About this ebook
seasons of life. Living explores the simple beauty of nature, a childs rapturous
delight in rain showers and the beginning of summer; the tragic plight of
the homeless, forgotten souls, and our struggles to overcome obstacles and
finally have the courage to stand in our own personal power. Loving guides
us through deep wells of emotion; the seductive lure of deception, heartbreaking
moments of love lost, and glorious heights of passion in love that
transcends all. The collections finale, Lore, delights the senses in poetic tales
of fantasy, myths, legends and fairies. Classical and traditional writing forms
impart a haunting, melodic quality that affirms the depth of feelings reflected
in the words, engaging us intimately in the sheer beauty of poetry.

Poems of Living, Loving & Lore - J C Edwards
Hunger of My Soul
My quill, dove’s wing in graceful flight
Sweet ivory angel, an empty scroll—
The muse awaits with open arms
Embraces glory in the written word
Letters from heaven drift on breeze
Await their turn to illuminate page
Each one to its purpose— with a
Story to tell; divine mission to fill
They grace my page with words that sing
Poetic, celestial arias—
Scribe lines of rhyme in choral verse
Expression uplifted by gracious gift
Frolic with fronds on sun-swept lea
Pairings pirouette as they whirl ‘mid trees
A waltz of words— ethereal
Sow Shakespearean gardens in my mind
Tender blossoms that quench the thirst
Words etched by love that nurture eager heart
Feather and seraph— join to pray
In poem, to feed the hunger of my Soul.
Sonnet II: On A Quote
I never sought to chase the rainbow’s gold
For shy was I, to think would e’er be mine
My voice, more used to trembling than to bold
Content to sit in shadows— not to shine.
Within my songbird’s beating breast is flight
That hesitates in safety of the bough
To dare take wing and fly towards the light
Lest tumbles to the ground befall me now.
I know not what awaits— my destiny
Is fated by my thoughts for evermore
Yet must, if opportune, fly to be free—
Pay heed when chance comes knocking at my door;
Not held by fears, for naught is all as seems
With inhibitions shook— pursue my dreams!
* Shakespearean Sonnet *
Forsake inhibitions – Pursue thy dreams
Gratitude in Flower
While I have died
A thousand deaths
Have drawn my fill
Of labored breaths
I’ve watched the stars
Pierce evening sky
As twinkling lights
Took pause to sigh
When winter’s chill
Stripped bare my bones
And robbed my voice
Of sweet dulcet tones
My arms once straight
With ice were bowed
At my innermost core
The life force slowed
Erebus must at last depart
As Flora begins her reign
Cycle follows sequence
This, nature does ordain
Bitter reverts to sweet
As gray turns into green
In cerulean skies above
Clouds parade pristine
While sap again flows free
In throbbing ivied veins
Seeds give form to life
In warm, sustaining rains
The gently nurtured buds
Of love’s abundant bower
With sun’s exalted grace
I give gratitude in flower
Grandma
Grandma, are you in there?
The thoughts that linger
Behind misty blue eyes
Are they as shadowed
As today’s
