INTRODUCTION
This story is fiction; All the characters, organizations and events portrayed in this novel are either products of the authors imagination or are used fictionally.
It is a story that will cause some to think and some to prepare as you witness some of the trials and tribulations that can occur when family and friends are omitted by proof of the main character portrayed. It will open your mind to a realization that most of us have never given any thoughts or considerations to its presence.
CHAPTER I
A very frightening and awakening experience recently occurred in my life that I sincerely hope no one, regardless of age, sex; race or financial status will never have to endure.
It all started about six o’clock Friday evening on April fourteen, in the year of twenty thirteen. I had returned home totally exhausted from giving an all day seminar to a group of new and energetic entrepreneurs.
I am a single senior that lives alone and am now retired from a very successful and financial rewarding business that was created and maintained by me as sole proprietor for many years. I like to brag on this because, being a woman, alone and maintaining a business in a man’s world, to me, was quite a challenge. Being subjected to all the ups and downs that occasionally occurs in the business world, especially for women, I managed to remain a lady through it all, and this gained me much respect in the business arena.
There were many sincere, kind and helpful people that guided me along the way. It is one of the reasons that I try to give something back by giving free seminars to new entrepreneurs on every second Friday of each month.
I am the second sibling of three girls, our mother, God bless her soul, always referred to us as, her three girls
. She passed away ten years ago, but my two sisters Ann and Carol are still alive and both have their own very successful and thriving business.
Self supporting was not a negotiable factor with our mother. Her determination was, her three girls,
would create and maintain a business of our own. We attended countless business seminars in between colleges to help us in achieving this goal.
Our father loved all of us, but was rarely around, his business as a land salesman through out the world kept him away from home most of the time, so mother usually had the role of daddy and mama. Even though our father was rarely home we all knew he loved us, and no matter what or were he never missed being home with us on Christmas.
He brought gifts on Christmas that he had collected from the different regions of the world in which he had visited, and shared exciting and interesting stories of his travels with us. He would sit in his huge black leather comfort chair with both legs extended and head slightly tilted back as he talked, mother gave him this chair during one of his Christmas visits and she would not allow anyone to sit in it while he was away.
Our mother, my sisters and I would sit on the floor around him and his chair while he talked. We would stare at him with wide open eyes and glowing faces of amazement as he told us stories of his travels. All though they were very interesting stories as well as very educational to hear how other people of the world live, we were so happy to have him home that it would have been just as enjoyable to us if he had said nothing.
This was the only times of the year that our mother didn’t insist on us studying our school lessons. The many books and lessons we had acquired for our schooling were placed on hold during our father’s visit, which was also an added bonus for us.
When we gave our father his Christmas gifts he would show sincere surprise as he opened each gift one at a time. His eyes would light up the room like the glowing morning sun while presenting a wide even smile that showed his sparkling pearl white teeth. He had a way of wrinkling his forehead that accompanied this smile that made each of us feel we were special.
Our mother would laugh and say, he’s putting on his salesman face.
We didn’t clearly understand the meaning of her comment; we just knew his smile made us feel special. Between mother, dad, my sisters and me it was impossible to tell which one of us were the most happiest, having our father home just made the family complete.
However things would have been much better for me today if mother had insisted on him coming home more often or at least to make contact with the family more frequently. Due to the long intervals between visits and family contacts we had no way of knowing whether his health was good or poor, so we girls adjusted ourselves to thinking he would live forever. Our mother must have adjusted to this mode of thinking as well, because she never mentioned any concern about his welfare. He also was not aware of our status, but this was the nature of our family so we all adjusted accordingly.
