About this ebook

This is a book that you can read in one sitting. In fact, you will not put it down in hurry. Ms. Redferns wisdom throughout her writings is clearly evidenced in the table of contents. However, the listing of each chapter offers the readers insights into what we cannot see within our children.

The authors insight is well defined in the first article, Outside vs. Inside, in the contrast between the five senses on the outside with the place or space within our children, where an affirmation of them as a person will forever need nurturing within their academic journey.

The Acclamations speak volumes from the minds and experiences with children who have crossed their paths as educators, caregivers, or parents.

A Childs Expectations, written in the first person, capsulates the entire message within the entire book in a quick glance of what will be read.

    About the Author

    Dedication

I dedicate the contents of this book in loving memory of my dear friend Elizabeth Marie Watton, who listened to every word in every chapter as it was written. She lived out her own dedicated teaching career in guiding her special needs students to recognize that they were special to her and therefore very special within themselves.

I also recognize within the contents of the articles those whose lives are intricately woven within the life patterns of children/students within their care, parents, teachers, caretakers, guardians, and other involved adults.

I invite the readers to peruse the following published articles, all dealing with the well-being, happiness, and success of children/students. Perhaps we can focus on each value as the accompanied stressed message within each article’s concept. Come read with me!

The following articles appeared in the Melrose Free Press, the Malden Observer, and the Malden Magazine.

Miss Redfern’s love and compassion for family and children will never end. After teaching for so many years, we might think her retirement would be a good-bye, but it’s not; instead she continues to guide parents with her great ideas. As a mother, I never realized there was a difference when you say to a child, You can do it and I believe you can do it. In Miss Redfern’s book, I learned that when you say, I believe you can do it, that makes a huge difference. It gives the child a much stronger desire to try things, and after they accomplish whatever they were trying to do, they feel so happy and make the parent feel proud too. I want to say thank you to Miss Redfern.

In Pausing for Parental Perusal, Margaret Redfern models ways of looking at children with love, compassion, and respect for the freedom and rights of the child by sharing with the reader many wisdom-packed stories unique to her years of teaching young children. Her nurturing ways of carefully opening the gift of the child to the child’s unique individual gifts helps the child to experience joy and appreciation in learning and growing and love and respect for her/himself and others. This book is a great resource not only for parents, teachers, and substitute teachers but for anyone who cares for children or about children.

Don’t let the title, Pausing for Parental Perusal, mislead you into thinking that this book is only for parents. I especially recommend this book to anyone who was born into a family structure without nurture. Redfern shows how to put into action love, respect, and compassion for the parent and child in all of us. Indeed, it is a powerful work of hope and joy.

Susan A. Rotondi, MA, pastoral minister, spiritual director

Writing with straight honesty and deepest sincerity, Margaret Redfern speaks with a message that is simple and satisfying, yet dynamic and challenging. Even if you
