    About the Author

    Dedication

My gratitude goes to two creative geniuses I've been blessed to have in my life. First and foremost is Daniella Cracknell, founder and CEO of Leonard George. Without Daniella, I would not be where I am today. She has the uncanny ability to reach into your soul, unleash your essence, and transform it so that everyone can know, hear, and see that you are the best in your field, bar none. She is my reputation builder supreme. Daniella put me on the map as EXPERT on THE ASK © and has taken me from good to exceptional, with no stops in between. I cherish her to bits!

Second is Alan Winters, COO of ProActive Health. Alan is a master at finding talent, combining it with his passion for great health, and weaving it to perfection by using his years of television production craftsmanship. His belief in me---the dynamo, as he calls me---does not get any better. His vision, combined with that of Daniella, has helped me create Money Wellness for this book series and for everything to follow. Stay tuned, as they say; there will be more to come!

    Foreword

The goal of my health practice is to improve my patients' lives from all angles because my purpose is not just to manage their illnesses but to guide them in the creation of their own health and well-being. Through my patients, I have experienced how stress and worry about money can have a tremendously negative impact on health; it can actually be the source of illness.

Laura takes that deep dive to uncover the underlying connection between stress and money and how it affects sleep, diet, and exercise. She also brings to the forefront a major health issue: how many people postpone their own health care because they fear they cannot afford it. She gives insights and ways to work out money stress in everyday situations in order to live healthy, product lives.

Laura does a phenomenal job in presenting to the reader a holistic approach to health through emotional, physical, and financial balance. After all, what could be more important than your health and your investment in Money Wellness?

    ---Bernadette Anderson, MD, MPH

    Preface

Money. It is one of the most emotionally charged words on the planet. This one simple word can conjure up deep-seated feelings and emotions about how you were raised. How will you get money? What will you do with it? Will you ever have enough of it to be happy and satisfied?

Wellness. It is often thought of as something offered by the workplace, such as a wellness program for people to exercise more often, eat the right foods, and have more balanced professional and personal lives.

Combine the two and you get Money Wellness. What is it? What will it do? Why is it important?

Money Wellness is the awareness that every decision you make in life involves money, which causes stress that affects your health in a very big way. Your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes about money, as well as the everyday decisions you make about money, affect your sleep, diet, and exercise. In fact, they affect every aspect of your life: relationships, travel, education, parenting, fashion, real estate, charity, financial security, retirement, fun, success, and creativity.

Many people think Money Wellness means having a lot of money and being able to do anything at any time---worry free. Money Wellness, however, is defined by health, not wealth. It is the sum total of everything that goes with being financially, emotionally, and physically sound; it is the balanced, holistic integration of financial, emotional, and physical health. To have Money Wellness means having adequate cash flow, sufficient assets, the absence of illness, and the presence of emotional well-being.

Having Money Wellness will allow you to work out your Money Blockers---those thoughts about money that prevent you from having your best relationship with money. Here are some examples of Money Blocker thoughts:

Maybe my debt will be taken care of later.
