    Poems for Pastors for Sermons Volume One - Joseph De Lucia

    I KNOW TO LISTEN

    CAREFULLY

    I know to listen to the Lord carefully

    As He speaks to me;

    I know to listen to the Lord as I read His Word

    As I pray to Him, in my heart.

    I know to listen prayerfully,

    Not saying, The Lord said flippantly;

    I know to listen as I fellowship,

    Reading His Word with Christians each week with my family in

    the Lord.

    I know to listen to the Lord carefully

    As I hear from Him;

    I know to listen to the Lord as I pray for my friends,

    As I pray for my friends.

    I know to listen prayerfully,

    Not saying things I should not say;

    I know to listen as my spirit worships Him

    Lifting Him up in adoration.

    DO YOU HAVE AN

    UNDERSTANDING HEART?

    Do you have an understanding heart when people in this world

    are starving for food;

    Do you have a compassionate heart,

    will you ever feed the hungry?

    Will you pray to be compassionate?

    Do you have an understanding heart

    when you look at the stars through a telescope;

    Do you have a compassionate heart,

    when will you ever want to pray?

    Do you see yourself as a small person?

    Do you have an understanding heart

    when you see the world through a microscope;

    Do you have a compassionate heart,

    will you thank God for what He made?

    Do you see yourself as a big person?

    HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU

    PONDERED THE SPIRIT OF

    THE LORD?

    How often have you pondered

    The spirit of the Lord;

    Did you ever even wonder why He said,

    I am the way, the truth, the life.

    Do you wonder why He did the Fathers’ will.

    How often have you pondered

    The spirit of the Lord;

    Did you ever even wonder why He said,

    Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.

    Do you wonder why He said, "Come unto me, all ye that are

    heavy laden …"

    How often have you pondered

    The spirit of the Lord;

    Did you ever even listen to a person who loves the Lord?

    Maybe you can see Him in his life,

    if you look close enough.

    Will you ever wonder what it means

    to be a person who loves the Lord?

    THE MARRIAGE BONDS

    A man and a woman one day stood at the altar,

    Repeating the vows the preacher said;

    They were both blessed, and then

    the ceremony ended,

    Then the reception and the honeymoon followed.

    Many years passed, the vows were forgotten

    by the two who didn’t know their meaning;

    One day the spouse renewed the marriage vows,

    to be gently repeated them to her spouse

    She said how God made the marriage sacred,

    for them to begin again and forget each others’ wrong;

    The husband agreed to love his wife as Christ loved the church;

    The wife chose to submit her life

    To the one and only person she married.

    This loving couple had an ever-increasing
