“Who Said God Can’T Speak Through an Ass”: Sometimes It Takes an A.S.S. to Save a Man’S Life

After forty-three years of sharing the experiences Ive had since I asked God to forgive me and then invited the Spirit of Christ to come into my life and change it one night while making me a new creature through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), Ive come to a disturbing conclusion that I felt needed to be addressed. This conclusion is one that caused me to consider how it is most Christians never have supernatural spiritual experiences like I have although they claim to be the redeemed servants of a totally supernatural invisible being who lives and operates in the supernatural dimension continuously through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit dwelling in the body of believers on the earth. He invites us into that supernatural dimension known as the kingdom of God through his Son Jesus Christ.

They along with countless other Christians in America sit and read their Bibles weekly learning about the incredible experiences of other men and women of God, whom they see as spiritual giants, ones that the Lord spoke to occasionally, like Jonah, some more, some considerably less, causing them to write about those experiences in a very matter of fact way, strictly for the benefit of those in the future, who will want to know the God they claim to have met and communicated with. They hear about those things continuously while having their Bible studies, yet they never have one of those incredible experiences themselves, which tells me something is missing in that spiritual relationship.

To address that deficiency, Ive chosen to share my own supernatural experiences based on the scriptures that took place over the course of four decades, which some spiritually shallow believers have actually claimed is just eccentric behavior on my part, which, if true, would put the entire gospel message and its promised experiences in serious jeopardy of being seen by myself and others as false for the similarities and incredible claims it contains.

I want to first say, how deeply grateful I am to so many people that I couldn’t thank them all, in a realistic manner. Therefore, the Lord had me prioritize for the sake of space and ink. We wouldn’t want to offend anyone now, would we? I want to first thank God for putting up with me, just another A … S … S … Jr. saved by grace, even great-grace at times, and don’t you think in error that I don’t know that truth intimately. Secondly, I would like to thank those who tolerated me, for whatever the reasons; God only knows. Let me not fail to mention the ex-wives and children who were soldiers, for as long as they could endure it. God said, The man who finds a wife, finds a good thing, and, children are the reward of the Lord. Seeing, God had the last say. I’ll leave it, at that.

Third, I would like to thank my three mothers, my two dads, and my heavenly Father, who all nurtured me to some degree, some considerably more, others considerably less. My stepmom and dad, who adopted my brother and I, at the wee age of four and five, I thank you for what you endured on my behalf. My stepdad, my hat is off to you, sir, because of all you went through on behalf of your family, especially me. Thanks for trying to protect me from severe abuse. I sincerely wish, I could tell you to your face how much it made a difference that you took David and I to church each Sunday morning, while staying in the car the whole time smoking those awful Camel cigarettes (Yuck!).

Somehow that church environment made a difference in the type of man I would eventually become. Now that I think about it, during those services at church, I was the one who got to carry the big gold cross on a pole down the center aisle at the beginning of each Episcopalian worship service, while the priest at Saint Paul’s Episcopalian Church, Father Hendricks, walked in front of me with his hands folded while sporting a big smile on his face. I’ll always think fondly of that man of faith for his kind and gentle nature. I now think the whole experience was foretelling in nature, and was intrinsically connected to my future walk of faith with Jesus, the High Priest of the temple of God, who is now leading the way with a big smile on His face.

My paternal parents, whose last name was Keech, I didn’t know very well, seeing, I and my two other brothers only saw my dad a few times while I was very young. That last visit took place, after, we were all put up for adoption, which included my three sisters. That’s how I ended-up in New Jersey with my brother David; which designated Garden State became, our new land of opportunity. Because he fought wars on different fronts, my dad developed a bad drinking problem that destroyed the Keech family unit while serving in the Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana. But, above all other valued possessions, my dad faithfully kept a black and white photograph of all his children in his wallet. Also in the wallet was evidence of my dad’s church affiliation, which was Pentecostal in nature. This revelation thrilled me to no end with all the implications it brought with it. My dad must have dedicated his children to the Lord, as I did many years ago with mine, at least, we didn’t fail in performing that duty. The photo and church I.D. were still there when he died at 72 from liver disease.

I also want to be fair, and give credit to whom credit is due. Therefore, I want to acknowledge all the booze and tobacco manufacturing companies for all the death and sickness you bring into all our lives directly, as well as collaterally. Did you know that, for the love of money, you helped kill and harm more human beings than Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin put together. It’s a free country right? But what a legacy. One, I’m sure you’re all very proud of.

