    CHAPTER 1

    Life Choices

It was a nice sunny day as James Mills sat in his old rocking chair outside in his front yard reflecting on his life all sixty-five years; he had just made retirement after working thirty years at the factory. James was a slightly plumb man with gray bolding hair he was medium height and had a loving wife of over forty years; her name was Martha she was a caramel skin medium frame, slightly gray hair woman. Martha had diabetes and was slowly losing her eye sight, but that didn’t stop her from trying to cook, clean and her favorite pass time playing the piano, she was a real trooper and James loved her. Martha was the mother of their Church and James was the head deacon. They lived in a two story, three bedroom house that James worked hard for in the small country town in Texas they lived in; they were loved by all the people that knew them. James only regret was how his only daughter Jackie turned out. Jackie was a beautiful woman of thirty years of age medium frame caramel skin like her mother, long thick black hair, that fell past her shoulders, she had big brown eyes, nice white teeth, she could have been a model, but at sixteen years of age she fell in love with the wrong man. Jackie didn’t finish school and started hanging around with Jerome Tibbs he was at that time thirty years of age, six two, dark skinned, and a nice built man, who left school early when he found out by using his charm he could get girls to give him money.

At age sixteen Jerome had three high school girls in his stable. At twenty years old Jerome moved up to streetwalkers, and when he met Jackie, he liked what he saw. Jerome had a soft spot for her, but he was a businessman, who if his other ladies knew that, it would cause trouble for his business, so he let them all think they were his special ladies, so they would keep making him money. Over the years Jerome couldn’t help his feelings for Jackie. Jackie stood out, she brought in the most money, and she was very attentive to Jerome and was always making sure his business was in order and looking out for problems with the other ladies. Jackie made sure that Jerome knew what the other ladies were doing that would affect him in a bad way, because of that the other ladies that came in the business hated her. The ladies let Jackie know of their feelings and there were a lot of fights in the stable. Jerome put a stop to that and after a while he finally told them Jackie was his number one lady, and if they didn’t like it they could walk. The ladies loved Jerome all five of them; he had Rachael the oldest one in her mid forty’s Jackie wondered why at her age she would be still walking the stroll. Then there was Tonya who was chubby and who had the biggest mouth and caused the most trouble in the group. Julie was the quiet one who ran away from home who was on drugs. Julie was a small frame girl who fell hard for Jerome and because of him she kicked that habit because he wouldn’t deal with any drug addicts. Jerome felt he couldn’t trust them to bring him all his money. Maria was a Hispanic small frame girl who crossed the border and fell into the life and after a while by herself on the streets she chose Jerome. Last but not least was Monica she was the youngest who hated Jackie the most because she wanted to be the number one lady in Jerome’s life.

James over the years had tried to get Jackie to come home, once he came to where she was staying with his gun. James was so angry that he wasn’t thinking of the consequences he just wanted his daughter back. James couldn’t stand having his wife cry and blame herself for their daughter leaving. Martha thought it was her fault and that maybe there was something she could have done better at raising her. James felt helpless so he took matters into his own hands and went over there with his forty-five in his pocket. James knocked on the door to the huge house and Monica let him in. The house had a large swimming pool in the back yard that James could see driving up and antique furniture all over. It made James sick to think that it was because off the labor of these women that Jerome could have a home bigger than the one he worked all his life for. In the house it had a big picture over the fireplace of Jerome and Jackie. The other ladies hated that picture they often wanted to throw it into the fireplace. When James saw the picture he knew that Jerome had a strong hold on his daughter but he had to try to get her back so after Monica left him and she called Jackie to come downstairs to see her father she then left to call Jerome. Jackie loved her father but Jerome was her life and there was no way she was going to leave him. As Jackie came downstairs James looked at his daughter and with tears in his eyes he went over to her and hugged her tight not wanting to let her go, he missed her so much. Jackie at that time was feeling the love from her father, it touched her heart she didn’t want to hurt him or her mother who she would often want to call but every time she did, it would leave her so hurt and empty. Jackie didn’t like hurting her mother but Jackie knew what life she chose for herself, she wanted Jerome and to have him she had to choose his life style but to see the tears in her father’s eyes made her doubt what she was doing. Jackie never saw her father cry even when his parents died. James would always stand tall and strong, for Jackie to see her father so broken, shocked her and she knew she had to re-think her life but first she had to get her father out of the house before Jerome came home and the drama would start. Jerome didn’t hate James he knew that James just wanted his daughter back but he wanted her too. Jerome had a hold on her; he caught her when she was sixteen years old and very naive. Jackie looked up at her father and asked him Please for me daddy, please leave, I don’t want any trouble we can talk later.’’ James looked at his daughter and wondered how she could ever want to leave her safe comfortable home for this kind of life. James thought he had a strong chain on his daughter he was watchful to make sure Jackie went to school and church. James watched her friends he didn’t let her stay out late. Jackie never said too much and she wasn’t a very talkative child, she didn’t complain so he thought she was happy until now. It just dawned on him that maybe he had the chain on so tight that when it got loose she slipped away into the arms of a pimp. James then wished he could turn back the clock and trust her more to know what life to choose but it seemed that he didn’t give her the chance to make a choice he did it for her so now he was left with the feeling of loss for his daughter and hatred for her pimp. James knew that being a deacon in church and to have those feelings was wrong but he was human and that was his daughter. James didn’t want to create problems for Jackie so he left the house sadly. Jackie walked her father to his car and Jackie could see Monica outside with a sly smile on her face. That told Jackie that she had called Jerome and before James could get into his car Jerome drove up in his sky blue Cadillac. Jerome stopped the car and got out, he had on a leather brown suit with a hat to match, he also had some leather brown boots on. He was tore up, to the floor up; he walked over to James and put his hand out to shake. Don’t push me punk I’m not your friend and I’m not glad to meet you.’’ James said then added. How dare you take advantage of these women I bet you never had an honest job in your life!’’ No Jerome said emotionless and then added Never had, never will not while I can work my mouth and get females to work for me. At that moment James put his hand in his pocket where his gun was and took it out and pointed it at Jerome. Give me one reason why I shouldn’t take you out!’’ James yelled. Because you will have to shoot through me, Jackie said as she stood in front of Jerome to protect him. Baby he got you brainwashed come home and let’s start over, leave this life, please child! James cried to his daughter with tears now flowing down his cheek, it was now or never for James. Jackie looked at her father then turned around and looked at Jerome who at this time had a nervous look on his face being that close to death. Jackie then turned around to her father and told him I can’t go, my life is here. At this time the tears were falling so uncontrollably that she could hardly talk. James put his gun back in his pocket looked at his daughter and told her You made your choice, I won’t ever bother you again.’’ With that James got into the car and drove off. Jerome exhaled a sigh of relief and he then took Jackie in his arms and told her You made a good decision I will always be here for you." Then they both went into the house as Monica watched angrily because it didn’t go down the way she wanted it to.

