My name is Darryl Woods. I am the founder of Start Smart Life. I was born and raised in inner-city Detroit, MI. I was raised by my mother, a single parent, Deanna Thomas. My father has been imprisoned since I was one year old. Why do I say this? Because based on statistics, my chances of going to prison were much higher than my chances of graduating from college, yet alone working for a Fortune 500 company, winning many sales awards, and now owning two businesses. What made the difference for me, and what I feel makes the difference for any person who escapes statistics and averages, is the realization and pursuit of one’s dreams. As a youngster I witnessed some of the greatest lows of human existence: up-close gun encounters, illegal drug activity, fights, prostitution, illegal gambling and everything else imaginable. Yet through all of this, I maintained my dream of being and becoming more. This dream led me to be featured in several local newspapers and media outlets, to be accepted into Michigan State University and earn close to $40,000 in scholarship money. While I’d like to say that this was of my own doing, I know for sure it was also a mixture of my parents, mentors and teachers—both in school and outside of school—who inspired me to aim for more.College is where my dreams really began to take shape and also where I met and married my dream wife, Jameika Woods, my lifetime Dream Partner. While in college, with the help of our awesome mentors, my wife and I realized something amazing: Every dream that we can imagine and believe is within our reach. With this realization, we knew that in order to live out the big dreams that we had, we would need to become more. While full-time students and full-time employees, Jameika and I managed to invest upward of $15,000 into ourselves on business, personal development and leadership training. Once we discovered our dreams, we reached to be better and become more. We also began to take college and life a lot more seriously. We created Start Smart Life with one great mission in mind: to inform, inspire and empower young adults to live their dreams. Just as all of the trainings, mentors and teachers were a voice of inspiration for me to chase my dreams, this book will serve as the same. You can rest assured that this book is grounded in world-class, proven, effective and engaging content that will empower you to live your dreams now.The world needs people who will dream and do! Without dreamers and doers, you can be assured that all of the great problems of the world will not be solved. Groom yourself into a dreamer and watch how things change for you and for the world!

Dedication
This book is dedicated to my mom and dad, without whom I would not have escaped the rough streets of inner-city Detroit to accomplish my first dream of attending college.
To the organizations who supported me through college: CAYF, Real Life 101 Scholarship Fund, and others.
To my wife, who both causes and motivates me to dream a bigger dream day after day, with her beauty, presence and support.
To my mentors Melanie Bergeron, Chair of Two Men and a Truck; Vanessa Stafford, Director of Mentor Relations at Real Life 101; Dr. Carl Taylor, professor at Michigan State University; and others—both during college and to this day—who give unwavering support and wisdom on my dream journey.
To my success coaches, mentors, and life support Drs. James and Stacia Pierce, who introduced me to a whole new world of success, possibilities, and my true potential.
Last but definitely not least, to the seminars, speakers, countless books and people who lived their dreams as an example to me and to the world.
Introduction
Welcome to the journey of your dreams: The journey of becoming an extraordinary dreamer. There is more inside of us than we can possibly understand; all of which is waiting to escape through our dreams. Untapped potential, growth, creativity, wisdom and life itself is waiting for us to show up and chase our dreams. There is so much more to life then we've been led to believe. Yet, this so much more
will never come out until we pursue our dreams. More than ever, the world needs people who will chase their dreams. To be more specific, the world needs you!
This book is a book of dreams. You will learn what it means to dream and pursue those dreams like never before. You will learn secrets to bringing your dream to pass, as well as secrets to creating and living your dream on a daily basis. More than anything, this book is a starting point to living a life of development and growth.
Identifying and wholeheartedly pursuing your dreams is the best personal development plan you could ever have. Pursuing your dreams will always cause for more growth, learning, skills and abilities. This becoming
in the journey is the ultimate aim, because ultimately,
Success is something you attract by the person you become.
-Jim Rohn
If you want to be happy, fulfilled, satisfied and full of joy, the greatest thing you can do is chase your dreams. Your dreams will bring you life and ultimately bring life to the world.
A Life Not Worth Living
"There was a very cautious man
Who never laughed or played
He never risked, he never tried,
He never sang or prayed.
And when he one day passed away,
His insurance was denied,
For since he never really lived,
They claimed he never really died."
-Author unknown
What a tragedy it is to go through life to never realize or pursue your dreams; to live life overcautiously. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, Many people die by age twenty-five and aren't buried until age seventy-five.
I'm sure, like many, the cautious man once had big dreams and thought he'd conquer the world. Over time, his dream was eventually diminished, through years and years of settling for less. The cautious man lost his dreams; therefore he never truly lived.
There is a word that has been created for the cautious man: That word is thief. Living life as the cautious man is the ultimate theft. You steal from the world, you steal from humanity and you steal from yourself. I know that this may be strong language, but you must know that your dream is much bigger than you. You are needed in this world, your ideas are needed in this world and the realization of your dreams is needed in this world. This is
