About this ebook

It appears to me that crime, like time, is continual. The reason I say this is that God has made my brain is such a way that when a crime is committed within the grasp of myself I suffer an enormous head pain until it is completed or stopped. I seemed to have pain so much here lately is why I feel that crime is on the upturn. This has been going all my life with my brain acting like this.
There has been times when I suffered pain and it turned out to be crimes where people were killed but there was not enough evidence available in my vision to identify the perpetrators. This information came from the sheriff later and I presumed it was true. DNA and other methods he said were used to come up with the one who committed the crime. Many have not been apprehended so I had it in my mind that I would try to use that mystic part of my brain to capture them or at least locate them.

    Chapter 1

I have had this ability to detect such incidents all my life but never used it or notified anyone except my parents and Gary until I was 18 years of age. When I told my Uncle about it we agreed that it was worth a try to find out what I could visualize or actually comprehend.

Being an attorney as well as a medical doctor I thought it just might work out by concentrating on just one case. However concentrating on just one case did not prevent me picking up the information that another crime was being committed so I had a problem with the last crime replacing the one I was concentrating on so much. I had another problem trying to return to the one I was working on. Brain manipulations were not available to me at this time.

By trying this method of determining where the criminal might be committing his act, I was placing myself as a detective. Being an attorney did not make me a detective but using my ability as a lawyer maybe I could work it out legally and be more helpful in solving crimes.

I started out by going to the scene of a murder and working from there. Rehashing the incident that had been placed in me was no problem but I needed to act like a blood hound and find where the murderer was now.

I could see him plainly but not his face and saw that he had escaped in an automobile but the kind was not detected by my vision. I went again to the sheriff and asked about the automobile he escaped in.

I completely forgot to tell you about the escape car, Jimmy, and I am sorry. It was a tan Mercury but for some reason there seems to be a lot of Mercury autos in this area. I would say a late model but that is all. Checking with the D P S we found out the license plate was stolen from another car, the sheriff said and then asked, Do you have some information on this case? If you do we would like to know about it. Have you been contacted by the family to be their attorney?

Yes, I was asked to look into the case by my detective who was working for the family of the deceased. They engaged me as their attorney so I am just trying to find out as much about the case as possible and see how I should proceed with my investigation. I will be glad to stop if it is causing other problems. Just let me know and I will inform my detective and the family about what we decide to do, I said.

No, no. There is no problem if you are going to be their attorney. The only thing is we can compare notes and it might be better for both of us. I will be glad to give you what we find out and would like for you to do the same for us. Good luck and we will see you around, he said and I left for my office.

Getting back to the scene of the crime I just sat in my car and thought about how the crime was performed. I knew there was a scuffle, the man who was killed had a lot of money in his possession when he was accosted by the man with a gun. Trying to defend himself he was shot and killed and the criminal took the money with him.

I decided to check with the business who sent him out with the cash and was informed that it was a regular run and no, the man did not carry a gun. He had no guard with him and they knew that he should have had one. He had over three thousand dollars to be deposited they told me. By doing this daily I am certain that he had been cased for some time before they attempted to rob him. It could also have been prompted from inside the business office. I am going to ask the sheriff to check all employees who had access to the knowledge of when, how, and where the money was being taken for deposit. The robbery did not take place at or near a bank but it was on the regular route used by the money bearer to go to the bank for the deposit.

From talking to the CEO of the firm who lost the money and who was the employer of the murdered man it appears that everyone in the organization knew the routine for depositing their money. Any one of the employees could have give the information to someone on the outside of the company and was in on the split of the money that was stolen.

After completion of the search for further information I still was not able to make mental contact about the murderer in my mind. I can still see him but his dress was so like the usual person would wear and his size was a normal adult about 6 feet tall. I had hoped that I could make some type vision but it is doubtful now that it will be quick and I must continue working on that one case just for the practice.

I know that God has made my brain like it is for some reason and also that he expects me to find out what it is. Part of the puzzle has been solved by my ability to detect a crime being committed and almost pinpoint its location exact most of the time. I know it sounds far fetched but I cannot help that and it is imbedded in my mind and I cannot remove it. I have known that since I was 7 years old. That is why I said that I believe God put it there for a reason and I must figure out what it is. Trying to solve crimes is the first time I have ever tried to work it out this way and I know it will happen some day if I keep at it.

Returning to my office I found it full of patients. I do not remember having appointments but I will soon find out. As I went into my office my secretary followed me and said, Dr. Long, I am sorry but none of these patients has an appointment but they said they were going to wait until you came in as they must see you. What do you want me to do?

I will see them so send them in on first come, first served basis and I will work it out. I know them and they will not leave until they talk to me even if it is as I am going out the door. I appreciate their loyalty and do not want to mess it up, I said.

