The Author
S tephen Renwick has played tennis since he was 7. He played at county level and trained with one of the top junior squads in the country run by David Sammel and Jim Edgar. Stephen began coaching in
1994, taught in the U.S. and ran summer tennis clinics for Camp America. He has since coached tennis in Dubai, France and the UK. He has worked with some of the top coaches in the world and taught many high ranking players including Alex Bogdanovic, Chris Llewellyn and other leading British players. Stephen has dedicated his life to tennis and he is particularly interested in the psychology of the game. His first book, ‘Tennis is Mental’ became a best selling instructional sports book. The inspiration behind this work was a book by Tony Robbins, Unlimited Power. This describes how to take control of your life and achieve success. In 2005 Stephen appeared with the book on the BBC Two programme Dragons Den (2nd series), where he tried to raise £50,000 to help promote and distribute it worldwide. Stephen has learned a lot from the Dragons grilling.
Many top tennis players believe the psychology of the game is crucial in reaching one’s potential. Stephen hopes you enjoy reading his book and that you learn some new mental skills that will enhance your tennis.
Foreword
T his book is for any player, regardless of ability, who is serious about how the mental side of tennis can help them win. Backhands, serves or whatever, important as they are, can be improved with coaching and drills. But learning to utilise and manage a positive mental attitude brings another dimension to your game. Stephen Renwick draws upon his thousands of hours work with players at all levels, from beginners to British Davis Cup star Alex Bogdanovic. His knowledge of psychology and in particular neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) will help you analyse your performance so that you can identify which aspects of your game to replace or modify. This will inspire a new focused confidence, a mental toughness and self- belief that will separate you from the rest.
Remember that tennis is a sport played on a court and a game played in the mind. Good reading and better playing.

Neuro Linguistic Programming
N LP is the study of human excellence and how to influence and communicate effectively with others. It was developed in the 1970s by a team of psychologists who were studying successful people in order to analyse human behaviour. The team included Richard Bandler (psychologist), John Grinder (Linguist) and Gregory Bateson (anthropologist). They studied styles of language, patterns in the brain and how words and actions combine to make certain programmes and patterns of behaviour.
NLP has now developed worldwide. It offers insights
