About this ebook

Far from the tumult in Jerusalem, perched high up in the mountains of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples two very important question.

Who do men say that I am?

Who do you say that I am?

The conversation ended that day with a declaration from the itinerant rabbi that He was going to build a Church upon a rock that would be so powerful that not even the gates of hell would be able to withstand it.

Two thousand years later, the Church is coming under attack from every side imaginable and the term Christian is a four-letter word in many circles. This book serves to remind its readers that the Church Jesus promised Peter He was going to build is unstoppable and unbeatable. With the roar of the serpent crushing Lion of Judah, the Church will soon lay aside the remaining vestiges of Adams rebellion in the garden, and emerge from this sin cursed planet, unshackled, unbroken, and triumphant.

Do you know the man that Peter correctly referred to as the Christ, the Son of the Living God? Have you placed your faith in the immovable Rock of the Bible or are you trusting in the shifting sands of an ever-changing culture? There is only one Rock big enough, strong enough, and secure enough to assure victory when the dust settles and the Lions roar is heard from the cobble stone streets of Jerusalem to the far-flung corners of the globe.

Will you be able to stand?

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I am so very grateful to those people in my life who pointed me to the cross. I wish to thank the late Will T. Creasy for being my pastor and mentor. His ministry was invaluable and his counsel, priceless. I would also like to thank the members of Pleasant Ridge Church for putting up with me for the past twenty-two years. Without their support and prayers, this book would not have been possible.

    INTRODUCTION

When I was an eight-year-old boy, I came running into the house one afternoon, flinging open the screen door and headed toward the kitchen just like I had done every day before. Just before making the step down from the den into the kitchen, I froze, unable to move. As I write this book, I am forty-two years old, and I can remember that day as if it had just happened. There I was, in the doorway as my grandmother stood at the sink, washing dishes. Tears were flowing down her face, and her voice was cracking as she began to sing the second verse of What a Day that Will Be. As she continued to wash and dry dishes, her voice rang out over that kitchen. There will be no sorrow there, no more burdens to bear, no sickness, no more pain, no more parting over there. But forever I will be with the one who died for me, what a day, glorious day that will be.¹ The truth of the gospel of Christ was ignited in my soul for I knew in that moment everything I had heard about Jesus in Sunday school was true.

God was the farthest thing from this little boy’s mind that day. I was just trying to get to the refrigerator. I wasn’t thinking about God, the Bible, or my eternal destination. All I wanted was food and a Coke. But the atmosphere in the room caused me to forget about all that. For the first time in my life, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was real, and He and my granny were friends. Not too many days after that I gave my heart to the Lord and was born again. The spark that ignited in my soul that day continues to burn within me. I want everyone to meet the same Jesus that caused a little boy to forget about his snack and Coke. I want them to fall in love with my grandmother’s Rock.

A lot has changed since that day in Granny’s kitchen. I am no longer a little boy but a pastor for some twenty-two years now. The world that seemed so simple to me back then has
