    Preface

As always, all thanks, praise and glory are attributed to my Heavenly Father. This book was written under the Teacher’s anointing and goes forth with gratitude to all our readers and supporters. As a Christian Counselor, Pastor, Educator and Criminal Justice Practitioner for over twenty years now, I have had countless opportunities to care for and help cure the souls of thousands of people with every conceivable physical and emotional symptom. These were people from every religious and socio-economic backgrounds, age and gender groups. One of the most common complaints was their inability to control anger and deal with feelings of hurt in a positive, godly manner.

In general, most of the emotional and psychological problems of the world today would be solved if angry people would remember their humanness and that God created the emotion called anger. Christians especially should consider that anger at someone else and holding grudges in their hearts towards offenders is both an inappropriate and a contributing factor to their unruliness plus lack of submission. There are too many angry, un-submissive Christians in churches.

This book presents a balanced approach and guideline to help people deal with hurt and anger in a mature manner. The knowledge and insights shared in this book comes in part from the wisdom of the ages and is combined with knowledge of God’s word, and is consistent with the effective, applicable living out Christ-like methods for dealing with anger and angry people. Most of the issues I addressed in this book are things that I personally struggled with and have overcome, and have seen manifested in scores of people on a global level. All of the examples given in the book are to challenge the reader to self-evaluation and change. The case examples are fictitious in nature and in no way do I point a finger at any particular situation, group or person.

For the countless ministry opportunities and lives I have impacted, I am eternally grateful to God, my spouse, family and supporters. Participating in confidential counseling sessions following the spiritual guidance I provide you by the Holy Spirit will help you to both gain and maintain a victorious lifestyle. Studying and reading my books will help you to get to know me better as an Author. Listening to the sermons I preach will help you get to know me better as a preacher. Participating in my classroom lectures will help you get to know me better as an Educator. The better you know me, the more you will understand that it is my fervent desire to draw you, the reader, closer to a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our instructional efforts have been widely accepted and incorporated in both religious and secular organizations. Most of the teachings in this book are offered through our Bible College, Baruch Leadership Training Academy, and in workshops which we facilitate around the world. A resource list of other exciting topics is provided at the back of this book. We offer degree and certificate programs on-campus at our North Miami and Goulds, Florida campuses and through our Correspondence Program. Chapter 1

    The Psychology of Humanness

And you will know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32)

    Learning Objectives:

    Each student will acquire:

    a. An ability to define the role and function of life growth techniques

    b. Insights into the art of being human

    c. Current information about trends in discipleship issues facing Christian Service Workers

    d. To establish a foundation for truth and sound doctrine

    e. Strategies for reproving and confronting sinful behavior

    f. Continuing Christian education disciplines

Life Growth Skills is one of the most sobering topics any human-being can ever experience. It is one that is rarely mentioned, taught as a life skill or discussed in churches. The emphasis in many denominations has been on messages of prosperity, prophecy, Leadership/membership and the role of Christian Service Workers.

We are all human-beings first who enter into a religious contract with God the Father. As a human-being, not a spiritual being like the angels, we live in a physical body and are expected to develop the principles of the faith through both spiritual and social migration. We are endowed with conventional wisdom, common sense and an innate ability to become dependent upon God for our total survival and guidance.

We are expected to make sense out of the real world around us first then balance it with spiritual knowledge of our Creator. Too often I see confused Christians who put the cart before the horse and fail at spirituality. They place too much concentration on living holy, serving God, church affairs, evangelism and pleasing their leaders rather than getting to know themselves first.

It is irrational to learn how to be a spiritual being first without having become acquainted with knowing yourself as a human-being. There must be solid integration of self-knowledge with spiritual knowledge which over-all shall produce a sound understanding and stable behavior. Since we are made in the image and likeness of God, we are to seek to know Him as we seek to know ourselves. Simply becoming acquainted with biblical promises and principles are not sufficient.

    Defining Humanness

    What is humanness?

Humanness is the art of being yourself and learning all of the special qualities, characteristics, attributes and core values which define you as a human-being. What makes you tick as a human being? Through self-discovery, you can identify true self-worth and become cognizant of your role as a transient being. As a Christian, it is permissible to develop a keener awareness the theological bond between you, God, the church and society, and how you should acquire adaptation skills to help you thrive both spiritually and physically.

What is your role in discipleship?

Your role in the discipleship process is to be nurtured, trained and developed both spiritually and in a physical environment. By divine-design, God Himself established a human module to teaching coping, problem-solving and productivity skills through the placement of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Although that goal was not attained, Adam and Eve failed to thrive and eventually did not survive spiritually. The bible declares that, they were naked, covered themselves with leaves and hid from the Lord (Gen. 3:7-11)

Your role in discipleship is to follow instructions from God and your leaders, adapt to godly teachings and standards for Christian living, and perform the tasks that were delegated to you through the word of God in obedience, loyalty, commitment and faithfulness. Despite your personal struggles in the flesh, suffering and negative emotional barriers, you are required to serve the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul.

There seems to be a struggle on the part of a believer in serving the Lord whole-heartedly, training the mind to acknowledge God consistently and converting the soul to obey God incessantly. The lips confess godliness and Christ-likeness but carnal attitudes influence fleshly behavior a majority of times throughout the life span of the average Christian.

    What is truth?

(For more details, see the Book: Healing Streams of Grace by Julieann Pinder, p11)

Truth is actual, legitimate, real, proven statement that is widely accepted and documented. It is a valid source of information and evidence from God’s word. All truth comes from God. God is the epitome of truth. It is the transparent view of the condition of the heart from beginning to end with the penetration of the everlasting gospel and the manifestation of proven results through salvation in a restored life.

The truth is that most believers never invested sufficient time to learn self-discipline and live them out through spiritual disciplines one day at a time. They fail, become confused and beat themselves up out of guilt. The bible is a tool which is filled with many other learning tools to help shape, make and mould our lives. To overcome sin and evil, it takes quality time in fellowship with God, a commitment to understand the scriptures daily and willingness to yield to the Holy Spirit for proper guidance each day

The truth is that overcoming sin and evil is manageable. Living a sin free life is attainable according to everything that the apostle Paul offered as guidelines for believers in the Book of Romans. Living a victorious life in Christ Jesus is possible to him who believe, trust and obey. Despite human frailties and struggles in the flesh, every believer can enter the discipleship process and find answers, healthy resolutions and guidance.

People all over the world are looking for spiritual help, truth, purpose, self-identity, sense of belonging and ways to accomplish goals especially when life does not make sense. The study of human existence, performance and adaptations from a secular perspective does not provide truth even as a parallel between God and humans.

Below are some proven approaches to help prodigals find their way back home and reinforce the God-kind of faith which increases in the knowledge of Jesus Christ:

    • Making sense out of life

    • Disaffection with God

    • Life and