I would also like to take the time to thank all those who work at the local Starbucks and Einstein’s Bagel shops located all around Las Vegas, Nevada. Those meeting places became my second home away from home while writing and editing this book. As of now, I owe them so much back rent, it became ridiculous when I added it all up, not to fail to acknowledge how I drank all their coffee, soda, and iced tea every day, while greatly diminishing their profits. If they had any business-sense at all, they’d lock the door when they saw me coming. I have to admit they both have excellent food. I was actually considering holding them responsible for my putting on so much weight over the years; you know; blame it on the other guy for the poor decisions, I make on a daily basis. But on second thought, I then remembered the back rent I owed them and called it even. (Only kidding). I see those active environments with all their mixed characters as conducive to a stimulated writing atmosphere. Furthermore, I would like to thank all the professors, instructors, and librarians, who took the time to teach this somewhat ignorant A.S.S. a thing or two about a thing or two, which certainly included the value of quietness, at least once, or twice.

I am also very grateful for those officers of the law, the servants the Lord used to correct me for my own good, no matter how painful the process became, or how long it took to straighten my wayward (ass) out. For in God’s eyes, my sanctification is paramount unto holiness.

(Heb. 12:10) For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may become partakers of His holiness.

Finally, I would like to thank the publishing crew of Xlibris. They did an awesome job on the book. That crew, includes, a very talented illustration artist who, in spite of the fact, that he was halfway across the United States and we had never met face to face, or had never spoken to one another on the phone, he still managed to crawl inside my head, enabling him to behold the crazy, yet, humorous ideas, the crazy insights that were floating around in there, just looking for a way to be expressed on paper. Does that mean the artist is just as crazy as I am? It does take one to know one, that’s for sure. It’s nice, to finally realize I’m not alone in this unusual endeavor, seeing, I view the condition we all share as The universal insanity Condition.

According to that condition, everyone is infected, but to what degree? Now, that’s the real question, isn’t it? Can you imagine being the guy or girl who invents the Degree-Finder; a unique device guaranteeing the purchaser would have adequate warning of another person’s potential for inspiring a derogatory statement like, What the (%#@?) way too often in their lives. Think of all the drama and pure (&^$@#^&*^%)! you could avoid with a $29.99 ‘Degree-Finder’ warning you first hand to avoid someone else’s craziness at all cost. You never know; your life and the lives of all your friends and family could depend on it. The least that could happen is that the crime rate could see a substantial decline in its substantial incline when the ‘Degree Finder’ is found on the job warning people away from potential trouble dressed in a (three-piece-suit), or a (tight-pink-dress).

THE NECESSARY FOUNDATION

How a believer in Jesus Christ manages to know and discern the supernatural leading of the Spirit of God as I do isn’t a well-kept secret. I think it’s more of a well-kept level of knowledge and discipline enacted through a faith that’s alive and growing in evidence and confidence through consistent Christian fellowship and Bible study, and a continuing education, no matter how old a person is.

This discipline is one where a person knows who to primarily-honor in life, and how and why to wisely humble themselves before that personality and ask for forgiveness, and direction, and strength, in the time of need and great challenge. The unusual part of this action, as it could be perceived by others, is that, the recipient of that prayer request is invisible to the naked eye, thereby calling into question the reasonableness of the practice itself by those who doubt the invisible personality referred to as ‘God’ really exists. Thus, in those circumstances, we have the atheist, or the agnostic. The individuals whose spiritual sensibilities have been smashed by the fall of mankind from a much higher form of life, and as a result, they lack the ability to see and hear God’s Spirit communicating with them, simply for two reasons, first, they are far removed from that past reality and doubt its existence when the subject comes up. Second, they were never born again from above supernaturally by the Spirit to begin with, in order to undo that extensive-spiritual-damage, which included extensive brain damage.

The (wholesale inability) of mankind to know for sure that God exists and what His name is, is the direct result of the fall of man from God’s previous favor and holy presence while living in the garden of Eden thousands and thousands of years ago. According to the book of Genesis, the Word of God walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the garden paradise daily, until the fall took place. The damage to all members of the human-race from that fall, and their subsequent banishment from the earthly paradise, was so extensive that, Mankind, in essence, lost its rightful-mind containing the high knowledge and spiritual-insight and understanding of how humanity came into existence, and what its original purpose was in the creation scenario.

