    Preface

On Becoming A Leader is a thought provoking and life-changing Treatise for all believers. Words of correction, admonition, exhortation, edification and inspiration can be extracted to offer revitalization and spiritual renewal. No minister should be without a copy of this book. It will make you laugh, cry, almost kick yourself and facilitate hope.

Many people desire to become a Leader now-a-days and excel rapidly to the top. Excellent ministers are shaped, made and molded over time. Character is still an important link in leadership. Jesus Christ does not automatically bring greatness of character but He provides the grace, power and love as a challenge to help you earn it. By digging deep into the quality of your spiritual life, you can withdraw useful nuggets of information to guide you in a leadership role.

As you respond to the ministry calling on your life, you will discover that God requires obedience and faithfulness. Loyalty and ethical standards will undergird your calling. My plea is for Christian men and women in leadership roles to embrace a standard of adherence to moral and artistic values that are incorruptible. To love, show mercy, uphold reverence for God and respect for others are key elements in doing ministry right.

My intention for writing this book is share divine revelations from God, be faithful in promoting sound biblical text and give suggestions that relate what we think, say or feel from our sensory perceptions about the way things are being done in the church by co-laborers. Throughout this text each reader will find enlightenment and encouragement for innovation.

Our instructional efforts have been widely accepted and incorporated in both religious and secular organizations. Most of the teachings in this book are offered through our Bible College, Baruch Leadership Training Academy, and in workshops which we facilitate around the world. We bring the school to you. We provide an affordable education in a year-round setting via a Correspondence Program, and with on-campus instructional Certificate and Degree Programs at our North Miami, Goulds, Florida, and Bahamas campuses. Acknowledgments

All praise and glory be unto Almighty God for bestowing this privilege upon me to share this information with you. I believe that this workbook was inspired by God and written under the Teacher’s anointing.

This book goes forth with gratitude and prayer that Jesus Christ will be honored, God will enlighten the eyes of our understanding concerning the mysteries of the church that are being revealed today. Personal awareness of spiritual growth and expansion of ideas is being imparted to the church through preventive and corrected viewpoints from anointed and seasoned leaders.

Dedicated to my husband Princey, I am grateful for continuing to share me with the Body of Christ in ministry. Thanks for patience, understanding, support and encouragement.

To my deceased dad, Prince, whose harsh disciplines provoked me to get a better understanding of why people behave the way they do and their business endeavors are stifled or failed. It was in our convenience store that I learned to recognize covetousness, poor goal management and attainment skills, defeat, fear and procrastination in the lives of many believers. Thanks for showing me the way to Christ.

To my mom Rose, thanks for your encouragement, support, patience and prayers.

For my sisters Josephine, Theresa, Salena, Cherese and Patricia.

For my brothers Peter, Jeff, Prince Jr., Chris, Preston and David.

For all my colleagues in the gospel, Pastor Edney Bowleg and the Mother’s Prayer Band especially Mothers Nairn, Greene and King, and Pastor Garneth Campbell Andros, Bahamas; Pastors J.J. & Waide Hepburn and Evangelist Shirley Burrows, Eleuthera, Bahamas; Pastor Rudy Roberts and Mother Roberts, Freeport, Bahamas; Rev. Robert & Augustino Andoh, Ghana, Africa; Pastor George Hooper and Bishop Stephen Asare, Italy; Pastor Edna Bryan, Evangelist Margaret Reynolds, Betty Wright, Miami, Florida, and Minister Sandy Purcell, Georgia; the faithful partners around the world, all my students and my church family at Baruch Christian Fellowship Ministries.

    Chapter One

    On Becoming A Leader

Scripture: Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: The Lord knows those who are his, and Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness. In a large house, there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the master’s and prepared to do any good work (II Tim. 2:19-22 – LASB)

    Learning Objectives:

    Each reader will acquire:

    a. An ability to define the anointing and spiritual gifts

    b. A solid comprehension of the inter-relationship between forgiveness and leadership

    c. Insights into the evolution of leadership in practical Christian service

    d. Leadership strategies for effective ministry

What is on becoming a leader?

The thought of becoming a leader is both a fascinating and provocative one. Leadership training and its dynamics are certainly a topic worth discussion throughout this book. On becoming a leader is a self-initiated process. The Holy Spirit becomes the Teacher and Guide to steer a minister into what it takes to become an excellent leader especially in this new millennium. This is a challenge for every believer.

There are several pre-requisites involved in the preparatory aspect of leadership. Let us begin with the operative word called willingness. An aspiring leader must be willing to sacrifice himself or herself to God in order to be shaped, made and molded for service on a daily basis. Prayer, fasting, personal bible study and communion with God should be a consistent daily routine for all believers especially those aspiring to become leaders.

There are 3 primary prerequisites for ministry preparation. They are as follows:

Understand the Holy Spirit in these 3 roles as:

    • Teacher and Guide

    • Understand your Anointing

    • Practice Leadership Principles

As you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will learn to understand your anointing and leadership assignment.

To lead is to serve. To serve is to sacrifice one’s life as an open book before the people. Transparency is the only clear picture of a leader’s life that members of society who are searching for something called spirituality can evidence as godly, good, right and ethical.

Before a believer can offer himself or herself to Christian service, that person must be sanctified to become a vessel of honor that is fit for the Master’s use. The bible tells us plainly that, if a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honor, sanctified, and meet for the masters use, and prepared unto every good work (II Tim 2:21-KJV).
