Introduction
It all started at the age of twenty-two. It was the worst and best year of my life. I thought I was living the dream. I had bought my first house. I was married with a four-year-old son, owned a boat, two cars, a motorcycle, and my own business. I soon found out all that was going to change.
One afternoon, my wife came home, caught me using drugs, and said she was leaving. She packed her things and left. Later she told me that all she wanted was for me to stop and come after her. Guess what—that is not what I did. The minute she walked out that door, I left to go to the bar.
The next six months of my life were a living hell. I destroyed my marriage, business, and life with adultery, heavy drinking, and drugs.
One night, I was at a bar looking for a fight. I found what I was looking for. I got into a really bad fight and hurt a man. The police and ambulance were called. He was knocked out and foaming at the mouth. I knew I had gone too far this time. The police officer had me in handcuffs and waited by his car to see what was going to happen. The police officer who watched me was about six foot four and 295 pounds. I was not going anywhere. I knew the only place I was going was jail. The injured man was knocked out and it was possible that he might not wake up.
As I stood there, looking up at the sky, I heard a voice say, Call on me!
It was just a whisper in my ear. Call on me!
I cried out, Okay, God, if you are real, get me out of this!
At that very moment, the injured man rose up like a mummy, got out of the ambulance, wiped himself off, and told the police that he did not want to press charges.
I did not learn my lesson that night. I just heard a weird voice in my head that said, Call on me!
That night, I believed there was a God. I just was so messed up at the time that I was not ready for a change.
A month later, my buddy and I were circling the bars again. We had already shut one down and were heading to the next. The blue and red lights hit my rearview mirror.
We got pulled over right in front of the bar we were going to. I was so scared! We had been snorting cocaine all night off of my vehicle console. I had cocaine all over my shirt and in my truck. I panicked and knocked all of the cocaine onto the floor. The officer walked up to the door and asked me for my license. I already had it out, because I was breaking lines of cocaine with it.
When I gave him my license, the light from his patrol car shined on the license. I could see the residue of the cocaine on the license. I just knew I was going to jail. As the police officer walked back to his car, I knew it was all over for me.
I heard a voice say, Call on me!
I said, Okay, God, if you are real, get me out of this.
As soon as I said that a man walked out of the bar. He talked to the officer and told him we were good guys. This was very far from the truth. The officer let
