This story is centered on Frank Mayberry and Nancy Cahill during the 1940s.
F rank, a Negro handyman, was looking for work all day. Just as he was about to call it a day, he saw this road that led to a large estate. He decided to drive his old pickup truck down the road to check things out. As he got closer, he saw a large house. He said, Man, what a fine-looking place. They must be some rich white folks who live here.
He saw that when he drove his old truck through this large gate, two Doberman dogs were barking when he drove around back. He was afraid to get out of his truck because of the dogs.
This white lady stepped from the back door. She spoke to the dogs, and they stopped barking. Frank took off his hat and said, Evening, ma’am, I’m a-wondering if you need some help round here? I can do just about most anythang.
She put her hand up to shade her eyes. What is your name?
she asked.
I’m called Frank, ma’am.
Pleased to meet ya, Frank. My name is Nancy Cahill.
Frank said, Yessum, please to meet you likewise.
What is your full name, Frank?
Yessum. Frank Mayberry, ma’am.
