INTRODUCTION
Life journey is like the roads in our societies. One road leads to another. There are junctions and crossroads that require every user to proceed gently in order to prevent collision. The road differs in certain areas. Some parts are flat and smooth allowing quick movement while others are steep, rough and curvy requiring users to slow down. In order for a driver to have a successful climb, he must use the proper gear otherwise such vehicle will roll down the hill. The brakes of such vehicle must be in good condition to help the driver climb successfully and take caution when necessary.
The way to a man’s breakthrough is not always smooth but sometimes demanding and rough. It is usually challenging. It takes dedication and commitment with God’s grace to keep moving forward without stopping. Sometimes, God allows some problems in our life to move us to His will and the breakthrough we desire. Such problems, trials or difficulties can lead us to the right place or person through whom our breakthrough will come. These challenges do not allow us to settle where the blessings of God cannot be received. Thus, God uses problems and trials to move us toward his will. God’s thoughts for us are not evil, they are pure and peaceful, to give us the desired goal and success.
Until we get to the place designed by God for our breakthrough, there will always be a re-occurrence of problems and trials. Example is Isaac in the Bible who after the death of his father wanted to go down to Egypt in order to escape the famine. To test his obedience, God instructed him to go to Gerar in the land of the Philistines; the same place his father, Abraham lived (Genesis chapter 20). He obeyed God and God prospered him. He had bountiful harvest in agriculture. Isaac’s prosperity attracted the Philistines and they envied him. They asked him to move away because he was too powerful (Genesis 26:16). As Isaac migrated to where his father once lived, he reopened his father’s wells. He had dispute over water with the local Philistine herdsmen. Isaac relocated again and again until he got to Beersheba where God appeared unto him to confirm his initial promises at his first appearance. Isaac obeyed God not to go down to Egypt. He was blessed in the midst of his enemies because he endured the hardship of migrating from place to place.
Obedience to God and his words in difficult times is important. Isaac encountered much difficulties yet he continued to move forward and to dig more wells. Never be tired of making positive attempts until you have your breakthrough. Failures, hardship, delay, and disappointments sometimes precede breakthrough and success. If discouragement is allowed in your life, your breakthrough may be delayed or denied. Your effort will determine the level of your breakthrough. When there are trials and challenges, there will always be a way to overcome. Endure and don’t stop at a place where the presence and the power of God cannot locate you. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end
. (Jeremiah 29: 11).
It takes endurance, dedication and persistence to continue in such journey of life. Faith in the unfailing power of God will lead you to the green pastures. Do not commit suicide and do not kill another person. Faith in God’s word and ability will energize you to continue and it will offer you a lasting solution. Behind the cross is the crown; behind the mountain is the valley. Just a little step at a time gets you to your victory, success and the breakthrough. After the dawn is the day; but the dark hours of your life can make you to give up the hope of a new day. A new day arises as you keep on hoping in God, your Maker. Don’t stop your journey of life on the way. Go ahead slowly and steadily enduring the troubles without allowing the load of such burden to depress you. Be steady in your approach to solving such problems. Surely, you will win the race just like the athletes do.
Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Elisha and the children of Israel in the Bible, did not stop at where they had challenges. They did not give in to resentment and self pity even when the people and the situations around them tended to discourage and frustrate them. These men proceeded forward in order to achieve their goals. They endured their hardships and continued to pursue their visions until they got to the place allotted to them by God for their breakthrough. The names they gave to such places where they had negative encounters served as memorial unto them so that they would not forget the struggle before their breakthrough. Isaac called the places where the wells his servants dug were taken away from them the following names: Esek
meaning contention. Sitnah
meaning hatred. Rehoboth
that is room. He later moved to the last place where he built an altar unto God. He called it Beersheba
which means the well of oath. Here God appeared unto him and blessed him.
The children of Israel encountered the Red Sea where they moved on dry ground. Pharaoh and his chariots were drowned into the same sea. They