The key to calling on the Almighty and having Him answer is, found, in knowing His real name. Would you answer when someone calls out someone else’s name? I wouldn’t waste my time. And realistically, neither would you, and neither would God. Plain and simple; it’s an insult to address the Lord in an improper manner. The testimony found in the Genesis account alone leaves us all without any excuse for failing to communicate with our creator appropriately, and according to His terms, not ours. (Quote by A.S.S. Jr.): "He’s not necessarily the God of my liking, (what I would prefer carnally); it’s more that, He’s the God of the unlikely, and that gives me great hope in any challenging situation I might face in life, especially death."

Caine’s brother Able was a realist like myself, he knew his relationship with God would require of him something that would really cost him, something he loved dearly, possibly a sweet little lamb that he raised from birth. He depended on the lamb and used its wool to make some clothes and blankets for the winter. But Caine remained stubborn about his offensive offerings to God, and chose to offer his creator a tossed salad instead. For the reason, that salad felt no pain when being tossed, or when Caine wacked-off the fresh head of lettuce with a sharp knife and it didn’t bleed to death, God was offended and rejected the offering out-right, causing Caine to be so greatly dismayed that his facial countenance, or light, fell dark. Caine, couldn’t hide the hatred and distain he felt for his brother Able, especially after God had accepted his offering of his first baby lamb and rejected Caine’s offering of a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers. God probably was being mindful of the time in the future when He would be forced to offer the blood of His own sacrificial-Lamb, in order to satisfy the demand of His own Mosiac law.

The perfect example of grace-filled communication from God to man is found in the conversation He had with Caine prior to his murdering his brother Able. Able must have visited Caine in his garden one day to see how he was getting along, only to find himself being, beaten to death with a rock or a hoe, for his caring thoughts. Before that scenario played out though, God knew Caine’s future, and went out of His way to cause him to think about his fallen condition, and the murderous rage it could fill him with. God attempted to warn Caine about the direction that fallen-carnal-condition would eventually lead him in his relationship with others. Caine made a serious mistake and refused to listen to what God said needed to be mastered in his inner-life, things like his thoughts and underlying emotions, especially anger. Proverbs says, "As a man thinks so is he."

This could be proof enough, that it really might not matter that we can hear from God at all, which communication would excite most people to no-end these days. But, in the real world it’s really what the Lord is saying to us, during that exciting time of supernatural communication, which could prove to make all the difference to us, seeing we have a stubborn evil-nature and might not like what God is saying at the time He says it, as was the case with the prophets Balaam, Jonah, and surprisingly Moses of the Old Testament era, to mention just a few. None of those famous Prophets would be alive, but for the grace of God, seeing they all rejected the Word of God, at least once, and by God’s grace lived to tell about it.

None of the prophets who heard God’s voice, more than once, in ancient times, or even today, always like and accept what the Lord says to them. Ask Abraham, if he liked what God said to him about Isaac becoming the next sacrifice for the altar. Or Jonah, about his being commanded to warn his archenemies of God’s coming judgment, because in truth, he only wanted them to die like dogs in the streets of Nineveh. Or myself, that I wanted to hear that my fourteen year marriage to my beautiful wife Marilyn would end, just as God revealed it would years before it actually happened. He told us that would happen while we were still together, and it bothered me deeply, and He used his Word to do it, thus making the entire prediction final.

Because God preordained it to happen, this is similar to what took place with Jesus on the cross, when God, in one moment of time, covered His Son with all the sins ever to be committed by the members of the human-race, and then turned His back on Him for the sheer ugliness and stench of it all. As a result, of that vicarious action, Jesus, momentarily, lost His former-divine-comprehension of why, He hung on the cross in the first place. He cried out: My God, My God, why have You forsaken me? Where was His previous understanding of His future separation from His Father’s holy presence, and what it would involve? Jesus, during the time of His ministry understood thoroughly that He was the Lamb of God that needed, to be slain for the sin of a lost world. These are things Christ consistently taught to others about Himself, but now forgets while hanging on the cross. Why is that?

Why didn’t He know the reason He was there, and why God His Father turned His back on Him that day? It’s because, Christ while obeying His Father in all things became sin for us, only to end up separating Him from His Father’s holy presence, resulting in a finite, physically limited, deficient form of mind setting in immediately. This condition is like un-regenerated-carnal-thinking all men are born with, although Jesus was not born with it, He inherited the condition when He bore the sin of the entire world’s population. The carnal-mind lacks spiritual understanding and insight into truth, and eventually leads to death for everyone.