I will send the first one in. Thanks Doctor, she said and left for her desk.

It was about 10 AM when I returned to the office and found it full. I know it will take me two or three house to see all those waiting to see me. Too bad some of them do not have enough to keep them busy but I enjoy listening to them anyway and will do what I can to relieve their minds.

I decided to forgo lunch and it was two before I finished seeing all of them. I think they all had a good chat in the waiting room and at least they had each others company. Not one of them was an emergency but some needed Rx’s and others wanted to just talk and nothing else. Something I would never believe and that is to pay just to talk.

Solving the latest murder is getting to me for some reason. I just wish I could get it out of my mind and get on with something constructive. I will go over to the Crime Lab and talk to Jason and Steve. They might have obtained something that will trigger my thinking process or something anyway.

Going into the reception room I informed the secretary that I would be gone for the rest of the day then left.

Entering the Crime Lab I said, I hope I am not interrupting. I am mulling over the latest murder case and trying to figure out how he escaped so fast and that I might have a vision about it. How is everyone here?

Steve answered, Busy as usual. Jimmy, how are you doing these days? We seldom see you anymore but I know you always have something going on.

I was just wondering if you have anything on the case I mentioned. I am trying out something new and I need anything to trigger my brain into working order, I said.

We had a witness who said the murderer was not from around here as far as they could figure out. They did give a good description of him though and we will give that to you. Jason, print out that description for Jimmy and any recent information we have received. I bet you already have all of it thought but at least you will have it in writing now, came from him.

I was wondering how long it would take you to hire a secretary. It takes a lot of time recording all this stuff even though you have it on the computer. Hard copy is good and necessary when you keep a written file on all cases for others to view, I said to them.

It certainly is. I will forward any info we receive in the future to your e-mail. Is that ok? he asked.

Yes. I must get going as I am taking the family out to the Morton farm tonight. I have some land out near the Medical Center I want to put to use. I will do one of three things with it but stocking it with cattle seems to be the best thing. I told him.

You are going to be the community cattle baron if you keep up like that with cattle. It is good and we need more good beef. The prices do not seem to be excessive but I know they make you a good profit. What was the other ideas on it? Jason asked.

It has never been drilled on for oil and I thought about seeing if I could have some wells drilled but I do not believe I will at this time. It will be good later on when the price of oil goes up again. Also I thought about seeing if I could have it farmed for cattle feed. Do you know how expensive that stuff is? I am doing good with the other farm growing feed instead of cotton or something else. I also thought of developing it into a subdivision of expensive homes but the more I though about it the less attractive it became. Cattle seems to have won out. Steve we are driving out there tonight and would like for you to tag along if you can. I would like for you to meet the Morton’s anyway. I said to them.

Let me give you a call if I can get away from here. Steve said and seemed reluctant to say anything else.

I must get going. Paige will be home soon and I want to spend some time with J. R. If you do not call I will not drive over to pick you up. Bye you two and I will see you next time, I said and left the building.

Driving home I again went into a reverie about my business. Time moves on as usual and my projects seemed to be working satisfactory for all concerned.

My only concern is with the visions that hit my brain when a crime is being committed. The visions are not limited to crimes but I do not mention them unless it affects my family. I do not believe I have said anything about those visions to anyone as they are few and far between for which I am thankful.

I was contacted by some people who wanted me to go into the service for a while but if I am not drafted I do not believe I want to go. On the other hand it just might do Paige and I both good to venture out for a change. Now a bad idea as we can both go in as doctors and might be able to write our own ticket. I have thought about service a lot of times but this is the first time I was ever contacted about going in,

Andrew is getting ready to graduate from high school and is anxious to get into college. His stock buying and selling spree is or has worked out and he does good with the assistance of the broker. He is naturally in a hurry to buy and sell on his own but that will be a long time and it takes a lot of talking to get the excitement settled down in him. I am so glad he is one who takes advice and requests and sticks to the answers he gives. Like the stock dealings. It is one thing he does not do on his own as he said he would abide by my wishes and not do it. Once he gets in college that will be a different story as he will be too busy with classes so he will hardly have time for anything else. Why am I saying that to myself? I know he will have time as he is good at studying and will always use that as relaxation like I did when I was in school. One becomes addicted to that just as if it was a drug.

I know though he will go to the brokerage firm when he can work it in and buy and sell there as he uses that money for his personal expenses. That is good also as he is not able to go into his trust fund for personal items since he is not yet in college. I still receive e-mail reports on what he is doing and also how he is performing. I also keep an eye on the trust but I believe he will not touch it and in reality he cannot do it anyway until he starts college work. He would have to get his father or another to sign a withdrawal request and I believe they would refuse or call me about it.

