    This short story is a re-imagining of The School for Wives by Moliere.

    Francisco said, I plan to marry her in three days.

    Christopher said, You’re making a mistake.

    They were old friends sitting at a round table drinking gin in Francisco’s library in his big house. The curtains were drawn over the huge floor-to-ceiling window to keep out the sun. In Miami, to keep out the sun is a daily necessity.

    A mistake?

    Do you want me to tell you the truth? To take a wife is a rash step for you, no matter how you look at it.

    Francisco smiled. I think I understand where you’re coming from. Your wife was unfaithful to you, so you think that I’ll meet with a similar misfortune.

    That’s not it. When I tell you that you shouldn’t marry, it’s on account of this: you’ve poked fun over the years at a hundred husbands. Your greatest pleasure is to poke fun at unhappy husbands that have unfaithful wives, so—

    —Exactly. Is there another city like Miami? Wives and girlfriends run wild. Cheating on their husbands or boyfriends, and the men stand by and take it. It’s a party town, that’s the bottom line.

    Christopher’s eyes narrowed. It’s time for your comeuppance.