    CHAPTER 2

    Jackie’s Drama

James had a long drive back home and when he finally got there Martha was waiting for him on the porch where they had his and her rockers. James walked slowly up the stairs and sat down in his chair by his wife and told her that he felt like his daughter had died. Martha upset of how James was thinking said. But she’s not and we won’t give up, we’re going to keep on fasting, and keep on praying until she comes home. Well time went on and years went by and Jackie stayed with Jerome, but soon after that incident Jerome took her off the street, he made her his woman that was just for him. That made it even harder for her to even think about leaving, it also made her love him even more, but Jerome still had his business of pimping, so he still had to interact with the other ladies. It was always hard for Jackie to see this, but it was just business she thought, until Stacy came along. Stacy was eighteen years old; she had beautiful chocolate skin, small frame and she had a short haircut that was very sharp. Stacy reminded Jackie of herself when she was young, naïve and so in love with Jerome and her eyes would follow him like she was a whoop puppy dog this made Jackie concerned, but what made her nervous was how Jerome looked back at her, and how much time he was spending with her, even the other ladies was throwing it in Jackie’s face how she was losing her spot.

The final straw was when Jerome left for the weekend and took Stacy. It was now time for Jackie to fight to keep her man, so Jackie decided when he came back she was going to have to do something special to keep him. When Jerome came home she didn’t complain until he tried to move Stacy into their house. When Jerome took Jackie off the street he got another house and moved his other ladies into that home to keep the peace. It worked as long as Jackie didn’t have to see his interactions with the other ladies. Jackie would try to convince herself she had a stable relationship, but now Jerome was trying to move Stacy into the guestroom, that’s when Jackie put her foot down she yelled at Jerome for the first time ever. She can’t stay here, I’m not taking this, and you can’t do this to me! I can and I will do whatever I want, she’s staying and if you don’t like it you can leave! Jerome yelled back and then slapped Jackie across the face and told her to never try to tell him what to do. Jerome had never hit Jackie before and the hurt look on her face did something to him. Jerome had to remember how she left her family to be with him and how she stood by him for so long, so he told Stacy she had to stay at the other house with the other ladies. Jerome knew that Stacy would argue with him about it, because to Stacy Jerome was hers.

Stacy also had left her family. Stacy left what she thought to be a stressful home life; she didn’t start off on the wrong track, like Jackie she had a Christian family; her father was a Preacher at the biggest church in her hometown. Stacy had an older sister and brother, her sister was the head choir director her brother was the assistant Pastor and her mother was the first lady of the church. Stacy tried but she couldn’t measure up she didn’t get good grades she was always getting into fights because the other girls at school was jealous of her and because she was the Preachers daughter some of the girls would start fights just to make her look bad. Stacy tried to tell her parents about how she wasn’t starting all the problems, but her father wouldn’t believe her and asked her why she couldn’t be more like her brother and sister, and why did she keep embarrassing him. He told her that her actions made it hard for him to be respected when he was running a church but couldn’t run his family. After a while Stacy left she figured this way she wouldn’t embarrass her family anymore. So when Stacy left she was hurt and looking for love then came Jerome putting on the charm doing his job getting women. Being Stacy was young and looking for love she was easy to get in his stable, but she wasn’t going to take a back seat to anyone, so when Jerome didn’t allow her to stay at his house, she put her plan into action to not only move in but to get Jackie out. Jackie was feeling overwhelmed that she got pass that close call, she knew she had to keep an eye open to watch out for this young girl. Jackie felt somewhat sorry for Stacy because she was so young, and now at the age of thirty years old, as much as she loved Jerome, Jackie wished that she could start over because now she was older and she knew more and now she had wasted many years being with Jerome. Jackie thought back in her mind that the day would come that he might choose another main lady, she hoped not, but she put her whole life into helping him, she
