About this ebook

JOURNEYS OF THE HEART AND DEDICATION POEMS reflect my journeys through my life, both sad and happy times. The book is divided into two parts because the second part Dedication Poems is especially dedicated to the special people who have touched my life. Most of the poems, in both sections were written in college. However, the newer poems in both sections reflect the importance of my current relationships and how, now, I have a true sense of peace in my life.

    Foreword

JOURNEYS OF THE HEART AND DEDICATION POEMS is a synopsis of my life that spans over several years, thus the poems are of different styles. I hope that these differences will reflect my growth. These poems also reflect my true feelings about my journey through life and are dedicated to the special people who are a part of it.

    In the almost-dark

    I find a pencil

    quickly write before the

    thoughts escape.

    I have shut all the

    curtains. I dance now,

    dance until my head

    rolls away from itself.

    Stopping the music

    rewound hearing

    song singing by itself.

    Words writing themselves

    in the dark, spaced widely,

    trying to keep from

    lap anyway.

I hold my knees, head down

    resting, grip tears that

    won’t soak dry skin,

    eyes hugging

    until the music

    pounds out.

    Rhythms above the floor,

    feet no longer feet,

    but wings, I am

    the dark singing

    in the middle

    of the afternoon.

    When my brother comes home,

    I rewind the nearly dark,

    noiseless.

    But, he comes in and

    hears me, sees me

    singing, dancing by myself.

He says, "You are a wild

    mare—others may try

    to break you, but you

    will never be tamed."

    Face pounds with pain.

    Now I fear

    my own mind,
