My brother—Gorden Neal Hagerman who was there when I needed someone to talk to and lend a helping hand. I know if I needed anything he would help me.

My brother—Roger Dell Hagerman who is the one that is little in stature but if I had a need he would be at my side.

My brother—Preacher Randall Ralph Hagerman who is my baby brother and always will be. He is strong in all he stands for and has helped me in many ways, especially if I ever needed a shoulder to share my burdens he would help carry my load.

To the best sister-in—laws anyone could have: Sharon, Relaine, Loretta, Carol and Judy. I love every one of you very much and hope that you will enjoy this book.

    A Heavenly Name

    Hearing Voices

Marcella could barely make out the voices that seemed to be whispering around her. Lying in the hospital bed she could hear someone quietly sobbing. Who is crying? Mom! Is that my momma crying? In the stillness of her mind she could feel someone holding her hand. Someone was touching her head. There was another voice that caught her attention. It was a gentle voice. Yes, she had heard that voice before. She did not have to see his face. She knew him.

He was the doctor that had taken care of her when she got sick. He was the one who gave her suckers after the shot. He always did funny things to make her laugh. One time he had a mirror. He said, Marcella look into this mirror. Do you see the monkey? They both just laughed and laughed and laughed.

Why was the good doctor, Jimmy here? What did he say? Trying hard to open her eyes Marcella noticed that her body was like a rag doll, floating upward towards a ray of bright lights.

Marcella was remembering being at church with her mom and dad. The preacher was talking about when a person dies that their soul will go to heaven to live with God the Father.

After church Marcella had asked her father this question. If I die will my Heavenly Father be with me to take me to heaven? Nodding, her daddy’s reply was, Yes, God our Father will walk by your side. You see, Marcella, God said in his word, that He would never leave us our forsake us. Marcella was quiet for a little while and then she said, Momma when can I go to heaven to meet my Heavenly Father?" Kathy did not know what to say. Answering her daughter she said,

When the time is right you will meet your Heavenly Father. We will talk more on this later ok.

This seemed to satisfy Marcella for the moment. But that time never came for you see there was a bad accident.

Don’t ever put anything off tomorrow what you can do today.

    The Accident

Although, it was early fall, the sun was shining with just a tint of warmth, the blue birds were singing. The different arrays of flowers were shades of burnt orange and yellows. The leaves just started to turn a tat of brown. Marcella loved to play outside on her swing set. She also had a sand box, which she liked to make sand castles. She would put her Barbie dolls in the sand castles and act like she would be a prince and rescue them.

They had just got back from church and Marcella wanted to go outside to play. Kathy and Daniel decided it would be all right but she had to put on a long sleeve shirt, jeans and tennis shoes.

Kathy always worried about the interstate that flowed pass their home. It was a four lanner. The speed limit was seventy-five miles per hour. Although everyone who lived there said that they had no problems with the interstate being there. So to make Kathy feel safer, Daniel built a six-foot wall of wood around it, thinking, just maybe that would ward off someone going too fast. It probably would not stop someone from driving through but it might slow someone down enough before they would hit the play area where Marcella played.

Daniel rarely worked at the office on Sunday’s but he had to get ready some insurance papers for various companies. These papers had to be in the mail tomorrow morning. His office was only fifteen minutes away from home. His head was telling him to go but his heart was telling him to stay.

Holding hands Kathy and Daniel walked to the door. Giving Kathy a kiss and promising to be back right before supper, he reached down and gave Marcella a bear hug and told her that he loved her.

After Daniel left Marcella went to her play area in the front yard. The jingling of the phone caught Kathy’s attention. Talking to her best friend Amanda, Kathy tried to watch where Marcella was playing.

Marcella was swinging on her swing set: She was swinging her feet back and forth. She would lean forward and backwards, going higher and higher. Her red hair catching the sunlight making it look like shimmering beams was dancing around her head. Kathy could hear her laughter or even a melody from church that they had sung that day.

Marcella was very content playing by herself. There were at times Kathy would watch Marcella alone talking, as if with someone else. Just an imaginary friend she thought. Kathy thanked God for Marcella every day. She was their miracle child. She was the only child they could have because of complications from a surgery that Kathy had years ago. Marcella was a good little girl. At the age of five she talked about the Lord a lot. She would ask lots of questions for a child her age. Kathy would always try to answer them the way that a five year old would understand.

Amanda was asking if they would like to come to a singing convention that they were going to have at the church next weekend. Of course they would. Marcella loved to sing. When she sung she would capture the hearts of everyone.

Turning her head away from the window Kathy put the phone back on the hook. It was just for a moment.

Kathy heard a terrifying sound, the screaming of brakes, scraping metal against wood and then a loud explosion.

Running toward the front door Kathy did not have to look out the window to see what had happened. She knew. Oh God! She knew.

Hoping on hope that Marcella was still at her swing set not in the sand box. To her dismay, she felt her legs get weak and wobbly. Her daughter was in the sandbox. She was in a small heap. Kathy started screaming as she ran. The neighbors heard the noise and the screaming and came running. One neighbor ran to Kathy but when she saw Marcella she began to scream. Kathy fell down on her knees and gathered Marcella in her arms. For just a moment she held her close. Seeing blood running from her nose and mouth Kathy jerked the tail of her blouse out of her jeans and started to wipe the blood away but to no avail.

There were lots of people that had gathered around. Tears streaming down her face Kathy asked, Please has anyone called the ambulance, police, or even Daniel? A kind neighbor gave her assurance that all had been called but had not got a hold of Daniel yet. A man tried to take Marcella out of Kathy’s arms but she would not let her go. She could feel the warmth from her baby’s body, could hear her labored breathing and she wanted Marcella to know that her momma is there and would never let her go. Marcella stirred and moaned but still was as a limp dishrag in her mother’s arms. The police and the ambulance came at the same time. The paramedics told Kathy that she could ride in the back with Marcella that was the only way that they could get the mother to let go of her precious daughter.

Daniel was in his office when he got the message. He had just finished some important forms when the telephone call came. Thinking it was Kathy calling for supper he proceeded to put the forms in the envelopes. Letting the phone rang several times before answering.

    Hello Daniel here.

Daniel this is Bob Chambers from church.

Yes he remembered Bob Chambers with the beard, always laughing and very friendly.

Daniel there has been an accident and you need to come home right away.

All of a sudden Daniel felt sick in
