First as always I want to thank God for being in my life and the acknowledgement of him and his Glory. Thanks to my family, my awesome father and mother Robert Andrews Sr. and Janette Andrews who have always been in my life. I also want to thank my big brother Earl and my little brother Michael and a special thanks to my baby brother Jerry Lee Andrews without him and God I would of never been able to get any of my books published and fulfill my goal in life to write, Thanks Jerry. I like to thank my little sister who I argue with all the time but who I love so much. And I have so many other family members and a whole lot of friends that it would take an other book to mention them all. I need to thank my Uncle Morrow L. Monroe who I never met but who played a part in completing these books. Last but not in the least I have to thank my Hubby Robert Lee Rucker for having my back and after thirty years, still by my side, love you Rucker. Thank you all for reading my books and pushing me and helping me live out my dream. Love you all Jar.

A BLACK REALITY
Help me!
Help me!
Nicky screamed as she woke up to find herself sinking in the cold dark river. Nicky was trying hard to get to the surface of the river but being never taught how to swim this was a losing battle and Nicky knew it. But what she didn’t know is how she got there as she kept sinking lower and how the water was now filling her lungs and her air had almost ran out. Nicky finally closed her eyes knowing that all her life she didn’t make a difference, too scared to live too scared to love and missing all the opportunities she didn’t go after because of her fear. Nicky was now a twenty years old dark chocolate complexion young woman with a short little fro and a shapely body that a lot of people couldn’t tell by her choice of clothes. Nicky had big brown eyes that sparkle when she was happy but that wasn’t much giving the life she had. Nicky never went to a prom or got married or had any children she never even had a boyfriend or a man never experiencing the joys of being a woman. Nicky’s life was lonely and sad and often terrorizing, she wanted to live a better life but she was too scared of what people might say or do. Nicky could have been and done anything she wanted to but her mind and heart was programmed for defeat and she tried at times to change her life but she wasn’t strong enough. So now she thought all was lost and her life meant nothing to no one not even herself, so this was a fitting way to die, alone. Nicky said goodbye to her life and faded off ready for the end and as the last bit of air crept out of her, the sadness of Nicky’s life started to enfold to her.
As far back as Nicky could remember she found herself in church sitting on her daddy’s lap. Clarence Woods was a dark handsome strong black man but now was holding his daughter in tears. This day was the only time Nicky ever saw her daddy like this and it was tearing her up. Clarence was the one to always wipe her tears and he was a good father who took care of her and loved her and she loved him so seeing him so broken like that was almost unbearable. Daddy stop crying it’s okay!
Nicky cried as she sat on his lap and wiped his tears that were so heavy that it had her little head soaked. Nicky hugged her daddy and patted his back like he would do to her to stop him from crying but it wasn’t working. Nicky was hurting seeing her daddy like this and wondered why he was so sad and then she followed his eyes and she could see. Mommy!
Nicky yelled as she saw her mama laid in this beautiful box with flowers all around and laying right at the front of the altar. Nicky lunged for her mama with her arms stretched out but Clarence held his daughter trying to shield her from the pain. Mommy, mommy get up daddy needs you!
Nicky cried and with that Clarence started to breakdown even more seeing the two people he loved the most in the world in a place where with all his strength he couldn’t help. Daddy go wake mommy up she’s sleeping.
Nicky cried. I can’t baby.
Clarence replied sadly. No daddy you can do anything!
Nicky said with conviction believing this to be true. Clarence looked down at his baby girl and held her and said. Mommy is in God’s hands now.
Nicky didn’t understand what her daddy said and before didn’t know why her mommy hadn’t come home. All Nicky knew was her mommy had left and not came home and how her daddy was always so sad and it was not the happy home they use to have.
Clarence story starts off when he was brought up in an orphanage in Los Angeles California where he never knew his parents or if he had any brothers or sisters. So when Clarence grew up and got out in life after living from home to home he knew he wasn’t going to be poor all the rest of his life. Clarence was smart and he had skills so he finished school then went to college and got a degree in business but finding a job was hard. A lot of people in the music field saw him as a challenge because of his business savvy and wouldn’t hire him so he took on odd jobs so he could eat. Clarence was truly smart he couldn’t get in the music companies by the front door so he went through the back door and got a job as a janitor at a top management company. Clarence would ease drop and hear how the executives would make deals and how they were always looking for new talent. Clarence overheard some of the shady deals and how some of the artists got took for granted and used. The head executive and CEO Mr. Will Grant was a small light skin man who demanded respect from everyone. Mr. Grant was rich successful and he had a family and also a mistress that would come to the company and slip into his office for a few hours. The other business men working there wouldn’t even talk to Clarence and if they did, they would talk down to him. On one occasion when Clarence was mopping the floor an executive said Look we still got slaves!
and laughed with the other men and Clarence was so ashamed. Clarence would see some of the shady and dirty deals and how some of the artists was so broke and riding in cheap cars and barely had a roof over their heads and it disgusted him. Clarence wanted to do better and to be respected for the good fair job he would do, not just because he was rich and powerful. But unfortunately now Clarence was broke so he had to work and after a year of working there and seeing it all he was now living in a cheap apartment, but he was saving all his money. There was no fancy car or fancy high priced clothes there was no expensive dinners because one, the company didn’t pay very well even with the money they were taking in.
