In Loving memory

what a good father and daddy should be;
Mr. Allen Lane Arso Sr.
Dedication
I dedicate this book to my five grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Allen’ Ernell, Tyree, Geovonni’ Markell and Senaya; and the twins that will soon make their appearance into the world and my step grandchildren Daniel Jr., Keshone and Alexis. I want y’all to know, life is what you make it. When you are face with situations that seem out of control, get in your secret place and talk to God. Be sure that you are willing to sit still long enough to listen to what he has to say. Know that we all make mistakes that we can learn from but be sure that mistakes you make are your own……….
I also dedicate this to my four children Ronald Sr., Donishia, Allen Jr. and Janealishia; My son and daughter-in-law; Terriayanna and Javario. I know we do not always agree but let us agree, That all things work together for the good that are called according to His purpose.
That means The good, the bad and the ugly.
Life is like a big puzzle and we are like tiny pieces waiting to ‘be put in its rightful place. Be patient and continue to work and ‘be worked on and in time you will reap the benefits of your labor.

Everything in life happens for a reason be it good or bad. The reason behind that happening is unclear to some but it ‘is based on your actions, thoughts, ideas and or concerns. No matter the short time, action there will always be a long time reaction. Think twice before you move on your short time action because the long time reaction may not be what you were looking for. Is your inevitable clear?

First, before I go any farther, I want to Thank God Jehovah for providing and paving a way for me to make this book possible. Without him none of this would have be in existing; thank you Baby Daddy (God) for the gift! He knows our past, our present and our future. I was told years ago to embrace whatever God has prepared for me; that means The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
. Your pain and affliction is merely a test. Your affliction becomes your testimony and your testimony becomes your ministry.
I would like to thank all my fans that continue to support me. I appreciate all of you who have been with me since, It’s Not Easy
. I know this is a different turn from the It’s Not Easy
Project, but it was something in the making long before that project was due.
Thank you mom for your opinionated support even when I didn’t want to hear it. I guess that is what moms do. Thank you dad for supporting me in all of my endeavors no matter what they were. I am so blessed to have my twin sister that constantly speaks life into me, Thank you Girl!
I do not want to leave anyone out so again, Thank you to my whole circle of family and friends.
Sometimes I am bothered with people who are in denial and or confused; I often asked myself, why are people so selfish when it comes to being honest within them. Why do we constantly lie in order to achieve what we want while we continue to ignore the feelings of others, causing them to become a victim of our betrayal? I am not just pointing fingers. I have had my share of walking in those shoes for quite some time.
When a person pretends to be someone or something they are not, they are only short-changing themselves and only themselves. So, keep it real, keep it one hundred and maybe you will find your perfect soul mate that will last forever.
Lyn
Okay, here we again go again! I am starting to see how this thing works. The game of life gets harder than before. If you are not up on your game, you might end up caught up in your own game. Therefore, with that being said, "A sistah must be on her grind in order to stay ahead of the game.
I swear, I live by these words I’d heard so many years ago,; The name of the game is Played or Be Played
and the way I’m feeling right now and all the mess I’ve been through, I am not allowing nothing or nobody to play me.
I know you are probably wondering, Who am I and what qualifies me to give you advice on the choices you make in life. I am quite aware that I am not nor ‘will I ever be certified to allow someone to sit on my couch and charge them by the hour. However, I am qualified through ‘Past Experience University to keep it real and give you a couple of free nuggets to help you out in life by sharing with you my story. So let us just pretend we are friends and I need a listening ear. I’m Lyn and you are______________. Yeah, yeah, yeah whatever! Let’s just pretend we are gonna keep this here because we know how this goes…. True friends can’t hold water and you don’t even know me. I told you earlier
let’s keep it 100, we are not friends you are just renting time in my space right now.
Now that we got the credential stuff out the way, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. I really have a lot of laundry I would like to air out and to tell you the truth, holding all this junk in, is about to make me lose my mind. I was kind of hoping that some of my bad decisions and immature behavior save you from making some of the same stupid and dumb mistakes that held me back from reaching my goals and full potential in life. Hear it from me, Don’t settle for Mr. or even Ms. Right Now;
because all it’s gonna do is set a sistah or brotha back for a minute or two. Beware! Be very aware and cautious of all those lying, deceiving things people say and do in order to get their freak on.

