Background of Humans
from the Perspective of Religion
Were there human beings on Earth before Adam? Leading progressive creationist Hugh Ross teaches something similar when he says that bipedal and tool-using large-brined primates roamed Earth for hundreds of thousands (perhaps a million) of years. Human fossils are found dated
earlier than Adam’s genealogies could possibly allow.
Earth, with its entire natural growth process including living creature animals, was in existence when humans were still in heaven. Humans, which I intend to mean souls as opposed to bodies, were sent down to Earth; and the souls might have possessed the body of a man or manlike animal; let us call it man-animal. It was God’s plan that one day he would send a newly created soul to Earth. The combination of a man’s body and a soul creates a human
in Earth. The Qur’an says, It is He who hath produces you…
(6:98). Notice the difference here between creation
and produce.
In explanation, A. Yusuf Ali stated that the Arabic word Anshaaa is a process of creation, as a body has been created from earth or clay and a soul was given to that body to complete the creation of human.
According to Plato, This world is indeed a living being endowed with a soul and intelligence…
The word soul
is, according to several systems of thought, the connection between all living things on the planet to the world in much the same way that the soul is connected to the human body.
I believe a pre-Adamic stock of man did exist; otherwise, how could humans have multiplied to the numbers that we see today? The children of Adam and Eve surely did not marry their brothers and sisters. However, without human conscience, pre-Adamic stock must have been very different from human with souls. They had no spirit and no conscience. With the gradual integration of post-Adam stock with pre-Adam stock, spirit and soul are passed on to a new generation of mixed-Adam stock. This is where we are today.
If this theory is correct, then religion can be incorporated with Darwin’s theory of evolution, although it is not that simple, and it requires a whole lot of discussion. That is why we might have within us element of animalism and the element of humanity.
Soul does not pass from parent to child, but animalism passes from parent to child.
God created the human body with clay and with a plan to implant a soul into it and complete the process of creating humans. From the Qur’an, we can infer that God built the universe and the light long before God created humans when God ordered angels and jinn to bow down in front of mankind. Angels asked, Why create humans when we are all here to serve you, and these will create mischief and kill each other on the earth?
Iblish (devil) said, You created human with clay, and I am made of fire. I am better than humans.
From these statements from the Qur’an, it is possible to assume that the Earth was already in existence when Allah created
