Sandra Goodwin Clopine Drake, an ordained gospel minister, former pastor’s wife, and missionary to Africa, has served as a chaplain, director of Women’s Ministries on district and national levels, and founding director of a National Prayer Center. Drake has written numerous articles and has been a sought-after speaker for church/ retreat settings. Although retired, she continues to write and minister.

TRAVELING ON MY KNEES

Last night I took a journey

to a land far ‘cross the seas;

I didn’t go by boat or plane;

I traveled on my knees.

I saw so many people there

in deepest depths of sin,

And Jesus told me I should go,

that there were souls to win.

But I said, "Jesus, I can’t go

and work with such as these."

He answered quickly, "Yes, you can

by traveling on your knees."

He said, "You pray, I’ll meet the need;

you call, and I will hear.

Be concerned about lost souls,

of those both far and near."

And so I tried it; knelt in prayer,

gave up some hours of ease.

I felt the Lord right by my side

while traveling on my knees.

As I prayed on, I saw souls saved

and twisted bodies healed,

And saw God’s workers’ strength renewed

while laboring on the field.

I said, "Yes, Lord, I have a job,

my desire Thy will to please;

I can go and heed Thy call

by traveling on my knees.

A SAMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT

Father, I give my moments to You in the interest of others. Regardless of the inconvenience, help me to do my part to bring to You those whose names or faces Your Spirit brings to me.

I give You permission to tear down any walls I have built to protect myself from the world around me. Flood my heart with Your compassion and make me sensitive to those hurting and in need of Your salvation. Give me the ability to be a prayerful intercessor and to see as You see, being less critical and judgmental.

Lord, help me to be Your obedient disciple. At each moment, instill in me an urgency to be available to You that I might do my part in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Thank you for hearing this prayer as I experience the journey of a lifetime, employing my moments in praying for others. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged to keep your focus on the God you serve

and His power to prevail, rather than on

the interruptions you encounter and the trauma they create.

for those around you

who are in great need of God and of your compassionate care.

You involve yourself with trying to feel what they feel,

so the stings of your own circumstances lessen

as you begin to regain the control which you had lost.

Well, I’m telling you to open your eyes

and take a good look at what’s right in front of you.

These . . . fields are ripe. It’s harvest time"
