Adieu
Lovers & Liars
I wish to dedicate this body of work to my wife Barb. Her love and support carries me through the longest and most difficult days. In addition I wish to thank my children and friends for the joy and pain they have shared with me. I love you all.
This is, in actuality, the second book of my poems. With the exception of three or four poems which I had copies of and are contained herein; my only copies of my first book were lost many years ago now.
I wish I has a better memory, because there were several beautiful poems, including The Man with the Crystal Eyes
, and Colors
. I could attempt to rewrite them, but my perspectives and passions have changed over the years, and the results would be far from the originals. It always intrigues me, as I reread my poems. how I can see through the eyes of the boy that I once was. I have changed in so many ways. At times, I feel I have grown, and other times, I feel as though I’ve regressed, because sometimes I feel less passionate and compassionate.
The work contained in this volume spans forty plus years, the earliest being The Ring
which I wrote in the fall of 1971, and The Search
shortly thereafter. I do not apologize for anything contained herein, because everything you are about to read reflects my state of mind at that period in my life. As a matter of fact the volume was originally titled Reflections
but eventually I came to realize that these aren’t so much reflections as perceptions of the events or circumstances surrounding each piece. They are my perceptions, as seen through the eyes of the character I was or was attempting to be at the time; much like an actor’s interpretation of a scene.
If I’ve indeed done my job well, many of the pieces will have personal meaning to you!
I hope you enjoy
Read on.
