    Introduction

I know you may think that the first draft of the hit tune, At Last, recorded by Etta James in the 1960’s, was written by two writers in 1941, but I have news for you. It wasn’t.

The first draft was written by Adam. Adam’s first words when he saw Eve were, At last, ‘bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh.’ (Genesis 2:23). God had promised Adam earlier on in the text that he would bless him with a helper who was like him, for it was not good for him to be alone (Genesis 2:18). However, God put Adam to work first, after that He gave Adam authority. God then allowed Adam to name His creations, but there wasn’t one comparable to Adam.

Then God created Eve, but He allowed Adam to name her. God created Eve from Adam’s ribs. Even though she was formed from Adam, he had no other say in her creation. In other words, he did not tell God what he wanted her to look like, what her educational background should be, or what family she would come from. Of all the creatures God created that day, He did allow Adam to recognize her.

Man’s job is to recognize woman. I know some men have their preferences, and some women do, too. But please understand that your preference could either be driving you away from God’s best for you, or it could be driving you to it! It depends on what the driving force is.

Some of our likes and wants have been molded and in some cases even influenced by the cares of this world. Our main concern should be God’s destiny and will for the world — His mission, His likes, His dislikes -- not ours alone. Understand that marriage is a ministry. Like Coretta Scott King said, she realized that not only was she married to a man, but to a mission. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21).

Apostle Paul says in the book of Timothy to remain like him and Jesus if you can, but if not, it is better to marry than to burn. The only problem with that is we have to practice self-control in all matters, and God himself gave us a commission to be fruitful and do the multiplication! Jesus’ commission was to save a dying world from our sins and to bring us salvation—not to get married and have kids! I guess Brother
