    Always and Forever

6 am the morning after Thanksgiving 1988 and I am about to embark on a life changing and challenging new career at the age of 23.

Have to be at the shop in Woodbridge by 7 am sharp, a one hour drive. Fire up the camero Z28 and as I do I cant help but chuckle, the boys at the shop are going to love me right off the get go, all I need is a garter belt hanging off my rear view and I’m in.

Arrive at the shop with minutes to spare, thanks to a great car that made it very hard to drive the speed limit, man I miss that car. Upon arriving I could feel the anxiety starting to rise, three deep breaths and I was able to keep it at bay.

The second I opened the door to the shop I felt like I was truly entering another world. Men were running around yelling at each other frantically loading pipes and boxes into vans like it was some kind of a race. No one paid any attention to me, it was like being on an island alone, I felt so alienated, a feeling I was not used to. After about a half hour of that a short man with piercing blue eyes and a finely groomed beard came over to me and said You! get in the truck" and pointed over to a maroon colored van warming up just outside the large shop doors, I could see the condensation all over the van from the sun as it rose in the sky, the smell of diesel fumes filled the air.

All the way to the job he says