I’m convinced that, this degenerative-condition is what made Jesus void of the understanding He previously held about His earthly-mission, which involved, His going to the cross as the anointed Messiah figure of Israel. He understood that clearly. If that statement isn’t true Christ would never have cried out and questioned His Father’s love while nailed on the cross and then died physically, for He wasn’t subject to death and its corrupting influence yet. That degenerative-process couldn’t take place until, He became sin in our behalf. Even the scourging Jesus went through, and the spikes driven through His hands and feet afterward should have killed Him, but, they didn’t. They couldn’t kill Him, until, He was worthy of death. And seeing Jesus was sinless, that was never going to happen naturally. It had to happen supernaturally.

The load of our sin, the Father dumped on Christ, at His own command, led to the gradual spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical-breakdown, and slow death, of the Son of God on every level of His being, and all on our behalf. Jesus had to suffer the full penalty of sin. He had to go through the process of dying, as we all do. His Father didn’t spare Him from any agony connected to dying, none whatsoever, not even a broken heart. And that applies to each person He died for. He died their death. What they deserved in the form of punishment Jesus received.

Overall, Christ had to justify the requirements of the Mosaic Law by taking their punishment, no matter how severe it was in each case. This is impossible for us to comprehend in the natural. Therefore, we must accept this form of justification required by God, as an act of faith on our part, by just plain believing it to be true, regardless that we don’t understand why it’s true.

Now, for the lack of not knowing for sure where they come from, and then on top of it, failing to comprehend their personal need for redemption, countless numbers of people are left roaming through life with no purpose or understanding of why they’re even here. I believe this could very well be the main-reason the suicide rate in America is skyrocketing, especially, for those who are between forty and fifty years old, seeing that, most people around that age are secure with working and investing and are ready to enjoy life to the fullest when they retire. Therefore what’s happening to change all that for so many, leaving them with little or no hope for the future? Now we contend with the so-called scientific-professionals, who now think they know so much that they want you to believe a convoluted-lie about Evolution and prove God exists, by presenting some form of empirical evidence. These days, it’s like trying to prove the existence of the sun to a race of men and women born blind because of faulty-genetics, genetics that left generation after generation of them born blind to the physical reality surrounding them.

(Eph. 2:3) Among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lust of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and mind, and were by nature children of wrath.

(Col. 1:21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled.

(Rom. 12:2) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Jesus addressed man’s natural inability to know God by teaching His disciples, that a person is by their nature in need of salvation and regeneration by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, and unless that transformation happens before they die, unless they’re born again, no matter how righteous they were while living, they can’t enter the Kingdom of God. There are few exceptions to that rule, and mostly relate to a child’s age of accountability. For God to allow a sinner to go to paradise without being regenerated by the Spirit of God and made holy, would be like adding toxic pollution to a perfect environment and not caring what it does to others living in that previously perfect and safe environment. In order for that desperately needed regeneration process to take place in a person’s life before they die, they must be born supernaturally from above by an invisible Living Word that has personality, and the Holy Spirit, who also has personality. They want to come into your life through the Spirit and introduce you to your Creator and possess you for your own good, and then reveal God’s purpose for you in life.

At the time Jesus taught these strange things, He was speaking to a man named Nicodemus, who all his adult life was religious while trying to keep the law of Moses, but in spite of all his efforts to get to know God and do what pleases Him, Nicodemus, a ruler in Israel, still didn’t know the Lord or forgiveness of sins personally, only to leave him feeling lost like any murderer would be who never repented. Because Jesus spoke as one having authority and not like the religious Pharisees or Sadducees, Nicodemus privately went to speak to Him during the nighttime while his religious friends were all sleeping. The new birth Jesus spoke about with Nicodemus enables an individual to receive a brand-new set of eyes and ears that operate on a different level of consciousness other than a human one. It’s a spiritual consciousness, a supernatural consciousness, by which, the new convert is then able to perceive the things freely given to them by God through priceless promises found in the gospel message of Christ.

(Rev. 2:7) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. ‘To him who overcomes, I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

(John 8:47) He that is of God hears God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

(John 10:27) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

In chapter 2 and 3 of the book of Revelation, Jesus repeats the same statement six times to believers. To him who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches. He said this to emphasize the point, that the ability to see and hear the Spirit of God moving and speaking doesn’t come naturally; it comes supernaturally with assistance and grows over time with the increase of the mind of Christ through studying
