About this ebook
Chloe Jays
Chloe Jays’ parents separated when she was two years old. She never knew of her dad for she went with her Mother when she was two. Chloe faced much hardship when she was growing up, and at the age of five, she was all grown-up, and her mum could leave with her other siblings for her to look after them. She learnt how to depend on herself due to the life she went through. She experienced so much abuse as a child, where family members did all kinds of abuse to her, including her mum as well. Her mum did not care about her. She had an aunt who practiced child molestation on Chloe, and the mum’s half-brother sexually abused her. She grew up in a very hostile family. Before she went away with her mum, her dad was a teacher, as well as her mum. Her mum left her job as a teacher and became a full-time housewife. So when her mum left her dad, she had no job. Sometimes, Chloe used to blame herself, thinking that it was her fault that their parents divorced, and that’s why everyone hated her. Chloe became a very hard-working child, and she did almost everything in her home. Chloe loved education, and therefore, when she reached the age of going to school, she quickly settled down in school.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My book is based on a true story. I was motivated to write this book to help the reader understand that determination leads one to success. The obstacles we experience in our lives cannot stop us from getting what we want. The girl called Chloe lived through hell on earth, but that did not make her give up on life. She had a very high faith, and the worse that things seemed to be for her, the more she was motivated to build her life so that she would never live in such a situation again. Chloe’s determination is to see that her children would never live the life she had. Chloe stayed focused at the time, and she never ran away from those who were hostile to her. Her life is a great testimony for those who saw her growing up, including her grandmother, her family, and the villagers where she grew up. She completely transformed her life. She had such a high spirit that she knew that no lion could frighten her. She believed she would give a good fight, because she knew it was her right to have happiness at last.
This book can help readers have courage to face life under whatever circumstances. I came to understand that many people blame themselves because of wicked people who try to make themselves happy by doing evil things and abusing others. There are people who are losers in life, and they want everyone to be where they are. This book is to help readers know that these kinds of bad guys can never be satisfied, whether they are rich or poor.
Never give up. Chloe did not give up. She was such a great example to her school, including her fellow students who bullied her because of her poverty. Poverty is unjust, and it can fall on any man at any time.
Chapter One
For a long time I have been carrying bitterness within myself due to the life I lived with my parents and family. For forty years I have hated everyone who abused me, even after I made it in life. Even after becoming successful with my life, I couldn’t let this bitterness go. Even when some of the people involved with my life died, I continued to be filled with hatred, which grew every day; I could not enjoy my life.
Now, I have come to my senses to share my feelings with the world, especially to help those who have been through similar situations and still focus on their bad experiences. As it is said, a problem shared is not a problem anymore. I decided to write my book and entitled it Time to Let It Go. I want to help everyone who reads it to know that no matter what you are going through, you can make it.
Chapter Two
I am currently living in a foreign country with my husband and our four children. It might seem crazy but I am living my own fairy tale, my own slice of happiness. To me, this is perfect. Looking back on my life, I would say the hell that I went through, the physical and mental abuse as a child defined the person I am now, as you will find as my story unfolds.
My parents were both teachers. My mother worked as a primary school teacher and my father a high school teacher before their marriage. My mum left her job after their marriage and settled as a housewife. My dad provided for the daily living. My dad built a house close to his family and after a year, he moved his family there. They shared the same compound with my dad’s family. My dad and mum were a well-up young family at the time, and they were happy. In the early 1960s, being well educated and well-up meant having a well-built brick house with an iron-sheet roof.
My parent’s relationship started changing when my mum developed health problems. She was always in and out of hospital which also led to two miscarriages. My dad’s older brother did not get along with my mum. He started causing problems between Mum and Dad. This played a part in their eventual divorce. I was two years old when they separated. So, I don’t remember much about the relationship between my mum and dad. All I know is what my mum used to tell me.
My mum told me that my dad loved her so much that it caused his brother to feel jealous of their relationship. That led to my uncle creating problems and telling lies about mum. This happened because my dad worked far away from home and came on the weekends. When he came home, his brother told him lies about my mum. His brother prepared the traditional brew during the weekend, knowing that my dad would be coming home. So, while they were having the traditional brew, he fed my dad with lies about mum behind her back.
One weekend morning, my dad asked mum to prepare a larger dinner because he had asked her parents to come. Dad did not tell my mum why he had asked her parent to come. She thought nothing was wrong; maybe he simply wanted to meet and have a good time with his parents-in-law.
Apart from inviting his in-law parents, he also invited one of his friends, a close friend to my mum’s family and my dad’s colleague.
My mum overheard his friend asking, Have you told Tabi about all this?
My dad responded, If I tell her, it will kill her, because she has done nothing to deserve all this.
My mum wondered what that was all about. All this happened behind my mum’s back. I still feel so bad about how she was treated. I am in tears while writing this. It is a bad memory for me.
My mum’s parents came, but what they witnessed blew up their minds. They couldn’t believe what came next. After having a good time at the dinner, my dad said, I called you here to return your daughter. I don’t want her anymore.
Imagine having to hear this out of the blue – no talking, no discussion, and no reconciliation.
My mother was left by her father when she was seven years old, and as the oldest child in a family of five kids, her dad leaving wasn’t easy for her. My mother’s dad was an agricultural teacher. He cheated on my grandmother with another woman and was suspended from teaching. My country at that time was under the colonial government. Polygamy and adultery were a big offense for the officers working for the colonial government. Therefore, my mum’s dad left and moved to a neighbouring country to look for job opportunities.
So, my mother grew up with many problems. My mum’s dad had left them at the school where he was teaching. My mother’s uncle (her dad’s brother) took them from the school and built a home for them. My grandma had five more children with her husband’s brother and brought up his brother’s kids as his own.
Mum thought she had built her life after a long struggle with her mother, (my grandmother).
When you think you have it all in place, someone can come and take it away from you.
When my mother’s parents heard that
