Dear Parents - Dr. Malick Kouyate
YOUR TEEN’S UNHEARD CRY
Dear parents,
Listen to my too loud but too often unheard cry
For in-depth social integration,
For in-depth self-discovery, for independence
For self-control, for self-navigation,
For a more meaningful and successful life
In a more meaningful and peaceful world.
Dear parents,
Read my eyes and listen to my heart,
Look for any of the so many signs
From any of my so many silent sighs,
Sense and make sense of the large gap
Between who I am and who I am meant to be
Between my learning and my true calling
Between what I have to do and what I am called to do.
Dear parents, teens’ unheard cry for true love,
For true meaning, for peace of mind, for true success
Is timeless and spaceless and boundless.
Teens’ unheard cry for a more meaningful life
In a more meaningful and peaceful world
Is universal and yet intimately personal.
Dear parents,
Listen to the ineffable melody of the music in me.
Deep in the subtlest strings of my innermost being,
There is a whole learning world, a learning world
Often misused and abused by the outside world.
Dear parents, deep down in me,
There is a priceless treasure that is in no other,
There is a lifelong most favorite love song
That has never been sung before,
There is a small and still powerful voice
Crying out loud to be heard all around.
Dear parents, to educate me for excellence is to help me:
Re-align my learning to my true calling,
Awaken the positive side of the sleeping giant in me,
Treasure the priceless treasure in me that is in no other,
Sing out loud my lifelong most favorite love song,
Step outside my limited and limiting self
To be a blessing to someone else, to everyone else,
Starting by the very innocent child in me.
On My Own Words
My Smoothest Road
Love, true love, is my smoothest road
To holistic healing,
To wholeness, to meaning,
To peace with my own self,
To peace with everyone else.
Love, true love, is my smoothest road
To the best there is still in all there has been,
To the best there is in all there is here and now,
To the best there will be in all there is about to be.
True love is my smoothest road
To the words of the unheard,
To the voice of the voiceless,
To the sight of the blind,
To the teaching of the teacher
To the preaching of the preacher
To the poem of the poet
To the wisdom of the wise
To the smile of the innocent child
To the stillness of the dawn
To the freshness of the dew
To the ineffable melody of the music all around me
To the mystery of life that does not mystify.
To educate me for excellence is to help me learn from the best there is:
* in me
* in everyone I meet
* in the world all around me.
When we are unaware of our subjectivity . . . our dreams, the needs of our heart, soul and spirit, we depart from the truth of life.
(Kierkegaard, theologian)
The darker the mask between me and the true me, the deeper the wound I inflict to anyone close to me including the innocent child in me.
EDUCATION

Is to help me:
See in me more than eye can see,
Share my shared values,
Adopt solid world views,
Follow consistent ways of life,
Love all those who love me,
Love all those who hate me,
Forgive all those who hurt me.
To educate me for excellence
Is to help me:
Strive for the knowledge and skills
Congruent to my innate talent,
Lean on, learn from, build upon
The magic of congruency
Between my learning and my calling,
Learn more actively
Learn more meaningfully
Learn more mindfully
Be a peaceful culture consumer
Be a mindful culture producer.
On My Own Words
A Child Is A Love Letter
A child is a lover letter
Written by a whole family
At the service
Of the whole community.
Every step I take,
Every move I make,
Every action I undertake,
I must do so
With my whole family
With my whole community
In my heart, in my mind,
In my soul, in my spirit . . .
To educate me for excellence is to help me be able to:
* strive for in-depth social integration
* enjoy my first deepest educational need for belonging
* accept, respect, enjoy, share and celebrate my cultural identity.
Whatever is social is individual and whatever is individual is social.
(Merleau Ponty, philosopher)
Education is the most powerful weapon . . . you can use to change the world . . . A good head and a good heart are always formidable combination.
(Nelson Mandela, politician)
EXCELLENCE
Excellence
In my education is:
An ever increasing,
A never ending
Striving
For oneness:
Oneness
With my deepest and highest self,
Oneness
With everyone’s deepest and highest self,
Oneness
With what I am called to know,
Oneness
With what I am called to do,
Oneness
With the larger than life in me,
Oneness
With the larger than life all around me.
On My Own Words
My Heart Purity
To educate me for excellence
Is to help me:
Lean on, learn from, build upon:
The positive side of the world inside
The positive side of the world outside
The positive side of everyday life.
The world is as it is,
The world is as I see it.
My heart purity is the lens through which I see:
The best there is in my internal learning world
The best there is in my external learning world
The best there is between my two learning worlds.
My lifelong longing for true love,
My lifelong longing for true meaning,
My lifelong longing for peace of mind,
My lifelong longing for true success,
My lifelong longing for true happiness
Will all be a mere elusive mirage
As long as my inner world is still:
Polluted by any meanness and madness,
Poisoned by any envy and jealousy,
Clouded by any inner emptiness and bitterness,
Grayed by any frustration and stress
Bed ridden by any soullessness and powerlessness.
To educate me for excellence is to help me be able to:
* lean on my heart purity
* learn from my heart purity
* build upon my heart purity.
The purer my heart purity, the more genuine my spirituality.
