I moved to Brownsville, Texas after I graduated from college and was a basketball coach and physical education teacher at St. Joseph Academy. I was also the restaurant and bar manager at the Brownsville International Airport, along with my mother, Georgana Drake. In 1976 the company transfered us to Corpus Christi where we managed the Corpus Christi International Airport Restaurant and Bar. I got married and had two sons, Oscar Henry in 1977 and George Jay in 1980. Th e company lost the contract in 1985 and I worked many diff erent jobs until 2001 when I got hired at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station from October 2001 until September 2010 when the company contract ended. I now work at the La Palmera Mall. I joined Sts Cyril & Methodius Church in 1997 after attending since 1975. I was a Baptist before I joined and was searching for a church to call home. I attended many other churches, but was always drawn back to Sts Cyril & Methodius. I am currently a Eucharistic Minister and am blessed to be a part of this wonderful parish. I started writing poetry on a regular basis in 2004 while attending Adoration hour after I got off work from the base. I never thought it would to lead a wonderful experience such as this. I hope one day to start writing again share more words of inspiration to others.

From the Heart Book 2 - Marianne Taylor Castillo
A Broken Heart
They wondered where she was that day
For they never saw her around,
But all were saddened and dismayed
When they discovered what was found.
Some say she died of loneliness,
Others say she took her life,
Some say she had just too many problems
And couldn’t face the strife.
But the rumors spread and the stories told,
Though none were true right from the start,
For I was there the day she died,
T’was from a broken heart.
Marianne
A New Day
The sun rose o’er the horizon
As the moon sat down to rest
And a new day now has just begun,
To put my faith to test.
But I know I needn’t worry
For, through all trials great and small,
I know I’ll be victorious,
I’ll stand both firm and tall.
But, if sometime I should stumble
Or get lost along the way,
I only have to bow my head
And upon my knees I’ll pray.
For I know He’ll hear my every word
I will not be denied,
‘Cause I was forgiven so long ago
When upon the cross He died.
So bring on forth the new day,
I look forward to what it will bring,
For my faith will remain undaunted
As to the Master’s hand I cling.

All I Want for Christmas
All I want for Christmas Lord
I have within my view.
The morning sun, the evening rain,
And most important You.
Smiles on children’s’ faces
Or a stranger passing by,
The gentle breeze that comes with dawn
And stars that fill the sky.
Fields of green and golden ponds,
The sound of whippoorwills,
And the sun as it sets slowly
Beyond the distant hills.
Family gathered ’round the table
Heads bowed in humble prayer,
Thankful for the many gifts
That they’re about to share.
Yes, all I want for Christmas Lord
I have within my view.
The morning sun, the evening rain,
And most important, You.

At The Door
I knocked upon you door O’ Lord
But it wasn’t meant to be,
For the ones who saw me standing there
Could not see You in me.
They merrily went about their ways
As at the door I stood,
The occasion called for so much more
Than I ever thought it would.
The hostess said I could not enter
Being dressed the way I was,
For it was such a special day
And me, I had my flaws.
So, being of simple means I am
Excused my presence there,
For the guest that you invited
Had not the clothes to wear.
But I hold it not against them Lord,
For in my heart I know,
It’s just another step in life
For my faith in You to grow.

The Back Row
I sat in the back, the very last pew
Among the congregation
And as I listened to His word,
I saw such degradation.
