Beating Hearts and Butterflies: Poetry of Wounds, Wishes and Wisdom
()
About this ebook
Beating Hearts and Butterflies is a book of poetry with purpose: inspirational, dreamy, empowering, spiritually healing and transformative.
Beating Hearts and Butterflies contains 122 story-telling, inspiring and relatable poems, verses and reflections on love, loss, failure, healing, embracing darkness and your authentic spark, transformation, fate, destiny, emotional and heart intelligence, and the beauty of wishes and dreams that keep our hopes flying high.
"Chrysalis" is derived from the Greek word for Gold…"khrysos". It is only by combing through the darkness and inner grief, the chrysalis of our own soul that we emerge with greater spiritual riches. This poetry takes you on a poetic, healing carpet ride back to the centre of your heart and the courage of your soul to help you spin grief, worries, and life experiences into something golden, lighting up your heart… because every experience is valuable, everything has meaning. Tough times do not, and should not steer us away from our centre- if we learn through love then they lead us directly toward it.

Beating Hearts and Butterflies - Christine Evangelou
Dying for Life
I'm dying for life
In a world without breath
... I'm aching to live
Through this daily death
Trapped in confusion
Heart impaled on railings of sorrow
Still looking for ways out
So I can breathe life into tomorrow
I yearn to sing
A song of sweet hope
Erase the grief
That stings sadness to my soul
I'm dying to live
On wings that serve to fly
High above the sun rays
To my moon on the other side
A home where light and dark are lovers
Their melodies, a chorus that I belong
On this earthly plane
A realm of 3D
As my heart wrestles with its demons
On this razor-sharp sea
Fly me high, raise me up
Rhyme a rhapsody to angels
As God's cradle me in their arms
Soothe my soul with lullabies of peace
In a world that makes me scream
I want to live
... Not just breathe to exist
They feel my thunder
The floating fire through my spine
As I crave to serve
And shine this love of mine
I Swear
I swore to the stars that I'd let you go
Yet in my heart, embedded, is the shape of you
Wrapped in red ribbons in the shallows of molten gold
Dancing through the empty space
Like a butterfly...echoing through my bones
I’m wishing on rainbows by a sun-soaked stream
Can you hear me?
I'm calling your name through these broken dreams
Embellished and beautified
A craft of my mind
On this iron pedestal of love
As an Eagle... high you rise
A Polaroid captured of days gone by
These flashes of us that burn in my midnight sky
And all that we were, in all that we lost
I promised the stars...
Scribed pages of sorrow
To angels waking
Through the water in my veins
Begging for mercy from these memories
I lock with ghostly steel-like chains
Yet I swear, I vow...
One day I'll pass you by
My beloved,
This whole- hearted shape of you
Will find a resting place in the skies
Not too far to see,
Though not so close to hold
The remnants of us...
Ripples frozen in time
Now too old to stay dipped
In loves threads of gold
Stardust and Soul
Amidst the streams of my silent tears
Roses, forsaken, bloom through moonlight and fears
Those petals of red
These secrets in my head
Are the gems I behold
Laced with colours of honey-gold
The rivers of pain too bleak for a stranger’s eyes
But glisten through mine as I seek my reprise
Among the wounds my beloved scored
Are seeds of hope
Of a love I restored
My throbbing arms from gripping so tight
And yet all that was needed
Was to surrender the fight
Caught up in the darkness, storms of light broke me free
Picking up the pieces that others let be
My heart, a beauty unseen by those
...The ones that strangled me with silence
As they drip-fed their woes
Fires through the skies of stardust and soul
Lights up the night
Trails to distant stars
And all those that blaze
As they heal their scars
So take me low, and I may learn how to fly
With stardust and soul
...A burning glitter through my eyes
One Day
One day, you will heal
One day, you will be grateful for the deepest cuts of pain
One day, you will glance at yourself
And see a stronger person through your reflection
One day, you will kiss away your hurt... gently, and with grace
Until then, use it all to propel you forward
Like a white-hot pyre through your star-spangled eyes
A fire to regenerate every shadowy cell
And open your heart to every experience
Knowing that one day
You will search your heart
And understand that love is the only thing to ever hold onto
Higher Love
Fear, manipulation, dependency...
And decimation of any part of who you are
Is not based on a foundation of love
Believe in a higher love
One that sleeps and wakes on a bed of respect
One that sings through a harmony of hope
A higher love
Born from recalling long-lost sweethearts of your soul
Ancient hearts that feel like yours
And love like yours
Inner Garden
For a beautiful flower to bloom,
For the splendour of a tree to reach great height
It needs to be planted well
And patiently nurtured
Nourished with attention and love
With stalks that rise toward the sun
Untouched by judgement, urgency, and conflict
Sparking petals that are coloured with the brushes of wisdom and faith
As the fragile beings that we are at first breath
We may not have all been planted in the best surroundings to flourish
And stretch confidently into life
But there comes a point when we take charge of nurturing
