About me
Preface
I was born in a farming community near Melfort Saskatchewan. People here lived their entire lives beside the same neighbours.
Consequently, they were very careful in their relationships, for if you made an enemy of your neighbor, he was going to be a thorn in your side for the rest of your life. You guarded your beliefs carefully. You never, ever talked religion or politics.
Because of this, I grew up never really knowing the beliefs of my parents or neighbours, some of whom I admired greatly. I felt cheated and swore that I would not do that to my kids. Thus began my writing. To my surprise, in trying to condense my beliefs to their essence, I discovered I liked writing poetry. I apologize for that, and should also warn you. This is not a children’s book. Nevertheless, here I am…
Alzheimer’s
Forty seven years together.
Four girls she bore him.
But now there were times
When she could not see their faces.
Frightening times when she did not know
the man sleeping beside her.
But the worst days were the clear ones,
when she saw what was happening.
One day he came into the kitchen
To find her standing there crying.
He stood beside her
Listening to his heart break,
Until he too was crying.
Two old people hanging on to each other,
As they slowly died.
Loving
Don’t love them because,
you’ve known them for a longtime.
Don’t love them because,
you need them.
Don’t love them because,
you’re horny.
Don’t love them because,
you made them.
Don’t love them because,
they made you.
Don’t love them because,
they love you.
Love them because,
you feel good when they are happy.
Love them because,
you would have good things happen to them,
even if you hate them.
Love them because,
you choose to.
Love them because,
you do.
The End
I finally made it to the edge of the
universe.
I looked and looked, until I learned
I was blind.
So I screamed and hollered, until I
learned
I was deaf.
So I stood there, weeping bitterly,
until
