Air and Ground Poems - Elizabeth Ann Bowen
Garden (Dove)
Seeds planted in an affectionately tended nest,
She keeps them warm and secure.
Dissuades undesirable company,
Tolerantly awaiting the anticipated influx.
Departs briefly,
Outings never over extensive.
Time flutters by,
Moment shortly to come.
It finally succumbs;
Life finds its way through.
At ease, she sings.
Duty fulfilled
She gladly receives her brood.
Potential
Blank pages are as wasted as a mind hiding in darkness,
so many mysteries, adventures, friendships
waiting to be uncovered.
The author and pen the empty space needs to make it whole.
A mind cowering in darkness is as wasted as blank pages waiting to be taught;
so much potential, a vast space anticipating the color meant to fill it up.
The teacher and books the void needs to make it whole.
Yet a mind, if filled, is of great worth,
achieving impossible goals.
Power harnessed correctly, the mind now filled may fill another.
And blank pages, if embraced, may change a nation.
Before lacking life, left to waste away
now precious and treasured,
will live forever in our hearts.
The mind, the pages, may be as one:
The pages without words,
the mind without knowledge,
Have no place in the world.
Both have great potential, both could be very strong,
yet ultimately, together they have tremendous power over all.
