Tametra Jackson
Tametra Jackson has been an avid reader since childhood. Books opened up the world to her and helped her escape a troubled childhood. They may have even saved her life as they gave her hope that there was a better world out there. She began writing poetry as a way to understand her personal journey through the sadness and darkness that was filling up her life. The early loss of her mother, her only parent, was a pivotal event that caused her to doubt everything around her even her reason for living. The love of her children and her faith in God gave Tametra the strength to keep living and she became determined to lay the ugliness of her past to rest. At the end of every poem Tametra says,’’ The end is the beginning of a new journey, and at the end of the journey is a new found faith.” There are many paths that we can take in our lives and lessons to be learned from each path we choose; her poetry is an attempt to understand her past and share the life lessons she has learned as she continues her journey through life. Tametra Jackson was called Houston, Texas her lifelong home and it is where she lives today and raises her family. After attending college, she became a Certified Nurse Assistant and began taking care of the sick and elderly. She realizes that this type of work is “her calling” and this is how she can make a difference in the lives of others. Writing is something that anyone can do…. everyone has a story. Tametra hopes that her story will help others find their way through the darkness that can so easily overcome us as we experience hardships and loss.