My Aunt Joan is so happy with her herd of cattle as she call them. Uncle Ted says she is constantly feeding them and they seem to know her and follow her around as they know she will give them the extra food she keeps on hand.

I am glad she is getting out of the house more as before she just stayed in when she was not concerned with the Nursing School. I never thought of her loving the outdoors so much as she never did anything but work until her son was born. She then became a loving home mother caring only for her family.

I have been working with Aunt Joan and Uncle Ted on my place as it is jointly owned by their son T. J. according to my great grand fathers will. We have an arrangement for rental to be paid into his estate and it works out fine. I only lease his half as it is better than dividing the property into two parts. Income from the wells on it has always been distributed equally into his trust fund ever since we have had it. I always call it mine since I work all of the land.

My cattle herd is growing almost daily now that so many calves are being born. Mr. Morton is so happy with what he is doing now with working the farm and taking care of the cattle that he now owns along with mine. They are by us as if we were their children. They just cannot do enough for us as they say they feel more like living now than they did when he worked so hard and received nothing much for it. I pay him a salary but I am recouping that with the sale of hay raised on the farm. We have been lucky in that we have not had to do much feeding of our herd so we have more fodder to sell.

The acreage seems to be able to sustain what cattle we now have on it but I do not want to overstock it. Aunt Joan and my mother have been my main customers for the feed we are growing on the farm but thank God we have enough and have some to sell to other people. That income is placed in a separate account as I use it, as I said before, to pay Mr. Morton for his working the farm and the cattle.

I still own a lot of land close to the Medical Center and have been discussing with Gary about making one of the plots into a subdivision with exclusive homes. I know they would sell but another project is probably something I do not need at this time. What I should do is turn it over to some contractor and then I would not have to worry about it. That was Gary’s idea and I may just do it but I do not need the money I would make on it and I know the longer I hold it the more valuable it will become.

Instead of going home as I had planned I detoured. I decided to go talk to Mr. Morton as I had another idea that might work better than the subdivision.

When I arrived at their home I had to go to the field to talk to him but I enjoyed the walk and seeing what was being done to the land.

I walked up to where he was plowing and said, Hi. It looks good and you are almost finished. What are you going to use this plot for?

This is going to be the alfalfa area this time. I think that sells better than any other and I do not want the same thing I had on it last year. Alfalfa is good for the soil. What’s on your mind, Jimmy? he asked.

"I just wanted to get out and had an idea I need to talk over with you. If you want to finish this I will just tell you about it generally and then we can come back out tonight and talk some more. J. R. is reaching the stage that it is good for him to play with your family. Since he is walking he likes to get out side and I do not want him out by himself at home due to the safety problem.

Think about this idea. I have some acreage out near the Medical Center and was wondering if you wanted to look it over and see what can be done with it. I do not want to develop it right now and maybe we can grow some hay or put more cattle on it. Think it over and I will talk to you later, I said and left him.

I have reached the point where I do not want to stay in my office all the time and it felt good to be out roaming about. I dropped by my mothers for a chat with her and Paul.

You are doing a lot of running around here lately. It is good to see you out of the office so much of the time. What is on your mind this time as I know from the way you look you want to talk, Paul said as I went into the living room.

Paul, you remember that large track of land I bought out by the Medical Center when you bought yours? I am talking about the real big track and not the smaller areas around it. I said.

Yes, I think it was about 5000 acres in that track wasn’t it? he asked.

In that vicinity but about two or three hundred acres more. Well, I was thinking of trying to develop it but then I thought it would be more valuable later on and I should use it to grow crops or put some cattle on it. I am going to take Mr. Morton out there when he can get away and see what he says about farming it or stocking it with cattle, I said.

Have you checked into leasing it for drilling? It just might already have a lease on it from the original owners. It would be worth looking into. You could still use it for cattle or farming if there is enough cleared land to do it on. It has lots of possibilities and just standing vacant is not making you any money, my mother said.

I had not thought about drilling but that is a good idea. Thanks Mom and I will look into it. Paul, would you ride out there when I go and see if you have any good thoughts about what to do with it? I would appreciate your input, I said.

I will be glad to. Maybe your mother would like to go with us and take the boy. Mary, how about that? We will let you know when we are able to go, Paul said.

After some discussion of everything again I said, I have to go but will check back later on. Paige is working today and will be home soon. I want to spend some time with J. R. You know he is walking now and that is all he want to do. Bye, I will talk to you later on, I said and then drove home.

Paige had returned home from work and was working on supper. Just the thought made me hungry as I did not take time for any lunch due to the patients wanting to see me without appointments.

Were you busy again today? I do believe we could work day and night. I just wonder where the people are coming from. I am goofing off myself, I said as I gave her a welcome home kiss.

