    About Elder Raymond L. Paschal

    SPIRITUALLY MINDED

The theme of this book comes from Romans 8:6.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

What does it really mean to be spiritually minded? How can being spiritually minded lead to life and peace?

I was flipping the channels on the TV and I came across someone explaining the difference between a Christian and a Bible-believing Christian. I didn’t know there were two kinds of Christians. If there were two kinds of Christians being spiritually minded would have to be the Bible-believing Christian. There is an awful story in the Bible (Judges 19-21) that shows men don’t need to do what is right in their own eyes. I will not go into that story in this book, but maybe you can read it sometime. I don’t read and study the Bible just to read and study it. God did not give us the Bible for entertainment. There are principles in the Bible that we need to live by to be spiritually minded.

The best way I can describe it is by looking at two of Israel’s kings.

David was spiritually minded but Saul was carnally minded. David cared for the things of God but Saul cared for the things of the world.

Saul was trying to kill David. He was afraid of him because God was with him (1 Samuel 18:11-12). David had two chances to kill Saul (1 Samuel 24:6 and 26:9) but would not because Saul was God’s appointed king. Saul knew that it was God’s plan for David to be king but he didn’t care; it was his way or the highway. Saul even ordered for the priests of the Lord to be killed (1 Samuel 22:17-18). When Saul was in trouble he consulted a (1 Samuel 22:17-18).This God did not allow. When David was in trouble he consulted God (1 Samuel 30: 6).

We see that David was spiritually minded because his life was based on what God said. Even when David sinned, he repented and came back to God (2 Samuel 12:13). That is something spiritually minded people do. When Saul sinned he made excuses (1 Samuel 15:24). I really believe David had more peace than Saul because he knew that he was doing things God’s way. I really believe Saul was worried about what God was doing in the life of David, so he tried to stop it. Spiritually minded people know you can’t win against God. We also know God has our best interest at heart so he will give us life and peace. It is better to do things God’s way and be spiritually minded.
