    PREFACE

V ACATIONS TEND TO be an awesome way to relieve stress, especially if they are prank free. Mine was just that until I returned home and found numerous notes posted to my front door. It was amazing to see what my dear-old companions had been up to as the messages had portrayed their so-called sense of humor. Even Tom and Ralph posted notes with their version of humor just to make sure I had not forgotten about them.

I shook my head as I thought of that old phrase What was I Thinking when I called the gang to let them know I had returned from my vacation. Marty couldn’t wait to hear about the trip to the lake on our next poker night. Ralph was just as excited as he clearly stated that the story-line for this book would be one that he feels would give him the edge on his competition. I had sent Ralph a copy of the story-line about a few days before I returned home.

The ladies were equally excited when they found out about the new additions to the family. Cindy was pleased when she found out that Amy had a new arch-rival. Harriett at first had a hard time letting Cassandra in on the pranks with the pet characters. Thanks to Harry and lots of flowers, she decided to give it a trial run. One can only sense what our first meeting will be like. Even with the addition of new characters and the return of others, you will see once again that I still don’t have a sense of humor.

    THE AUTHOR RETURNS HOME

    Finally

I T FELT REALLY good to be home and start on my next venture. Like I said before, vacations are nice if one needs time away to un-stress or just relax. Even though I enjoyed my time at the lake with Sophie, home was where I wanted to be. It meant tradition. Tradition in the sense that I was able to look forward to carrying on a tradition started long ago with my faithful group of friends. One doesn’t realize how important they are until you spend time apart. For me, this was one of those times. Maybe everyone else was anxious to see what lies for them in the upcoming story-line. For me, I was anxious to get back to work. Sophie couldn’t wait to update her Facebook page. She spent hours on her laptop answering messages as soon as we unpacked from our trip.

Just as I was about to relax, Cindy called and informed me of the homecoming party she was having that evening. After our conversation, I could tell that Cindy had an ulterior motive for inviting me to the party. Seems that she was still smarting from the last incident with Amy and wanted to make sure I had a cure for her problem. Despite her concerns, Cindy did make it a point to welcome me home and was anxious to see all of us together for a night of friendly bantering. To add to the evening, I told Cindy that I had a surprise for the gang. I couldn’t wait to see the look on everyone’s faces when Rick and Jill would show up at the party.

Just as I pulled a cold beer from the refrigerator, Brenda called. She couldn’t wait to fill me in on her endeavors and of her latest find. Brenda asked me if she could come over so that we could discuss the changes to the manuscript. She even told me that she had an offer I couldn’t refuse. Even though I wanted to rest before the party, I told Brenda that I would meet her for lunch at my favorite restaurant. As I was changing, Sophie asked me what the conversation was about. I told her that Brenda had a few ideas on a new story-line and wanted to fill me in on it before the party. When I told her where I was meeting Brenda for lunch, Sophie asked if she could tag along. Of course I told her no and jokingly said to her "You do remember I gave up restraining orders, right?" Sulking, she went back to her computer. There was no telling what she was posting on her Facebook page.

When I arrived at the restaurant, Brenda was already seated. To my surprise, a very attractive woman was sitting with her. I was almost star-strucked when she introduced us. This woman’s smile almost made me forget the reason why I was meeting with Brenda. Brenda introduced her friend Anna as the new bookkeeper for Paws R Us. She informed me that Anna would be working for us part-time and that she also had a job at the local bank. According to Brenda, that was the good news. She didn’t hesitate to put