Yes, I was busy. I do not believe I will ever be able to stop working completely. I do need to keep my fingers in the pie for a little while longer since the need for doctors just now is so great, she said to me.

"Are you available to go out to the farm tonight? I am thinking of discussing my acreage in the Medical Center area with Mr. Morton. I want to turn it into a farm or put cattle on it. I decided to wait to have it turned into a subdivision and about to settle on cattle.

"I think it will be relaxing. Glad you thought about it. I will be ready right after dinner. You know we live in the country but the farm seems like real country. We are close to town but the farm is much more remote. That I like. Let us go out there some time and just walk around doing nothing but looking. It will be good for us. In another year J. R. will really be walking good and he will like to do that and play in the dirt.

Paige, I have been approached by the military recruiters about going into the service. They need doctors so bad I have found out but I just ignored it. This is the third time and I feel bad about not doing my duty for my country. The country has been good to us and I feel that if the two of us joined we could do a lot of good. My only concern is J. R. He can be with us most of the time but suppose we are sent to Iraq or some other country like that we would have to leave him behind. My Mom would take care of him for us but I would hate to miss out on his growing up. Since they contacted me the last time I have been giving it a lot of thought. I wish you would think about it and we can discuss the problem again. I do not know if I could leave you if you did not go with me. Also I know Gary and Maxine would do what we do. They are another two I do not want to miss out on. My mom is happy and has someone to care for her and I just do not know what to do, I said and almost in tears thinking about leaving the entire family. We have been and are so close all my life it would be almost like death to me.

Jimmy, I believe I know how you feel. I am glad to have become a doctor and I would be of benefit to the service if I went with you. I believe they would try to keep us together and that would be the best part. The only thing that bothers me is your mind. What in the world would you do about all that shooting, fighting and the bombing. I do not think you could take it. I know you could tell them where they are located and that would save lot of people. Lets talk about it more later on, she said and placed dinner on the table.

After we finished eating dinner I called Gary and said, How about you all meeting us at the farm? We are going out to discuss something else with Mr. Morton.

Just one minute, Jimmy. Hold on, he said and I could hear him talking to Maxine. He came back on and said, Give us a call when you leave and we will meet you there. How are you anyway? it seems ages since we have been together and it was only a night or two ago. What else is on you feeble mind, boy? he asked.

Gary I have something that is very important and disturbing that I want to take over with you. I will talk to you tonight about a time but I will not tell you what it is about. Paige and I have been discussing it and I told her I was not going to discuss it anymore until I talked to you. You know Gary you have been my life for years and I do not want it to be any different now or in the future, I said.

Sounds ominous for some reason so we will get together and thrash it out. Max said hello and asked about Paige and the boy. I will see you soon so let me know when you leave. Bye, he said and hung up.

Paige, Gary and Maxine will meet us at the farm. I want to talk to him about what we discussed regarding the service. We are going to get together sometime tomorrow and go over it thoroughly. I just do not believe I know enough about jumping into it at this time, I said.

I will be ready in about 30 minutes or less so we can leave. I am going to put some different clothes on J. R. as he will be in the dirt and running around all the time we are there. I think I will ask the boys to take him out to the chicken coop and just around the place in general. He will really jabber about what he saw. Those boys are so good with him and he need that. I suppose Gary and Maxine will bring Gary Jr. Both of the boys will have a ball, Paige said.

I know. I am so proud of owning that place but I wish Mr. Morton could have bought it. I just might sell it to him someday if he continues with the cattle and farming as he is doing now. It has only been about 5 or 6 months that he has been with us and it has been good what he has done with the cattle. I want you to also see what he is doing with the farming. We will again have a lot of cattle feed when it is harvested. I cannot believe that Andrew will soon graduate and be off to college. He is so excited. I do not think I was ever that excited about going to college. Were you? I asked.

Yes, I was. I was not anxious to leave home but I wanted to be on my own. That is why I studied so hard and wanted to finish as soon as I could. Mom and Dad were both as excited as I was about me going to college. Naturally with my mother having a good education she wanted me to have one. I told her I was not interested in becoming a teacher but I was so proud of her being one. Dad, you know, graduated with a business degree and that is why he went into that field and got to be a CPA. Since they have both retired they cannot understand why with all our money we want to continue working. I am sure they think the same thing about your entire family, she said.

I might reach that stage in life soon but I do not want to quite now. Excuse me, dear I must get to the bathroom, I said and ran to the bathroom as a pang almost knocked me out. It is terrible and I know something is taking place.

I sat down and Paige came in and held my head. She knows what is taking place and I must do something about it.

Please call Steve or Uncle Ted? I hope this eases up soon as it is terrible, I said and said,
