Dont try to fit in where you are destined to stand out!
Dr. Betty M. Knight
Dr. Betty Knight was aware of her potential in the spring of 2007, when she stepped onto the grounds of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. She was also aware of what she was facing during this time in history, which was a commitment to bring out the best in CSUDH. Her academic investment was giving her the liberty to be authentic and connect to the necessity to learn. This objective could be met through embracing a deeper level of observation that provided her with the tools needed to become a builder. Having an assurance of what she does will make a difference motivated her to cross over the lane of superficiality and the gap of uncertainty and to take a giant leap to ask the right questions, knowing her time has come. Not being accepted in the university of her choice , not having a car, finances, age, using an out dated computer, and having a surmountable case of lack; are just a few of the barriers that stared her in the face when she returned to college. However, she knew that she had to rebuild her future through education. Dr. Knight achieved her own goal by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in one calendar year and then a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Post Master's Certificate: Conflict Analysis and Resolution, a PhD in Ministry and a Master’s in Leadership Development. Dr. Knight earned these five degrees in seven years by following the steps defined, demonstrated, and duplicated in this book while maintaining a 3.325 to 4.000 GPA throughout her academic career.

19177.pngPROLOGUE
"You don’t need to be bright to be a scientist;
you just need to be persistent as hell."
-D. Herschbach, Nobel Peace Prize winner
Awareness—means to have knowledge or discernment of something. Since the mind is a terrible thing to waste take this moment to integrate your memory and your imagination into your learning experience. Remember your memory will replay your past; however, your imagination has the ability to rehearse your future. Don’t reach your future and recognize that you misused the depth of your potential by not showing up for rehearsal. I wrote this book on behalf of the men and women returning to or just starting their academic career. Furthermore, my desire in writing this book is take from my academic experiences, gathering nuggets to build on the many experts, scholars, and no named geniuses insights and store it all in one book. I was dedicated in completing my goals, and now I am dedicated in assisting you into doing the correct things in obtaining your degree without the pitfalls, detours, and roadblocks that I faced. This crash course is to help you to know or become aware of what questions to ask without going through the academic process making the same mistakes. I know because I did just that. For example, feedback provides self-awareness and it motivates the individual that is ready to produce better results. I needed to produce better results on so many levels returning back to college after 23 years, I was counting on the professors to give me feedback, but not all of them did. I am mentioning this so that you can start the process early, asking your professors for it, because feedback is that beneficial piece in developing your skill set—that which highlights your abilities, strengths as well as weakness’. Feedback is a vital part of the learning process. Furthermore, feedback can help you learn how to develop your work as well as make appropriate adjustments on your performance—use feedback as a measuring tool to become much more effective. Additionally, my pain can be your gain in that I help you by sharing my experiences from my mistakes to my masterpiece.
I don’t want anyone to think that being successful is an isolated case; and it can foster the wrong impression that people that earn degrees are special—that is why I decided to write the play book
(Being Mary Jane, 2015). Enjoy this academic experience as much as possible. Most importantly commitment is the key to fulfilling your greatest dreams. Great things will not come to pass when there is no commitment. First, familiarize yourself with the checklist guidelines in step one, because at the end of each step are guidelines that can help you develop excellent skills to make this a memorable and valuable experience. Second, commit to this academic achievement. There are many reasons as to why you have decided to return to school—as it may begin a legacy for your children and your children’s children.
A degree can meet several needs, however, it can be challenging if you have never thought about the principles that I detail in this book. Now that you have enrolled in your classes, consider the facts and review this academic decision very carefully … Commit. Now that you have discussed the program and are aware how much this fits your academic needs … Commit. You have made an awesome choice to go or return back to school. You will be that voice of reason, a mother or father figure. Whatever you do, don’t let this generation down … Commit. This book is also for the seasoned brain that is not looking for a career per se, but a contract. This book is also for that seasoned person who is already trained, has the experience and knows what to do; furthering your education with a degree or certificate is needed to place emphasis on skills and highlight you as the most sought after candidate for the job. Wait patiently; a situation will permit your time to shine. I waited, and my light shined in such a way that all of my children returned back to a higher learning institution. That testimony was one of my greatest influences I witnessed, when I inspired them to go to college. Experts argue that no one can write a single book that deals with all of what starting or returning to college entails—but I believe this book can make the reader aware of the broader possibilities they can explore.
I saw all of my children return to their passion because they witness my accomplishments after enrolling in 25 units. As I reflect, I wished and even prayed that they would go to college; you have the opportunity to be the defining factor in others decision; rethink what you never thought possible. You are now in a place in your life to make something wonderful happen concerning everyone around you … Commit.
What I’m sharing with you happened only because I made wise choices and learned that my commitment to my academic experience answered questions that I did not know were being asked. After achieving five degrees, about 6 1/2 years later I can truly testify that this was a great decision.
You can do it

God is secure with your relationship: Returning to a Secular School Setting
To my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ:
I think I should break down this wall of thinking If you are ashamed to own me before man I will be ashamed to own you before my father.
This section is for anyone who has a combination of uncertainties and high hopes about how to reach your academic goals.
I felt that my way of dealing with this is undeniably different. The constant growth was noticeably structuring in me new capacities of leadership, and His presence obligated me to investigate His investment in me.
This journey that you are about to take can be a lot easier if you realize now that this experience is an academic experience and not so much a spiritual one. Having a proper understanding of this academic experience can leave your revelations and interpretations intact and unshaken. Approach this process with an open mind, knowing that it’s okay to read and reference articles and journals and to use Google.
God is not looking for you to defend your beliefs. He is looking at your depth so that you can grow in a way that is not possible in a Christian environment.
