Introduction
I am a mother of three. All girls, a baby of two years, one eleven and one thirteen and they are all worlds apart. Each one so different, which makes adapting to each child a little more difficult.
Treating each child different depending on what is best for them is very important although keeping things fair is just as important and it can be tough. What one needs mentally the other may not, and depending on how you deal with the situation it could be seen as favoritism. So spreading yourself fairly and evenly can be difficult.
My first child was full on and needed a lot of attention. My second was much more quiet and to herself and just accepted that I had to be more available to her sister and in the last twelve months she changed again to be a bit more full on. Dramertising, screaming and fighting more with her older sister. This can be quite a test! My third is still so young and just hitting the dreaded terrible tows. That in its self is interesting and difficult as it is totally different for all children at this stage of life.
Every day I have to re-adapt because every day is so different. Children grow so quickly and change all the time and just when you think you have it down pat it changes again, bit of a roller coaster really and if you’re not careful you can end up going around in a negative circle and that is no good for anyone. Unfortunately children are easily adaptive, which makes it simple for them to take on negativity as a somewhat reward. Children love and crave attention so they often do something that they know they will get in trouble for just to get attention, so it’s really important to make sure that you even the playing field and make sure there is a lot of positive attention in their lives. Basically don’t forget to notice even the smallest of things they do.
Children don’t come with instruction manuals, that’s why whatever information you can get from others you should take it and use what works for you. It’s the best help you can get. I feel the best information about children is not from someone whom got their knowledge from a book or a tutor but from being a parent themselves and from the obvious your children! You’re children teaching you most of the stuff you need to know as a parent. You can’t beat that! So don’t stop listening to them! I am just like you, a parent, adapting to my children. The best thing for you to do as a parent is to listen, to other parents and your children because you won’t
