the young man.

‘Okay, let’s have a look here,’ he added while rummaging through some documents.

‘So how old are you Miss Sarah?’

    ‘I’m twenty three’.

‘Okay, I have checked your file already, and yeah congratulation you’re fit for the job – you will be working in our Brooklyn branch, is that alright for you?’ he asked gently with a smile creasing across his face.

    ‘Yeah, sure, it’s fine.’

‘You will be answering our clients calls and arranging their appointments as well as dealing with some paper works,’ explained Karl, throwing a quick glance at his laptop.

‘I have spoken to Simon already – he is your manager and he will be coaching you along,’ he twisted the pen he was holding, as though he was mentally calculating something.

‘Okay and when am I starting?’

‘Tomorrow, if that is alright with you – you can start your training.’

    ‘That’s fine with me.’

‘Okay then Miss Sarah, all the best,’ he said, thrusting his hand for a shake.

    ‘Thank you, Sir.’

I walked out and heaved a sigh of relief, since I had been looking for a better job than the one I had.

I jumped out in excitement, I decided to do some clothes shopping on the way home.

After that, I hurried home to prep for my training for the following day.

It was quiet and peaceful around, I felt quite exhausted, but I had to look into the office materials too, and got myself ready to be a busy person.

I scrolled down few theories on company to brush up my knowledge until I decided to close my eyes for a quick nap.

A screechy ringing tone woke me up from a deep sleep.

It was slightly dark with heavy rain hitting through my window, and for a brief moment I forgot I had training today.

Fumbling for the light switch, I glanced at the clock and was surprised to see it was almost eleven.

I stretched my arms, tied my hair up into a ponytail, and dashed into the washroom.

I came out the steamy room, wrapped in a pink towel and scurried to dress up in my formal wear.

A white collar top and black skirt with a high heel designer shoes.

That was pretty much my most favourite attire, but we could only wear them when it was about work. Apparently, it kind of made me look more bold, that unyielding bossy attitude, ready to take challenges, someone you could not ruffle with or take for a ride – not vulnerable, like I always said.

‘I’m off to work, it’s my first day today.’

‘Good luck, hope it goes well,’ answered my sister, Jenna.

    ‘Thanks, see you later.’

    ‘See you.’

I had a very brief conversation with my sister on a bright morning, our relationship was merely shaky with multiple misunderstandings, I would rather say we were poles apart – our thoughts varied from each other. But the good thing was, rule was a rule – I never wanted to interfere in her personal issues as she hated it the most, and I supposed, I needed to keep my things discrete too. But that definitely meant, sometimes I had nobody to complain to, except close friends.

Initially, I thought of sharing the very good news to her, but then I took note not to rabbit about my new job, since I had a poor awareness about the job environment.

I caught the bus and stopped a few blocks away, as it was not too far from home.

I took a deep breath, rubbing my cold hands and entered the trying to bring out a smile across my face, the least I could do.

A fine broad-shouldered gentleman approached me in his suit and tie, looking in his thirties, clean-shaven, revealing his rough and ruddy texture more vividly, most likely because of sunburn exposure.

It seemed he spent his holidays mostly in Hawaii and Miami and that he would need a cautious treatment in the spa very soon.

I held my handbag slung round my shoulder firmly, I looked up at him and suddenly remembered my first lecture at university.

‘Good morning, Miss Sarah, I’m Simon, your manager and welcome to William and Sons company.’ He introduced himself without bringing out the kind smile which could calm my tense muscle.

    ‘Good morning, Simon, thank you.’

‘I have a good news for you, Miss Sarah, follow me please.’

I walked behind him to his office and took a seat.

‘We have reviewed your application again and since we have a Senior consultancy vacancy, we would like to honour you this position, I have received my confirmation already, are you pleased with our decision?’

I blinked at the word, and raised my eyebrow in amazement. I can’t believe this.

‘Yeah, sure, I’m pleased.’ I responded in confidence, this was the perfect job I was looking when I made the