I was born and raised in the city of New Orleans, a place many refer to as Laid back
, a place where everybody party 24/7 in their own way; a place where no one really need a reason to party because, partying is what we do. I have had the experience to live several places in and around the city from downtown to the west bank, some areas known by many as the Hood. I, myself would not exactly call it the hood. Hood-ish maybe but it was definitely ghetto fabulous as hell. Unless you have traveled there, you would not quite understand why I said that. Therefore, I invite you to come to The Big Easy
and see for yourself what all the hype is about and maybe you would agree.
I left my hometown of Algiers Louisiana over 12 years ago with plans of starting my life over again for the fourth of fifth time; I had no plans of ever returning to The Big Easy to live. After Katrina ripped through the city, everything I have ever known became foreign to me. The fact that I am able to claim New Orleans as my home is the only thing that really connected me to the city. Since hurricane Katrina, everything there changed. It was during that time I discovered how much the government really cared about my people. They cared alright, but it was not for my people. My people struggled before the storm and it seems they are struggling even harder after the storm.
Politicians always talked about rebuilding the city but at whose cost. Yeah rite! They rebuild the city fo sho! The part of the city that was ‘most important to them. The French Quarters and Bourbon Street were among the first places to be re-established. Can you believe Mardi Gras rolled as usual with no interruption. Many people still debate rather or not that was where all the funds ‘were disbursed first. For a long time, people were still living in trailers parked outside of their severely damaged homes. With so many insurance companies going under, it forced many people to go into foreclosure and pitch camp somewhere else. Now, when I visit home or should I say what ‘is left to what I call home, looks more like a strange city to me. People who have once sworn they would never become a ‘river rat (west banker) are now occupying residence on the best bank. I wonder what they have to say about that major involuntary conversion.
I laugh now recalling some of my closest friends and relatives saying, they were never leaving The Big Easy
. Well, I guess Katrina showed them, huh. Now most of my friends and family ‘are now relocated all across the United States with a whole new look at life. If nothing else good came from Katrina ripping through and tearing our city apart; she definitely made them get some act right in their system.
I will be one of the first to say, It was quite the jump-start some of them needed.
It forced them into a better place of living allowing them to open up to change.
I must say, Katrina really pimp out the government for some much needed coins and believe me, some of my peeps really needed and deserved it. Nah, what they did with it was another story. FEMA, was all you heard coming out of people mouths for a while and here it is years later and some of them are still looking for FEMA checks.
I am aware that some people in New Orleans ‘are thought of as stereo typed. Some folk really believe all people in New Orleans are always looking for some sort of handout. My question after witnessing some of y’all behavior; do some of us need to prove them right? Believe me, this is not hear say. I have witnessed myself grown men constantly looking for some type of ongoing aid money from the government as if it was a welfare check. I was thinking to myself and growing irritated as I listened to folk compare their Red-cross emergency assistance checks. Mumbling aloud I said, Flip it!
If there were ever a time to flip it, that would have been the most opportune time to invest those coins into something good and positive instead of clothes, flat screens, purses, rims and drugs. Invest in education, visions or small businesses, something positive; something that would help change the mental mindset that some of the New Orleans people are in and all that other stuff would come in due time. I really believe that was an opportunity for some folk to come up and out of their real life cocoon. Rather or not some people believe it or not, there are some of the most talented people in the state of Louisiana. Just given the right opportunity, a few hundred or thousands of dollars and a good business or marketing plan is all one need to start their own ‘home based business. Perhaps you may be wondering what kind of business a person can start with such limited amount of cash flow. I guess this would be a good time to pitch you a couple ideas to help influence you to be a bit more generous in your giving the next time you visit the Big Easy
and witness a young man or woman on a corner displaying their talent by singing or dancing.
Have you ever stopped by and patronized a corner store in the hood before Katrina hit? Have you ever stopped by one of those backyards portable storage shades stands on a hot sticky summer day and picked yourself up one of those good ole lip smacking cool treats called a snowball? Or have you stop by one of our run-down, one way in, one way out hole in a wall café’s that sell the best Gumbo, red beans & rice, smothered onions with liver, gravy over grits or an overstuffed seafood po-boy. Well if you didn’t know it, some of those places are a few dreams coming alive on some of those pennies, nickels and dimes you toss. Nah hear me correctly, the key word to my last statement is SOME. Not all of my people have dreams.
I must admit, my life in New Orleans was wonderful. I loved every bit of it, The good, the bad and the ugly
. That is what made me into the person I am now, One strong, Black, independent woman. You know what