Look Linda they took in one million dollars last year and still paying us peanuts!
Clarence angrily told Linda Maxey another janitor at the company. Linda was twenty one years old with light skin and on the plump size but cute under her ponytail and no makeup. Linda had three kids, one and three and a four year old and a man at the house to take care of and she also had another hidden talent. One day Clarence was in the building cleaning and he heard a voice blowing over the radio and he looked around the corner and it was Linda singing her heart out. Linda had a beautiful high strong voice and she hit notes that professional singers would be proud of. Linda, girl you can sing like that, why are you cleaning up when you should be on some contract making millions!
Clarence said excited. No that’s not for me I’m a closet and shower singer.
She laughed. What a waste.
Clarence thought. Clarence you better not let them catch you going through their garbage, looking at their business.
Linda replied concerned. They won’t, but this is how I learn.
He responded. Well I hope you don’t learn none of their bad deals these people are dirt bags.
She said. Yes just like that dirt bag that put that bruise over your eye Linda, yes I see it.
Clarence told her.
Linda was embarrassed she had been working with Clarence for a year now and they had built a bond as friends and they were both on grave yard shift so they would have lunch together and talk. Linda felt at ease and she would open up to Clarence about how come she would come to work so tired and bruised up. After working all night Linda would have to go home to clean the house and cook the dinner and take care of the kids that would be up while her man Terrell would sleep all morning saying he was tired from taking care of the kids all night. Then Terrell would get up around two pm then sex Linda and eat his dinner and then leave and sometimes wouldn’t be back to watch the kids and Linda would either miss work or bring her kids to work with her and hide them. Clarence I don’t want to talk about this.
Linda said sadly. I know you don’t but you are my friend and I hate to see any man beating on a woman.
It’s okay I’ll be alright.
She said. It’s not okay and you won’t be alright and what about your kids you don’t want them to see you getting beat up on, what do you think it’s going to do to them?
Clarence asked. I’ll work it out Clarence just stop it!
Linda yelled. No Linda this has to be said you know that monster is on drugs.
Linda wasn’t stupid she knew because of how Terrell would keep stealing her money, even the rent money and she was about to get evicted again with her kids. Why can’t that dude work he can do the same job as us but he’s too good to clean up and make some money to take care of his family!
Clarence said upset. Stop talking about my man, it’s none of your business!
Linda shouted at him. Clarence just walked away feeling like he had stepped into Linda’s business too far and hurt her feelings because she knew her problems but didn’t need her friend to bring them up. The next few days it was very cold between Clarence and Linda at the job. Clarence felt like he had lost more than a friend but like a sister and he cared about her and hated her boyfriend who would give Clarence dirty mean stares and which Clarence would give him the same back. Clarence watched how Terrell would sometimes drop Linda off at work but sometimes wouldn’t pick her back up. And there were times Terrell would come down to the job and get Linda’s check before she could even get home. Terrell was a crack addict and he was wrecking Linda’s life, that was a nightmare and she didn’t know how to wake up from it. Linda didn’t know how to get out this horrible life she was in or if she wanted to, thinking that she deserved this horror for running away from a loving home her parents gave her, trying to be fast and like she knew everything, like she was grown but she got caught by Terrell and he was turning her life into a living hell.
Chapter Two
NEW BREED
Time went on and one morning as Clarence was outside emptying the garbage he saw this young teenager and these two people that looked like his mom and dad come into the building and all the executives was rushing them up to the top floor. Clarence found out the young man’s name was Carlos Black a new up and coming singer that was eighteen years old and was taking the town by storm. All the labels were trying to get this young man for their label and Carlos and his parents was told to get a management team to help him get a fair deal. Carlos and his parents were taken up to Mr. Grant’s office and all the executives were there hungry for this deal. Clarence being noisy wanted to hear what they were saying so he listened outside the door and he was unimpressed. Carlos was saying how he wanted mad money and have fun and party and meet girls, he was being honest but young. Mrs. Black wasn’t happy how some of the executives smiled and nodded their heads in agreement and was boosting up Carlos by telling him he was going to be a big star and have everything he wanted if he just signed the contract. Carlos immediately said yes but his parents said they wanted to read it over and think about it. Mr. Grant not liking people to second guess his deals told the family that if Carlos wasn’t managed right he could maybe one day sink to a level as a janitor taking out the trash like the young fellow they have. Clarence was crushed how he listened to Mr. Grant belittle him, he was so upset he walked away to the locker room and saw Linda who turned her head not wanting to be lectured about her life but she saw the sad look on Clarence’s face.
What’s wrong?
She asked him. Nothing.
He responded upset. No way, I know you better than that.
I thought you didn’t want me to talk to you and for me to stay out your business, so stay out of mine!
Clarence shouted. I am talking to you now and I was wrong, you are my friend and I know you don’t have anybody else to go to, so even though I’m a mess myself, here I am and I am sorry.
Linda told him. Me too, I was just ease dropping and heard Mr. Grant making a deal with this young kid and he told him to take it and make sure that he didn’t have to end up taking out the trash like me.
Clarence said ashamed. Oh that’s a low blow.
She replied. Yes it was.
"At least you aint out there stealing, this is honest money
